1. maybe he means it's a base model guitar? or maybe he is just a moron...
2. funny thing about internet forums is they are for discussion. that is the flow of comments back and forth between various parties, all of whom are voluntarily taking part. Dont like it, dont take part. Getting back to the topic of whether modifications add or detract from resale value, 95% of the time they will detract. Unless you have a seller looking for that specific bass with those specific mods then you will have a hard time getting more than current market value. The other instance would be if the mods were done by the manufacturer of the bass. It's a bit like selling a custom built bass, people want to know exactly what they will be getting for their money - modifications or non-stock builds add too many variables for people to be readily willing to shell out over current market value for such instruments.
3.
"Usually upgrades add nothing to resale value" I'll have to keep that in mind
that is correct. if its not stock then the resale value diminishes.
4. I'm getting a Streamer 4 stripped (original poly black) and refinished in white for £170 by a local Luthier.
5. I will try anything once, except Morris dancing and incest. Especially not Morris dancing!
6. photos of the beasties in question:
7.
Is this a passive bass? Are you making it passive? If not, watch for the resistance of the original pots. That might limit your options.
Its active. I will be changing all the pots anyway. Might also use a push push volume pot to allow active/passive switching.
8. So I am in the final stages of restoring an early Warwick Streamer 5 string broadneck with Bart soapbars. It is a rather lovely thing with all the goodies of 'wick of that era including a solid brass bridge which weighs about as much as the body! It also has the Bartolini soapbars which I notice look like they are split coil(is that the correct term?). From memory they have red and white wires already joines together(not attached to any pot) and then a green wire and the shield leading to the appropriate pot. So what I am thinking of doing is getting a couple of push/push pots to replace the original pots for the bass and treble controls so I could add series/parallel switching for each pup. I dont care about ruining the "originality" of the bass as ive just finished refinishing it and I would rather have a bass that sounds as good as possible. So, does anyone have any experience of Bart pups of this era and particularly operating them in series/parallel mode? What does it add to the sound? Cheers, Chris PS. will post some pics of the pups when I get home tonight.
9. Status Series 1 = lightweight, lovely thin fast neck, superbly balanced, very low action, versatile, sounds great, comfortable. Used around £6-700. Out of all my basses, this is my go-to bass
10.
I'm using a Hercules mini, which is far from ideal really.
What's not ideal about it Kevin? I use a similar stand for my basses and it is perfect and nicely portable. I cant see how the width of the bass could be a problem for these types of stands...
11. What are you talking about?
12.
Not to say potentially infectious... lots of stuff can be transmitted by blood. (Disclaimer: I don't know anything about Mr Carnivore except that he has a silly name.)
no, not infectious at all. nothing carried by blood(or saliva, semen etc) can survive outside of the human body for very long AFAIK
13. All i said was to be cautious. I dont know if it's a scam or not but thought i would mention it just in case.
14.
May I ask why?
It the price not quite low for this bass? I thought it was. If not then ignore my comment. But given how many gumtree and ebay scam listing have the locattion listed as the middle of nowhere in the far north of Scotland...
15. given the location i would be cautious...
16. Good spot! Yes that is very odd indeed. Very poor quality control is what this looks like but I can't believe it wouldn't have been noticed when soldering the leads to the jack. I would send that pic to the supplier and see what they have to say.
17. The controls on the back must make it so comfy as well!!! Maybe now we finally have a bass that can give your buckle a rash instead!!!😂
18. I had the exact same thing happen on a push pull volume pot I installed recently on a friend's bass. It was the new pot that failed. Before removing it you can try squirting some contact cleaner in there and operating the push pull cycle about 20 -30 times just in case there is something fouling the contacts or the have become oxidized. Otherwise a new pot is about £7. Maybe try a push push pot as they are easier to operate.
19. Almost.... Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262356324422
20.
I'll try and get in touch with them via fecebook but i don't think EBS is going to offer me anything... I've found the type of footswitch, it's a 4PDT footswitch that works in two rows of 6. the cheapest place i've found for it is Banzai Music at 8,33€ but there's another 8€ of P&P.... https://www.banzaimusic.com/4PDT-Switch-HD-4FTQ.html Anybody knows of any UK store that stocks them?
Try Farnell and RS Components. They should be the cheapest. Failing that try ebay...
21. I would contact the manufacturer directly and explain the situation. They may even be able to supply one FOC
22. great to hear you are sorted and they are still delivering the same high level of customer service!
23. AFAIK the important thing to look for when choosing batteries is the Ah(Amp hour) rating. The higher the figure the longer they will last(theoretically)
24.
Just purchased one these Warwicks , the single humbucker version , and when looked inside the back , found that the MEC circuit board has two ` trim ` pots on the corner . Does anyone know what they are for ? No reply from MEC or Warwick . ( did not really expect any reply ! ) Pete
Warwick are normally very good at replying to emails so either wait a bit or try again.
25.
Not outrageous - £150 - price also included a set up and new nut.
Not outrageous! That is very reasonable money for a job like that, especially given the quality of the repair! Great to see a bass saved from becoming skip fodder! Do you have any before and after shots from the front of the neck please?
