  1. Good morning all. Ive been offered a reconditioned 1972 OR 120B tube amp in a part ex for my bass ( Gibson Eb5 2014) I know mothing about these amps..or what they're worth. Can anyone please let me know if they're good amps....and what would a good reconditioned one be worth? Thanks in advance.
  2. I want to make a ramp. Question... Does placing a bit of wood between the top of the pick ups and the strings, affect the output of the pickups? Thanks.
  3. Thanks for that. So does a low B with a 30" scale work ok..? I thought it might be a bit floppy?
  4. Hi, is it tuned E-E? what thickness is the thinnest string? thanks.
  5. Naa..don’t do that man…I’ve never seen a fretless one…I do understand what you’re saying about it’s versatility though. just my tuppence worth…
  6. Thanks. Theres a lot I hadn't considered.
  7. I currently use a 6 string bass with round wound strings, the thinnest being around .020". The bass has a 34" scale. ..andctuned E-E. The problem I'm having is there is a very marked difference in tone on the 2 thinnest strings....they sound very scratchy , and noticeably different tonally to the other 4. I'm thinking of trying a low tension set of flats, but have no idea of what gauges to use. I'm thinking that the top E would be around .020...most 6 strung flatwound sets I've seen have a whopping low B..that I dont want. Any suggestions for make/ string gauges etc would be most welcome...I'm tryingbto eliminate the horrible tone of my fingers on very thin rounwounds...any helps or tops would be very welcome.
  8. I love your bass. I'd love to sit down & try some bass lab basses.
  9. John McLaughlin & the 4th Dimension at the Barbican on Sat 28th.
  10. Does this bass have a piezo pick up as well as the neck mounted pick up?
  11. Beautiful looking bass. Do the also have a good acoustic sound/ voloume?
  12. I've owned this amp from new and love the tone. However some years ago it developed a fault...the volume slowly " fizzled out" after playing for 20 mins or so...and the faded in and out of it's own accord. I took it to Surrey Amps, and they did a very thorough job servicing/ repairing it. The fault came back..they very graciously had another look, and could find nothing wrong with it. I hadn't used it for a while..plugged in again..and now...nothing. Curiously..in the past, the amo would sometimes leap into action, if I hit the strings hard with the palm of my hand. Does anyone know an Ampeg expert..? I'm out of touch with " new" mini amps..I tried a mini mark bass amp..and didn't like the tone. Is it time for a new amp? Are these old transistor amps inherently unreliable? Any suggestions welcome. If any of you are amp repair experts..fancy buying a wounded Ampeg? HELP!
