  1. At £10k, I think I'll avoid them altogether!
  2. I just plain don't get these models of guitars, plus they're a nuisance on ebay searches!
  3. BTW, cheers for the VT Bass; I'd wanted/mused about getting one of these for quite a while...
  4. I have a J (2nd right), though I bought it already made. Unfortunately, the Frankenbass body is a cheapie and I may have knackered it trying to make it fit the neck (which has bolts instead of screws).

    Geddy Lee pedal

I have to say that when I tried one I set all of the controls to 12 o'clock and it was spot-on.

    Geddy Lee pedal

Just treat your friends to a bass player's equivalent of the holidays slideshow...
  7. I know - in retrospect, he could've taken the opportunity to adopt another first name too.... 🙂
  8. Aha! One of my projects is a Frankenstein bass with a Status neck...
  9. I would quite like that, but not at that price!
  10. Yep. It went straight in without needing surgery on the body. (I originally bought the pre-wired one, but it has an extra disc which is too larger.) I did find it a bit of a sod to solder, so I won't be putting up my internal wiring for any awards...
  11. Nah six-way! Hahahaha - should be on a cracker... (But seriously - yes.)
  12. Nice. I just couldn't live with the gap at the top frets. I also have a Schaller 3D bridge and may give that a try. However, I'd be having to fill in the existing holes, as the Retrovibe bridge has screws almost in the same spot, but off-centre.
  13. Yes - the knights cross (I think that's what it was called) is what I had in mind. Eddie Rickenbacker was Adolf Rickenbacker's cousin and the first one to Americanise his surname from Rickenbacher, to distance himself from the anti-German sentiment in WW I; Adolf then followed his lead a short time later.
  14. I put this selector switch on my Ric...
  15. Here's my Ric which is a bit different...
  16. Rickenstatus??? I've got a Rickenberger!
  17. Darn - the Hipshot bridge doesn't work, as the string spacing is wider. Also a Hipshot drop-D eXtender won't fit. I've also had a slight re-think and it's getting a pair of SD pickups. I did have the neck one on another project but I decided to use a Ric one on that.
  18. The postage alone is more than I'd pay for that.
  19. It looks like it's sunk into the floor.
  20. Cut out with pliers, more like... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Telecaster-pre-assembled-wiring-electronics-CTS-pots-inc-knobs-and-switch-tips/123995321184?hash=item1cdeb27360:g:6LwAAOSwzttd4-EF

    Geddy Lee pedal

So far the best bass pedal I've tried/used/owned is the Sansamp Bass Driver DI (BDDI). I debated getting a Bass Fly Rig, but I'd need to do a good comparison. Two things prompted me to consider it: 1. my chorus pedal seems to have stopped working, 2. I've been tidying up my pedalboard and that seemed to offer a neat solution. I have a VT Bass pedal and it's OK. I tried the YYZ and liked it, but it's pricey and I don't necessarily want to sound just like Geddy Lee.
  22. I've got a VT Bass and a BDDI; I reckon the VT Bass sounds like it's in the next room, whereas the BDDI makes it come alive!

    Bass octave pedal

I have an Aguilar Octamizer; the octave below has real character.
  24. Has anybody compared the Bass Fly Rig against a SansAmp Bass Driver DI pedal? I've been thinking about whether to swap to the Fly Rig, but if the SansAmp section isn't is as good as the standalone pedal, then the convenience and other features it offers just don't matter.
