I get a sense looking at this and many other used basses for sale on ebay, and even some here on BC, that not many bass players seem to know what intonation is...

Collection of unusual Doug Wilkes basses
This guy doesn't have a background in advertising, does he?
To be fair, they are that ugly that even if he didnt it would still be a hard sell! -
It has actually happened on my old Warwick Streamer, slighly radiused fretboard but the frets now have zero radius so are "sprouting" at either end. Need to get it across to my local luthier so he can bash them back in to shape.

Any famous guitarists good at playing bass?
I think Danish oil is ok as long as it is based on tung oil (which this is). Is tapping frets something I should be able to do (if I'm careful)? It certainly sounds preferable to explaining to Mrs T why I'm taking my new bass into the bathroom with me!!
Getting a pro to sort your frets would be a very worthwhile investment. Don't risk causing permanent damage by attempting it yourself.

Sandberg Basic 4 String, Blue, Superb Condition, Price Drop! Final price drop bump. Now only £500 inc shipping within UK. Trades considered of equal value or lesser value with money coming my way. Not sure why this model is called 'Basic' as it is anything but. This is a German built bass that oozes quality and has a superb and versatile and amazing tone as well as having extremely ergonomic design. The retails for one of these is £1275! All original(except the Schaller straplocks but I will include the originals) and in stunning condition. The serial number IDs it as being built in 2009. Recently setup and fret-dressed by a local luthier. Strung with brand new D'addario EXL170s Despite only having only one pickup the sound is very versatile thanks to the 3 band EQ and active/passive switching. The output of the pup is very HOT which gives the EQ plenty of headroom. It will be a real shame to see this go as it is a superb bass in every respect except that I now am only playing 5 strings. If it was a 5er I would keep it without question. Balance is incredible - neck sits at +45 degrees when you are standing), it's a very manageable 4.3KG and extremely comfortable (see the beautiful sculpting and cutaways) and just extremely easy to play. Specs from Sandberg site: neck canadian hardrock maple fingerboard radius 14 inch width, zero fret 40 mm string spacing @ nut 10.5 mm width, 12th fret 55 mm width, 24th fret 61 mm string spacing 19 mm to 20.5 mm size frets 2.7 mm neck profile D-shape

optimistic improvements on a Squier VM
dyerseve replied to mcnach's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
funny thing about internet forums is they are for discussion. that is the flow of comments back and forth between various parties, all of whom are voluntarily taking part. Dont like it, dont take part. Getting back to the topic of whether modifications add or detract from resale value, 95% of the time they will detract. Unless you have a seller looking for that specific bass with those specific mods then you will have a hard time getting more than current market value. The other instance would be if the mods were done by the manufacturer of the bass. It's a bit like selling a custom built bass, people want to know exactly what they will be getting for their money - modifications or non-stock builds add too many variables for people to be readily willing to shell out over current market value for such instruments. -
"Usually upgrades add nothing to resale value" I'll have to keep that in mind
that is correct. if its not stock then the resale value diminishes. -
I'm getting a Streamer 4 stripped (original poly black) and refinished in white for £170 by a local Luthier.

If I see a Morris dance troupe coming towards me....
dyerseve replied to Biglump's topic in General Discussion
I will try anything once, except Morris dancing and incest. Especially not Morris dancing! -
Is this a passive bass? Are you making it passive? If not, watch for the resistance of the original pots. That might limit your options.
Its active. I will be changing all the pots anyway. Might also use a push push volume pot to allow active/passive switching.

So I am in the final stages of restoring an early Warwick Streamer 5 string broadneck with Bart soapbars. It is a rather lovely thing with all the goodies of 'wick of that era including a solid brass bridge which weighs about as much as the body! It also has the Bartolini soapbars which I notice look like they are split coil(is that the correct term?). From memory they have red and white wires already joines together(not attached to any pot) and then a green wire and the shield leading to the appropriate pot. So what I am thinking of doing is getting a couple of push/push pots to replace the original pots for the bass and treble controls so I could add series/parallel switching for each pup. I dont care about ruining the "originality" of the bass as ive just finished refinishing it and I would rather have a bass that sounds as good as possible. So, does anyone have any experience of Bart pups of this era and particularly operating them in series/parallel mode? What does it add to the sound? Cheers, Chris PS. will post some pics of the pups when I get home tonight.

Status Series 1 = lightweight, lovely thin fast neck, superbly balanced, very low action, versatile, sounds great, comfortable. Used around £6-700. Out of all my basses, this is my go-to bass
I'm using a Hercules mini, which is far from ideal really.
What's not ideal about it Kevin? I use a similar stand for my basses and it is perfect and nicely portable. I cant see how the width of the bass could be a problem for these types of stands...

What are you talking about?
Not to say potentially infectious... lots of stuff can be transmitted by blood. (Disclaimer: I don't know anything about Mr Carnivore except that he has a silly name.)
no, not infectious at all. nothing carried by blood(or saliva, semen etc) can survive outside of the human body for very long AFAIK
May I ask why?
It the price not quite low for this bass? I thought it was. If not then ignore my comment. But given how many gumtree and ebay scam listing have the locattion listed as the middle of nowhere in the far north of Scotland... -
