8.
Best tone so far is Cooper Clarke but can't see the bass?
As well as producing, the late great Martin Hannett played bass for John Cooper Clarke, usually a Musicman.
JUst saw this about the LPF Yes a cap and a resistor is a basic filter, for an active one theres a vero layout on musikding forums for an alembic like filter i have it saved somewhere but can't find it! Otherwise theres a craig anderson designed filter in his book. (I have the book as a PDF if anyone....) which is a state variable filter with HP, BP and LP possible. Not built either mind
Also worth looking at is the Electronix (Zeibek) Submarine bass preamp http://zeibek.com/bass-pedals/submarine, which is heavily borrowed from Albert Kruezer preamp. Vero layout on DIY stompbox gallery. Built one myself, quick & easy - a good useful bass preamp.
 11.
That's a common and very usefull feature in any amp, not a bad thing. It keeps us from spending a lot of money on repairs...
Not particularly useful if it cuts out during a gig IMHO.
If a amp is cutting out then we should start thinking about replacing/adding cabs or upgrading to a more powerfull head. I remember having a couple of cut outs from my old 300W Trace Elliot... after learning how to set the gain correctly and EQ properly never had that problem again!
All good valid points, but don't think relevant with regards to my issues with the BA500H TBH. Cheers Nick
 12.
Whoops, I'm thinking of buying on of these as sort of back-up/practice and not found too much in the way of reviews. Thanks for this, let us know how you get on. Now they're back in stock I was looking forward to what appears to be a bargain.
I'm going to send it back, but have asked them to hold one as replacement for me. TBH, apart from this issue, think this is a cracking amp, so want to give another one a go. They shift tons of these amps, so it's not unrealistic to expect one or two having a problem IMHO.
Were you driving it very hard at this point?
No, just under 3/4 way up on master volume, gain less than half. EQ flat, Tokai Harpuncher with P-Retro. Pretty restrained playing...
 13. Fresh from picking up my Harley Benton BA500H head at the local post office, gave it a road test this evening during rehearsal. Really liked the sound of this amp, ran it into rather nice EA 12" cab (borrowed from Bassbod), quite easy to dial in a reasonably convincing old school tone, but still quite a versatile EQ. With the master volume 3/4 up, the amp kept up with drums & guitar. However, after about 90 minutes, the head started intermittently cutting out & switching on. Glad I tested this before gig at weekend! Guess it's going back to Thomann now.
 14. Very sad.
 15. Gorgeous.
 16. There's just too many great Tamla basslines http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWsJdnDEzGI
 17. You could hang your clothes out on this bassline. Babbitt in the pocket http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKLqmPk-9IA
 18.
Does anyone think that a modern day version of the Bass Baby would be something of interest to players? J
If it's as good as the old ones, yes. However, unless I'm confusing models, isn't the new Studio 60 somewhat similar to what the old Bass Baby was?
 19. Good to see H/H back. I still sometimes use an old Studio 60 'Bass Baby' for smaller gigs - it's got a good sound.
 20. Go for it. I've got one in my old Tokai Hardpuncher it's great!
 21. Hi Jakub, You'll undoubtably get many different answers & opinions to your question... but I like the Catalinbread SFT for warming my tone up - it's quite versatile as the youtube clips show. I also think the Digitec Bad Monkey is not bad too. Cheers Nick
