3.
Played this bass ,it's very nice, lovely slim neck EDIT; Actually i've played two Les Evans basses and they were both quality builds I have a les evans 6...the build/sound quality is up there with Fodera.....best kept secret in the bass universe...the man is a class builder.
4.
I always used to use the rotosound sets of 30-40-60-80-100-125 on my Yamaha TRB-6, but I think Status do a lighter Hotwire set with a .25 guage top string. Rich.
Thanks for that Rich
 5.
I use light Elixirs set on my 7 string which I tune BEADGBE- so that's .040-095 or 100 for the standard four, a .032 for the high B and an Elixir guitar string which looks like it must be a .024 for the high E. I thought it was lighter than that but that's the lightest wound single string I can see. Also a .125 for the low B if anyone's interested. Hope that helps. edited to add- that's on a 34" scale BTW. Also, keep some old string handy if you use the guitar string route- I had to thread on a bass ball end to get the top string to stay in the bridge.
Thanks for that. I actually want a 7 string..and tune it like you...but I have way too many basses. What 7 string do you use...and have you ever played one of the ones from the 'far east' Thanks for the info
 6. I now have a few 6 strings all tuned the same B-B . I want to string one up to tune from E to E (same as a G*****R) but obviously an octave lower..can anyone suggest suitable string gauges...for a 34" scale length?? Thanks.
 7. This is the bass I want at the moment....but the 6 string version.. http://www.lightwave-systems.com/products/...bass_guitar.php that and a schack carbonite 5 or 6...with a 35" scale
 8. Item withdrawn...looks like I'm keeping it...wasn't REALLY sure that I wanted to sell it in the first place anyway. MY GAIN....YOUR LOSS !!!!!
 9. With basses, amps and extras all offering a mind boggling array of tonal flexibility I am interested in the starting point that players use when dialing in their tone. For example if you have an active bass with a 3 band eq....and an amp with (say) a 5 band eq...assuming that we start off flat.....do you boost /cut from the bass THEN the amp....or the other way round....and why. your thoughts gentlemen please.
 10. Does it have the 13pin socket for synth access? Thanks
 11. Up for sale is my Morly pro flanger from 1980. All details can be fouind here.. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...1&hl=morley I am after £275. I have seen tatty examples on ebay for about the same price...but with no box , no instructions..but lots of scratches. This is a very fine example with all the original box, packing, instructions, and schematic..and also in very nice cosmetic condition, Might be interested in some kind of trade ...no sure what for...no effect pedals though...
 12. These are great...nice tone and good playability. Good electronics too. They have a good spread of useable tones...including a nice single coil bridge pup sound.
 13. Friendly bump for a nice guy and a nice bass
 14.
I'm in Cleveleys near Blackpool matey. Postage is no problem
I do like this jazz...but I'm put off by the fact that the back pick up sound doesn't sound like a jazz...I think you said it had more of a precision type tone....that's a shame.
 15. This could be a potential bargain for someone....only 20hrs left £375 start price...and no bids...... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...IT#ht_500wt_977
 16.
It's not hard to spec up a new Alembic into five-figure territory. The cost for some of the options is insane. I have to keep reminding myself that five figures is pretty much the starting number for a good quality classical instrument, but when other luthiers are making bass guitars that are 95% as good as Alembics at maybe 25% of the price, I wonder how they get away with it. Stunning bass though. I do amuse myself occasionally by looking through the monthly specials on their website. There's some seriously stunning looking instruments on there.
Gotta disagree with you there my friend, I've played and owned quite a few boutique type basses and have to play one that is 95% as good for only 25% of the price. I paid £1995 for this ..new in 1989...which was way more than most other basses at the time..but it was and still is a CLASS BASS...it exudes sophistication in terms of design, construction and tone...30 years later £1995 won't get you a bass as good as this..in fact the mind boggles at the prices factory produced instruments are going for. I love the tone of Fender jazzes...but don't tell me that any fender is in this kind of class..yet some mediocre fender with a "70's vibe" will fetch more than my Alembic when it was new...(or even secondhand). There are some wonderful basses around..there probably has never been a better time in terms of choice for boutique basses....but they are not cheap. I do think the price of a new Alembic is astronomical though...but then again so was mine in 1989...but I still own it and cane it...and right now it seems excellent value...
 17.
Bump
Hi will this (ACG bass) give a good jaco 'burpy' tone? thanks
 18.
It looks very very well made, whats the guys name? I only know him as Carl...he's kinda kept in touch (even though I bought it off him on ebay ages ago)...he wants first refusal if I decide to sell...he used to love this bass..but circumstances........
19.
That's really nice - the builder/seller clearly has talent - is the shape a bit Warrior-like?
Yes it is...very warrior like.
