  1. I'm now inspired to try out my (non-existent) woodworking skills and make a new creation!
  2. I recently bought a beat-up Fender Precision MIM and it is a decent bass. I've also got one I made from parts, including a MIM neck, Badass bridge, a drop-D tuner and Fender USA pickups - it is really good. And then there's my Frankenstein P. I've no hankering for any more Precisions, because I'm happy with those (and I never intended to get any to start with!), but if I were I'd be looking at either: Sandberg; I had a go on a couple of theirs at the Brum show and they were rather good. The Geezer Butler pickups - he endorses Lakland (though I'm not struck on the look of their rounded bridges).
  3. Watch for the IAPs...
  4. Shame I'm about £3.5k short...
  5. Well, they are doing some tax breaks for small businesses, aimed at catering/ents... As far as the law goes, it's an emergency measure for the greater good, though it's sad that some decent folks get to lose out...
  6. If you're on FB, post it on the Rickenfakers forum. I've got a Retrovibe bass and also their bass pickups in the bass half of a doubleneck. I have to say I kindof pooped on David's parade when he said he was doing those LP basses as an example of putting Ric pickups on things and I posted my Rickenberger...
  7. Northern Guitar Show postponed, F1 postponed, footy postponed - shame for the folks relying on them or looking forward to them. My train in to work today, which is usually rammed with people standing had at least half of the seats empty.
  8. That is a thought - I'd expect exhibitors not to be using headphones...
  9. Nice of you to offer, but it’s about £50 in petrol for me. My first impression was that those tuners look like Squier.
  10. It has a super-slim neck.
  11. A Tanglewood is not worth north of £100.
  12. Apparently it's not a classic IV. (The above ad is a classic, though!)
  13. If I was quids-in, I'd have it (but I'm not...). This was the instrument which said the Japanese can think (way) outside the box!
  14. 20x what it's worth.
  15. They have a different neck size to P's & J's, as I recall.
  16. I sold a Squier Affinity Precision a couple of weeks ago for £60.
  17. The Ric ones are bought in anyway; I've seen other brands using them.
  18. There is an FB group...
  19. Good game of whack-a-mole!
  20. I think if you're going to copy the body shape then you might as well go with it for the headstock too (subject to trademarks...). If you're going to get more radical, then do a coherent style across the whole instrument. (IMHO, of course!)
  21. I've never played one (a Ric 5-string), or even seen one; I'm sure it'll happen some time. I do quite like added flexibility of a 5-string though, so it may just be a matter of time.
  22. Yes, I have to say that I think they look a bit "sterile" with a generic bridge. But some folks will be calling hallelujah!
  23. I’m thinking of the top 4 strings of a guitar with a capo on the 5th fret.
  24. I wonder if I’ll get one of those.
