  1. My first thought was is it a Harley Benton, but maybe it's more a hardly bent one.
  2. Bob Daisley is a fine bass player; the price is way out of my league, though.
  3. I've fancied a Guild one of those for a while, but it's a bit rich for me.
  4. What is a channel strip, BTW?
  5. Well; the concept of zero crossings is a bit simplistic anyway; you really need something like a spectrogram & FFT to analyse the frequencies in an audio signal (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectrogram).
  6. Cheers - I knew of his background. It's just I remember the brand coming to prominence in the mid-70s.
  7. I wasn't even aware that Ovation were around in the 60s.
  8. IEC? You wouldn't want to plug your ears into that !
  9. Though it's interesting in the conversation wider sense, an integrated isn't what I'm after; an overall volume is pretty much all the knobbage required. Yep - there are some compact ones; I just don't want to have to use a trolley to shift the stuff about. I do have and EBS pedal preamp, but my application for this is an Ampeg.
  10. The Demeter is a bit pricey. (I agree about the Darkglass - I know I'm supposed to like them, but they don't float my boat.) I'm not sure I "get" the Quilter; I might as well just plug into the effects return of my Markbass.
  11. Thanks @fretmeister @fleabag @three - they look worth checking out.

    SVP 11

Thanks for clarifying (my ignorance)! Their naming is confusing... Is it an SVT-IIP rather than an SVP-II, or is that another iteration/variation? Oh, and my SVP Pro has 5 valves.

    SVP 11

Hmmm - it doesn't say II (2) on it anywhere...
  14. I'm looking for a power amp, but I don't want a great big lump of a thing. I've run my Ampeg preamp into the effects return of a Markbass 250 and it sounded fine (for a bit more power I'll try it into my 500W Markbass next time I have a go). Are there any compact, lightweight, gig-worthy power amps available? (I suppose if I get to playing stadiums, I might want something a bit more hefty, but then again (a) that's unlikely and (b) it'd all be going via the PA anyway.)
  15. The EBS Microbass 3 is a darned fine piece of kit. My only criticism is that I'd prefer two equal channels rather than one normal and one distortion.

    What's a II ?
  17. I nearly bought a Roland (G-33 or G-88?) bass last week, but I decided to sleep on it and then it was gone. I've got a Bartolini multi-pole pickup and a Roland control panel to put in a Ric when I get around to doing the project. It'll feed into a Roland GM-70 MIDI converter. Of course, being a pitch to note converter, plus old tech, there will be some delay there. Plus, I've no idea what I'll do with it when I have it working! I expect I'll use my bass to trigger a Minitaur or Model D, but then I'll probably realise that I need a bass line too and my interest will wander elsewhere. In the meanwhile, I've got a Source Audio C4, which triggers pretty well.
  18. You'll need a different pot for a pan control; one where the mid position has both on full and then either side tapers one of the pickups away.
  19. 🙂 I'm sure you'll find it in yourself to be able to live with the disappointment.
  20. Evidently the ludicrously low price was deterring people from bidding.

    Ampeg SVP

Righty-oh; I plugged the SVP into the effects return of my Markbass Black Line 250 and it worked; I plugged in my black Ric and oh my, what a sound! Now I need another SVP so I can run the bass stereo.
  22. Well, I'm slighly in a parallel lane; after faffing around with modelling amps and valve pedals, I've bought one of these (and may get a 2nd, so I can run the bass in stereo). and am now looking for a power amp to go with it (/them).
  23. That’s a very fair price; anybody who hasn’t owned a Thunder needs to.
