Oh, and I played Greg Lake's 8-string bass a couple of times: once at Manchester uni and once in a bass shop in Romford.

On a more genuine bass thing, I recently found a tub of old bass strings, including some which Gordon Rowley (of Strife) gave me after a gig at Forest Town in Mansfield in the 70s.

I have Ritchie Blackmore's knob. (Off a Strat he smashed up on the Rainbow Rising tour.) I hear you say "that's not a bass claim!", so I'll just point out that there was a bass player in the band, which obviously means it qualifies.

The sellet of the item I bought said he was using the app and could't find the option.

Last week there was something up for £45 with best offer as an option. I offered £40, which was rejected. So, I offered £41, which was rejected. So, I offered £42 with a note - hey, you put up the best offer option! That was also rejected and the seller responded that they couldn't see how to disable best offer. I bought it for the £45!

Any particular style of neck?

I recently had Alegree repair three pickups.

I've had a couple of things off Ash and I'd have that JB if I had some spare cash! (Including a scruffy Shaftesbury bass project of a shape not too dissimilar to that, but only has 4 strings...)

They are/were an interesting brand; they were contracted by Fender to make Squier instruments. They then proceeded to produce their own brand, built from the Fender plans but with upgraded components! There was a bit of a kerfuffle and lawsuitness which ensued. The ones with the Fender headstocks are the ones to look for. Prices vary a lot and I've never tried one myself.

I have to say I quite liked it at the Bash. Thanks for bringing it and sharing! I don't know if you were around when some folks were talking about it perhaps needing to be louder and (I think it was me?) just said "Well buy two then!".

There was a thread where someone had received an original Ric 5-string to do some work and they shared pictures of it with some rather shonky customisations, along with some choice words; well, the chap in question was the one who did it and he got a bit offended. But, based on that, I would probably not have him work on a guitar of mine. (But I've just stepped away from TB anyway, so problem solved...)

What I especially liked about it was how unpretentious everybody was and folks were just going "play my guitar if you like".
