1. Also Manchester's 'The Creamery' http://www.at-the-creamery.co.uk/custom-handwound-pickups-from-the-creamery/scatterwound-bass-pickups.html Cheers
2.
Henry Olsen was my favourite Primal Scream bass player, had a bit of class
Me too. He had a cool stage presence & very in the pocket playing.
3. Really digging this 1973 album a friend made me aware of by Lea Roberts. Phenomonal bass playing on this track. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSl5-Y8ROx0
4.
There's an old DeArmond Starfire bass on Ebay at the moment, BIN £400. I used to have one and bitterly regret selling it, it was a very special bass.
+1 Recently picked up a lovely red Starfire reissue off here. Love it, a cracking bass & surprisingly versatile.
5. My first gig was the Wombles at the Davenport in Stockport, I think 1979.... They were great.
6.
search in the "japcrap" thread- a couple of el maya's popped up in there. My guess £50-200 range
I'm no expert... but I've acquired & shifted several Maya basses over the years. Also had the El Maya guitar version of this bass, which was a very nice instrument, decent quality as were the other Mayas I had. However, it aint a Greco, Burny or Tokai etc... IMHO think Luke's above guess-timate is pretty bang-on, especially with regard to current market. If lucky you might get the top end (£250ish) on Ebay if you gave it a good listing & description, nice photos etc... but I wouldn't pay much more than that myself. Just my opinion I would personally keep it, if I liked it. It's a lovely bass
7. Here's my '84 Tokai Hard Puncher, not sure what model it is, maybe a PB40(?) Had it for about 15 years. In that time had many basses come & go, but this has always remained in my collection. It's generally my go-to bass & main one when I need a bass with roundwounds. Changed stock pickup for a Seymour Duncan SPB-1 'Vintage', added the tortoishell pickguard, recently fitted a John East P-Retro & strung with DR nickel Lo-Riders. Otherwise it's stock, though I've been thinking about replacing the tuners for a while. The neck is fast, not far off a jazz bass width & with a deep U profile - similar to a 70's P-Bass, really nice to play, comfortable. Cheers
8. Bought Gareth's Dearmond Starfire off him. Good coms, quick despatch & well packed. Recommended. Thanks Nick
9. Red Beans LP by Jimmy McGriff. The funkier side of the late great Bob Babbit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5vMX39GClM
10. Francis, Bought a Kappalite off me. Straightforward deal, no messing about & prompt payment - thanks. Recommended
11. Depends on the music, either a 2004 CIJ '62 Precision with flats or a '84 Tokai Hardpuncher with roundwounds both probably worth no more than £400. Used for any gigs - pubs, weddings, functions etc...
12.
LF or HO?
It's a 'HO', just the standard 3015, not LF - it's the good standalone full range 15" driver.. Cheers
13. That looks lovely. Shame you're not near to me.
14. I've got one of these, its a 300H model. Apparently quite popular with Britpop bands back in the day. Loud amp with a basic straightforward EQ a la Fender Bassman - a pair of decent preamp valves does this amp justice.
15. Hi Nemo, Can't help you with your enquiry, but could be a good idea posting it on Onlybass the French bass forum(?). I've always found it to be a Friendly forum....
16. My '83 Ibanez Roadstar RB920 desperately needed a refret..... so I decided on a defret! Dave at Waghorn's in Bristol did a great job of it. 17. Will bought my 'Loud Inc.' cab. A straightforward deal, no messing about & seamless - top man. Recommended. Cheers Nick
18.
He certainly disappeared...with deposits as well IIRC.
A kind of Delorean of bass cabs!
19.
a Bassworld legend surfaces!
Oh yes..... I seem to remember the guy who made these, or rather who didn't, faking his own death or something similiar?
20.
would you post?
Bit of a ball-ache finding the cardboard, packing etc....but guess I can do if absolutely necessary
