I have a question for you pedal builders - I'm about to order one of those BB's from pedal parts, it's my first kit. I do have a soldering iron and it's a 30W. Would I be better off with a 40W or 60W iron for more heat, or will the 30W do?
Your 30w should be OK for pedal building - I use a 25w myself. I use a 60w for soldering to guitar pots, earthing etc.
  2. For a filter try the Boomstick Bottomfeeder, pretty much a bass version clone of the Dod 440. It's a great little filter, very musical - easy to dial in a thick subby tone. Works well with fuzz too There's one for sale in the effects section at the moment, my old one. I ended up buying another one after selling mine, because I missed it so much!
  3.
Looks like a Roadworn neck on a normal body to me...something is odd!
I don't think that's a Roadworn neck. The decal is different to the one on mine & the tuners are not the same. Roadworn bodies are not string-through either. Wonder what it is?
It's not bad at all. I had to sub one of the trannies and use a 2222 as I'd run out of othrr NPNs but it gives a very vintage O/D sound. I'll give it a go through my amp a bit later on to see how it sounds through a cab...
I built this a while ago too, will have to dig it out, it was a nice overdrive...Experimented with different npn's, seem to recall BC108C & BC109 giving nice results (to my ears)

  6. SOLD - Mods please remove. 2 x Harma ECC83-STR 'Cryo' valves as new condition in original packaging. Cryogenic version of Harma's well regarded recreation of the fabled Telefunken ECC803S. These are lovely in Fender, Alembic etc.. preamp circuits More info here: https://www.watfordv...ail.asp?id=1423 £22 for the pair (plus £4 P&P), local collection OK, can also drop-off in Bristol. Please PM me if interested. Cheers
  7. Here's mine that I had for a while...sold it couple of years ago. Loved it, was a great player, with a big sound - pickup wasn't weedy either, measured something like 13k. Bridge dampener was cool, but the tuners were crap. Sold it as I felt it was a bit fragile for the gigs I was doing at the time & probably also needed the cash , though I do recall getting a decent price for it. Mine was a cracking bass, would probably get another (if cheap) if I didn't already have a Starfire & a Wilson SAB. 8. Ben bought my Fender CIJ '62 Reissue off me. A nice guy to deal with and a hassle free transaction - recommended. Cheers Nick
  9. Vox do a good mid-priced curly lead IMO. Had mine for a few years now, tons of gigs with no issues.
  10.
Hope you don't mind me asking, did the bass originally have the vintage reverse tuners with the long tuning posts? were the highway one types a direct replacement or were there extra screw holes needed? Many thanks.
The bass didn't originally have reverse tuners. The better more stable Highway One replacements didn't require any additional screw holes to be fitted either.
  11.
How does the neck compare to a USA Precision?
If you're talking current USA standard...from what I recall the '62 neck is a little wider, though less thick, and with a rounder fretboard profile & vintage thin frets.
  12.
Very, very nice. Are you up for a trade at all Nick?
Thanks, it is quite a special bass this one Really after cash TBH, and I'm pretty much sorted for everything I need...what were thinking trade wise?
  13.
That's nice, what is the nut width?
Thanks... it's a standard '62 width, just a shade under 1.75".

  15.
Great basses ...wish I still had my 4 string Shergold... it was even better when id replaced the standard 100 pots with 250ohm pots....
+1.... IMO upgrade to 250k pots is really needed on Shergolds. I've also rewired the pickup on mine from weedy anaemic sounding parallel wiring to series (in mono) as per P-Bass. It's an easy reversible mod but makes a massive difference - like night & day. Here's my 1980 beauty:
  16. *SOLD* - Mods Please Delete 2004 Fender CIJ '62 Reissue Precision for sale In a lovely shade of vintage orangey fiesta red - possibly a salmon pink(?) , Fender 4-ply tortoise shell pickguard, with spiral saddle 'vintage' correct bridge. Upgrades:

Seymour Duncan 'Vintage' SPB-1 pickup
CTS Pots & switchcraft jack socket
PIO tone cap
Fender bridge & pickup covers
Tuners upgraded to Fender USA 'Highway One' type.
Bass is in great condition, with no noticeable dinks. Only defect is a small chip in the lacquer down in recess of neck pocket, with is difficult to spot anyway. The neck is good, with no issues - finished in a cool vintage tint colour. It's a nice player, comfortable & not too chunky, basically a good '62 profile. No wear to the thin vintage style frets, would guess from their condition that this bass has always had flats on it. It's currently strung with nice thumpy 45-105 Status flats with a low to medium action, but can put a set of 45-105 Fender nickel rounds on if buyer prefers. Genuine reason for sale... I already have an old Tokai that I can't part with, which although just as good as this '62 RI (IMHO) I can't justify having two P-Basses at the moment, plus I need the money towards another purchase. So sorry no trades please ... This has the big P-Bass tone & classy looks at a bargain price. Whoever bags this bas in their Christmas stocking will be happy with it. Location is Bristol/Bath area, but happy to post anywhere in UK or Europe if needed. Please PM me if you have any questions or would like any more info. Thanks
  17. I live not far from Kingswood Richard. PM me... Cheers Edit. Apologies - I'm near the Kingswood in South Gloucestershire. Sorry! :-(
  18. Love it. Sort of reminds me of some of Bowie's 'Station to Station' with the brilliant George Murray on bass, which is fine by me

    Octave Pedal
hi Nick to be honest, they were parts I had been playing before with an OC-2, so I had tailored the lines to the tracking of the OC-2. Didn't have the time to sit down with the pedal and explore that much... but I think bettern than an OC-2. Held notes were not glitching nearly as quickly as with the BOSS.
Cool.... just ordered a PCB for a OC-7 from Madbean. I'm gonna build a clone, find out for myself! Cheers Nick
