1. Great event today. Really enjoyed meeting everyone. Cheers Geoff
2. I've just been in. It's a great shop and has amazing bass stock. The overwaters looks great! Really nice staff too. Great to see an independent guitar shop doing well.
3. I've never bothered taking a backup or needed one. I always have essentials within reach, strings, leads etc.. In the time it would take me to dig out the spare bass guitar and tune it I could have almost changed the string. My spare strings are my old ones so they are already cut to fit and it takes no time at all. I guess if I broke strings regularly I would but it's only happened once. Changed it really quick, no problems. After the gig half the band hadn't even noticed! Keyboard players/double bassists/drummers/sax players etc... don't take a spare. The only time I see it is with regular guitar.
4. The G4M one I played was quite different from the paltino. It looked great on the site, good design. The one in the shop was very badly put together and was really disappointed. I actually thought the neck looked like the materials were ok but I couldn't work out why the heel was no where near a useful position. However I can belive that they might just have ran out of wood and knocked it up. Perhaps it was just a bad one.
5. I played a G4M eub last week. I didn't like it at all and way prefered the stagg. The G4M one in their store was in very bad shape and seemed to be really poor quality. The main problem which for me is a huge one, is that the neck has no heel. Well it does but it's WAY past a D or Eb stop. More like an octave higher! If I wanted a 'heel less' neck I would go for a NS wav. I've also recently tried a stagg which seemed very good value. If it had a proper set up then it would have been fine. Good luck with the search cheers Geoff
6. Outragous bargain bass for low money bump!
7. Yeh, I wish they would get a move on! I'm pretty sure it will be insanely expensive but I would love to try one!
8. Try Paul Ayres Violins or George Stoppani for set ups in Manchester.
9. Thanks Roger. For once spending all day on the Internet has proved to be useful :-) better try to do some practice now, no excuses!
10. I will take it! PMed :-)
11. It looks really compact for a five string. Great bass, enjoy.
12.
Thanks for your kind words, yea your right about being out of tune. The open string major 3rd chord things i was trying did sound out. I will have to check the intonation. Best regards, Mark
Hi Mark. Sorry I ment that my playing was out of tune up top. Yours sounded great. I love the chords you play at the start. Cheers Geoff
13.
Yup that there is the real deal. Every time I try an upright it sounds like cow farting
Thanks a lot wombatboter and funkyhobbit! It's a bit out of tune up top but it often is :-) ...I enjoyed your playing funkyhobbit. Great bass too!
14. Go on WOT, Bring the streamliner. And don't forget one of your nice jazz basses! :-)
15. Great looking bass. Good luck with your sale :-)
16. Such a great player. I love his ideas/phrasing.
17. That's a monster bass! I really need to get a smith! Enjoy :-)
18. Here's a short clip of me playing a funk line on upright.
19. Thanks Pete. That's a fantastic article.
20. Sorry if I've missed something but could it be a 'parts' bass with an overwater bridge. Is there any reason to think the body is made by overwater other than it being fitted with one of their bridges. I'm sure it's a great bass. Enjoy.
21. Just checked out some Gadow basses via google. They really look amazing.
22. I've not heard of Gadow but what an amazing looking bass! Enjoy!
23. Yeh it was a while back since I've played it but Hugh's bass sounded fanstastic. Bassace's looks like a great buy! Good luck with the sale :-) cheers Geoff
24. Hi Keith. I've been following the thread on Talkbass. I agree about the gold hardware. The rest looks great! I'm still on the lookout for a decent eub and have been hoping that these will make it to the shops in the uk before too long. That said I have a feeling they will be really expensive :-(
25. Hi Roger. I really like the belcantos for acoustic pizz. However I couldn't make them work with an amp. BTW I love them with the bow!
