  1. They're on AliExpress.
  2. It's amusing how they're claiming to have patented these!
  3. I have one of those conversion bridges in my parts box - haven't quite got 'round to fitting it to something yet... The price looks good, but wrong end of the country for me...
  4. I quite like the multi-room layout.
  5. Sure - I'm not doom-mongering or anything 🙂 - just deciding whether it will be worth my while! So far it's looking like lean pickings on the exhibitors front (I wonder if Warwick will take some parts - I need a just-a-nut for a 5-string). Artiste-wise, paul Gilbert is a good 'un and Becky Baldwin with her Ric would be cool. One thing I have to remember, assuming I go, is to take my ear-plugs; the previous one I went to was physically painful at times!
  6. Are folks being defeatist? The show is a month and a half away and it's not yet planned. Folks coming from afar need to organise their weekend and spend a chunk of dosh to go. So far there's not a "must see" item for me, but I'll probably go anyway. As far as events go, the Bass Bash and the Kempton Park guitar fairs in October are definites in my calendar.
  7. Ta - they're a bit pricey (being Aguilar, of course!).
  8. Thanks - were they passives?
  9. I bought a barebones Steinberger Spiriti 5-string a while back. I intended to make a Rickenberger out of it, by using some Rickenbacker bits from my parts box. Unfortunately, the pickups aren't wide enough for the 5 strings, so I'm having to shelve that idea and think about putting some other pickups in instead. I do have Status and Warwick ones, but they are bigger than the existing holes and my woodworking skills are not great, plus I don't have a router (or indeed a workshop!). Can anybody advise whether there are any drop-in replacement pickups which might fit the bass without requiring surgery? (I've also not given up on the Rickenberger, but I'll be needing a 4-string to base it on.)
  10. Well, I'm now working in London, so the train will be effectively free (as I've got a season ticket).
  11. Aye - maybe it grew back...?
  12. When it says "headless", erm, huh...?
  13. I was looking at it, but decided I just plain don't need another amp... (And of course it would have forced me to go on a quest looking for an Acoustic cab, which I DEFINITELY don't need!)
  14. I've found the perfect next project... https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/345680669650853/
  15. I bought an Ovation Applause one last weekend. I've learned a few chords for it.
  16. I've got a Thunder Mk 1 and it is a really good sounding bass; I bought it last year for £140.
  17. Funnily enough I was noodling around with Halo Of Flies yesterday.
  18. I had a dream last night that they'd booked Geddy.
  19. WTF are "two over lapping volume controls" ?
  20. Two wheels on my wagon...
  21. https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/bass/fender-modern-player-jazz-bass-520310
  22. I'm not sure how they'd work as a headless - the body is rather large.
  23. The purpose of the show is to attract visitors (ie. paying customers); me, I'm going to see what I'm up to on the day before I decide whether to go. It does for sure require a big effort on the part of the exhibitors, and nobody is downplaying that; however, if there's little or nothing of interest then the case for going is not made. There are people who are looking to plan ahead: book hotels, flights, plan weekends, so there needs to be stuff there for them. So far I've not seen a "must go" item on the list so far; the nearest is Paul Gilbert, but he's also got a gig upcoming nearby to me, which I could go to instead.
