1. Canadian metal band voivod circa 1986.
2. Back in the early 90s I bought a Guitar World magazine with the transcription to Number of the beast. I always liked Maiden and enjoyed their albums but struggling to keep up with the tempo and laying down those runs was a real challenge. I think I came away from that with even more respect for Steve Harris. I still get finger cramps when hear that intro
3.
AC/DC Fly on the Wall. Yes, the production is dodgy, but the songs are great and compare favourably to others from the Johnson era.
I'd like to hear a remix remaster of fly on the wall but I doubt it will happen any time soon.
4. Ac dc flick of the switch Judas Priest ram it down Metallica load reload Wasp the Crimson idol Dio dream evil Black sabbath seventh star
5. I prefer the Bon era but enjoy most of their albums. Good starting point when picking up on playing the bass. My band tried zz top's tush which is quite straightforward and a similar style to ac/dc.
6. Assuming your a fan of ac/dc I'd try dirty deeds, jailbreak or who made who next? Squealer is a fun bassline to try.
7. Subscribed to your YouTube channel. Great sound can hear the newsted influences
8. I love the sound of the tobias bass. Great playing too.
9. While I was collecting vinyl in the 80s bands would use exclusive b sides for their 12" singles and gatefold sleeves which looked really cool. Picture discs I never really liked and didn't appreciate the sound quality of these. Reissues do feel a bit of a cash in now but some of the mid nineties Lps were pressed in small numbers so sell for lots on auction sites.
10. Nice rb950 that finish is called wine burst. I love Roadstar basses and this rb950 was the top of the range back in 1984. I think it was 85 or 86 they started to put active electronics in the more expensive roadstars like the 760 850 and 960 basses.
11. Lovely I have a later 1986 model which is a little bit lighter
12. Had a few practices where our old singer didn't show up and that's when we all realised how many cues we took from the vocals. Not a train wreck but not as tight as normal
13. Don't see many in that finish, I thought it was called black pearl? Stuck in my memory as I associated it with pirates of the Caribbean. Nice bass and great condition good luck with the sale.
14. Love that roadster amazing wood grain and has obviously been very well looked after.
15.
Been a fan of Metallica since 1986, Cliff was a great inspiration to me from an attitude and aggression front. What does my head in, in all the bass magazines for years he was pretty much ignored and as metal has always had its share of people knocking it, he was never really mentioned. Now as the years have passed, Aria now decide to release signature SB1000s and all that now he's a 'legend' !! 25 years too late with the basses although you can pick up an original for a lot less than their signature reissues are !! Scott Ian spilled the firing Lars beans quite blatantly, so if history HAD been different, We could have had a James, Kirk and Cliff band with a different drummer and Metallica might have carried on with another line-up as Lars owns the name. The loss of Cliff made James and Kirk decide to stay put. If they had continued as Metallica, who knows how they'd have ended up sounding ?? Might Cliff had left as the years went by... as I cant imagine him getting a haircut and eyeliner later on somehow. We'll never know.
I wonder if Dave Lombardo leaving Slayer in 1986 was a coincidence or if he had been promised another gig. There is a youtube video of James, Kirk and Rob playing Helpless with Charlie Benante which sounds great. Funny as Lars walks in and his face is a picture.
16. I think it was 88 I discovered anthrax and 89 I heard and justice for all. Quite late in the day to discover thrash really
17. Metallica with cliff in the band played donnington in 1985 also
18. metallica were at their peak when cliff died which is how he's now remembered. If it had been Lars that had died them Metallica fans would be unfavourably comparing their new drummer to Lars.
19. such an inspiring bassist and unique stage presence
20. I really enjoyed discovering their back catalogue in 1988. Now I'm wondering would it still have the same impact in 2016? Sad day for me was going into Virgin megastore to buy the new maiden album in 2000 to be told "you should find it in the classic rock section" . I was only 26 but felt so much older.
21. 1990 - I was losing interest in Maiden, Priest and AC/DC and getting into thrash. Megadeth released a great album that year and remained my favourite band ever since.
22. Owned the schecter custom four and five string basses and they played and sounded great. These had active emgs which had a punchy mid range sound but not enough low end for me. The necks are on the skinny side 38mm nut width on the four string can't remember the five but the string spacing on the five was very tight.
23. Helloween Pink bubbles go ape I really enjoyed the keeper of the seven keys albums so was looking forward to the follow up. When kerrang announced the album title I thought huh? When they printed the advert for the kids of the century single I assumed it was a joke. Those wacky Germans....
24. I seem to remember the roger waters neck had a chunky profile? Not fretless though
25. He's earned his millions and I think the challenge in that gig would be playing root notes for almost 40 years. Few songs from ac dc that have stand out bass tracks from cliff era gone shooting, love hungry man and big gun. Bon' lyrics are what I've missed in post 70s ac dc
