1. Picked up an old GK 800RB yesterday from deepest south Wales, to provide some company for my 400RB Needs the transformer swapping out for a 240v toroidal and caps for most of the knobs, but it sounds wicked - a real beast of an amp this! Micro Compressors

If you can build or get someone to build one for you, I would suggest the John Hollis designed 'Flatline'.... a great little optical compressor. Can fit in to 1590A box no problem & Madbean (http://madbeanpedals...ects/index.html) do nice PCB wilth layout as the 'Afterlife' compressor http://www.ovnilab.c...ews/after.shtml
3. Surprised this is still hanging about.... Would have snatched this off you, if I didn't have an old Tokai already! Have a bump!

5. Reported on his facebook page & on his website. RIP Jack Bruce http://www.jackbruce.com/
6. Just finished the book. It's a great read, quite a tragicomedy really.
7.
a set or two of these thomann own brand ones might be worth looking at http://www.thomann.d...itar_medium.htm you'd need to order 48 sets to get free shipping though
I've had a set of these on a cheap Farida jazz copy for a month. I've got DRs & Sadowsky strings on my other basses...whilst not in the same league, these Harley Benton strings are actually pretty good for the money. They've not gone dull & thuddy yet, and feel alright especially for a fiver.
8. One with rounds & one with flats... '84 Tokai with an old 'model P', and 2009 'Roadworn' with a Seymour Duncan SPB-1
9. Sold my Starfire to Lars (Minski) Couldn't have hoped for a smoother transaction. Top guy - totally recommended Cheers Nick
10.
Just boxed up and texted a 'Timmy' clone done on veroboard using germanium diodes for the clippers, finished off my stash of mojo diodes, but it's worth it. No loss of low end at all - it's definitely a transparent OD.
Nice one Paul!
11. Paul Cochrane's 'Timmy' if you can find one.
12. Recently picked up a 70's style ash bodied, maple neck FJB-20 second hand...Really great bass, ridiculously good for the money I paid. As far as quality is concerned, not that far off the budget Laklands IMHO.
13. My 2009 Fender Roadworn...picked it up on ebay for silly money. Bought it initially to sell on for a profit, but despite the relic thing which I was originally not keen on, it's become a keeper. I'm tempted to get it refinished in daphne blue at some point in the future. Strung with an old set of Sadowsky flats & the original stock pickup swapped for Seymour Duncan 'Vintage' SPB-1. A really good precision bass in every way. 14.
There was a thread on Gustafson's death already but I can't find it either.
Found it, http://basschat.co.u...-gustafson-rip/ For some reason the search function doesn't find it TBH was surprised at what I thought was no mention.
15. Apologies if this has already been posted, but couldn't see anything on here... Apparently John Gustafson passed away last week http://classicrock.t...fson-dead-at-72 Amongst the many other bands he played for , he did some great stuff with Roxy Music. 16. *SOLD - Dearmond ('by Guild') Starfire MIK 1997 from the renowned Peerless factory My bass cull continues, I'm reducing my collection down to a P-Bass ... Finished in a lovely transparent crimson red with a nice grain pattern showing through. In excellent condition, no dings or scratches etc. The medium scale (32") neck is good & straight, vintage style frets have virtually no wear. There is a slight repair by Overwater Guitars done between binding & fretboard at first fret - I've tried to show this in the photo. However, it's a good solid repair, hardly noticeable, cannot be felt & doesn't affect the playabilty of this fast neck. Electrics work fine. The stock USA made 'Gold Tone' pickups sound really sweet. The bass itself has quite a wide tonal range, surprising for a hollowbody - from a sixties thump to almost Jaco-esque burp from the bridge pickup. There's a centre block in the body which helps eliminate feedback at high volumes, also great for when using fuzz pedals! I've had the crap (IMO) stock tuners upgraded to decent Wilkinson ones. These hold their tuning well & are very smooth. They also fitted in the existing screw holes in the headstock. I will include the original tuners, should/if the new owner want them. A new hard case is included with sale. Hard cases for Starfires are virtually impossible to come by. However the Epiphone Jack Casady case fits the Starfire nicely (these are £99 from GAK) The bass is currently strung with a new set of Status flatwounds, but I will also include a nicely played in set of 32" scale D'addario Chromes, which are bit different sounding. 18. now £425 1980 Shergold Marathon MK1a in 'Cherry Red' With much reluctance selling this lovely vintage iconic British bass... In pretty good condition. Few dinks in the body, though nothing major as can be seen in the photos. Has the usual lacquer cracking that all Shergolds have, though not too much - if it didn't it would be a respray Lovely neck to play, frets have plenty of life left in them. Neck is good & straight, binding in excellent condition. Strung with 45-105 DR Lo-Riders. I've had the bass rewired with quality 250k CTS pots & a PIO tone cap. This vastly improves tone & output over the original 100k pots. However, it is an easily reversible mod - I have kept all the original pots & tropical fish cap, wiring harness & will provide with bass to new owner, for completeness. Tonewise, I would describe this bass as being a cross between a precision & a Rickenbacker. As per photos the bass is with it's original truss rod cover, pick guard & rare ashtray bridge cover. Plenty of info about these rare & increasingly sought after vintage British instruments at http://www.shergold.co.uk/ [s]£465.[/s] [s]£450[/s] £425 ...Pickup Bristol, but maybe can drop off locally or in North West & Oxford areas when visiting on business. Can also post anywhere in UK or most of World. Please PM me if interested, or if further info/photos required. Thanks
19. My favourite flats too, been playing a set for a few years now & they just get better. Bassbod turned me on to them ...a good halfway house between Labellas & Chromes. More low mids than Chromes & punchier than Labellas, but they still have plenty of thump. Lovely to play too.
20. *SOLD* Mods please remove EMG active P-Bass pickup with pots, harness, socket etc.... A 'vintage' 80's model in good condition. £30 (exc.P&P) Please PM me if interested. Cheers
21. *SOLD* Mods please remove Fender Roadworn 50's Precision Pickup for sale. I understand that this the USA made Fender Original Precision pickup, but relic'd in the 'Roadworn' fashion. Great vintage tone. Uninstalled from my own Roadworn, which was replaced by a SD SPB-1 I had spare, really because that's what I've always used. However, TBH I can't hear much difference in tone, the Fender sounds as if it has a touch more in the mids, still a very sweet sounding pickup. £25 (exc. P&P) Please PM me if interested.
22. Nice demo! I also use a Prunes & Custard clone, it's a cool pedal - sounds wicked with flats, especially with strings damped... I run mine with drive a bit higher at around 3 o'clock with the mix fairly far over at about 9 o'clock. I like both bass & guitar settings, but I can't hear any difference with 'lo freq contour' switch(?) Also like to run an octaver & a mutron clone into mine - big funky tones!
23. I don't think Tom Waghorn's doing repairs & setups anymore. I'd recommend Dave Rowlinson http://www.facebook.com/pages/Rowlinson-Guitar-Repair He previously worked for Tom. Did a nice defret job on an old Ibanez for me, pretty good. His number is 07581 515190
