No probs m8! The Squiers are certainly fine basses - I really want the sonic blue one they've got in there - if I buy that, I will have a nice set of three CV basses! Cheers! Nick
do you mean the 51 P bass style one? that looked pretty sweet! see thats the problem, there is no mim option for basses like that - so are the days of the mim basses numbered?...
If you are talking about a certain establishment co-founded by a certain bass player's Dad where said bassist teaches in Lincoln Road then they would never take the p*ss - take it from me, you should know that mate. As Pete A notes, the street prices on Fender have shot through the roof, as have many products. The shop does its very best to match internet prices and given the recent change in ownership, its in a good position! Cheers Nick
No I didn't mean the shop taking the p*ss, certainly not - I've had some absoloutly cracking deals (and I mean AMAZING) in there in the past, and are a fantastic shop. I worded it a bit badly. I meant is it really costing this much more to produce and ship a bass to the UK for a shop to sell since the worlds economic turn, or have Fender just jumped the prices up using the economy as an excuse to make a few more quid? The mentioned Dean price rise and the Ibanez price rise doesn't seem quite as steep as Fenders. The new Squire stuff is lovely, and as Rich said, you are in some cases looking at better value instruments compared to the MIM Fenders. How much more expensive could a MIM Fender possibly get befor people just won't buy them any more and get either the cheaper but equally as good Squire, or shell out more for the lovely MIA Fender?

So I popped into my local store today to pick up a new mic clip thingy for my vocal mic, and was told that they "have some nice Fenders in" and that they could do me 25% off in their sale. Well, I'm not in the market, and would never buy a new bass again now anyway, but I had a look. There was one Fender. The rest were Squires (nice Squires mind you). The Fender was a MIM Jazz, pretty plain. £659! SIX-HUNDRED AND FIFTY-NINE POUNDS! I very nearly LOLed right there and then. Have prices really risen that much on retail? Or was this some serious piss taking? When I brought my MIM Jazz 3 or so years back, I payed £350 NEW. Blimy.

Famous Basses...I wonder where that went?
karlthebassist replied to witterth's topic in Bass Guitars
I recall reading that a lot of Entwistles basses (I think he had 120-150 when he died) were auctioned off after his death. I think I'm right in saying that the salmon pink/fiesta red whatever you call it P-bass that was used on the quadraphenia (sp?) album sold for less than £5k, so quite a bargain for a die hard fan. -
The correct answer is Vox Symphonic 1962. I realise that most of you knew that but were too busy having fun with some offbeat comments so I have decided everybody gets the prize which is the attached copy of a photograph entitled "When Leo met Howie" This was taken in June 1979 - that's me when I had something resembling a hairline and a waistline - all gawn now. And in case you're wondering, yes I did get his autograph (it looks a lot like the headstock logo) but that cannot be part of the prize.
Oh I LOVE this photo! "See Howie, this is where I should have put the bloody pickup in the first place!"

Maybe I'm a bit odd, but I switch between 3 different strap lengths... I have a Levis leather strap, one of those two piece ones that you thread through itself to make it short or stupidly long. I have mine on the shortest setting and have two extra holes cut in so it can go even shorter. I have it low (hip height) for picks, uber high for slap and technical stuff (chest height) and in the middle for everyday funky finger. Band mates used to take the piss, but quite a few have started to see the light and play up high now

That '78 P-bass is an awesome colour. Can't really see from the pics but is it a solid or trans colour? Beautie whatever.

Gald too help. Let me know if it cures the problem. If it doesn't work your only alternitive will be to nick his radio.

My RnB/Soul band's first gig was supporting Wilko Johnson back in the mid 00's. The bass player was a propper scary looking bloke. Had an AWESOME jazz. Amazing bunch of guys. Would like to see that.

Learning a different instrument.....

Electric violin, electric cello... theyre pretty quiet acoustically. -
This sounds strange. At first I thought maybe it was an earthing problem - and that the bass your neighbour could hear was likely to be more like string noise etc, as that's the sort of thing that can work its way back through earth/electrics for example. But when you say he car hear it through his wireless radio! That's crazy. Its almost like your amp would have to be transmitting a signal... which I suppose could again point to earthing. By any chance, was the house originaly one house that has been turned into two? Could explain some dodgy earth sharing. Your electrics don't sound too clever tbh if you've got sockets cutting lights out - lighting and ringmains should be entirely seperate, except for returning to a common ground. I might suggest, as V4lve has said, you have someone play your bass, go round his and listen to what he claims to be hearing before you go any further. He might just be being a c**k. You could try going down the audiophile route and trying some mains conditioning. I use mains filters on my HiFi setup to kill earth noises and give me a generally cleaner power supply, which improves the overall clarity and lowers the noise floor. There is no reason that I can see that one of these devies couldn;t prevent noise being injected into the mains from your amp... there are some mentally expensive products out there for doing this, but the cheapest and most highly rated mains conditioner out there is the TACIMA CS929 6-WAY MAINS CONDITIONER. Google that and expect to pay around £35 quid for it. Its a 6-way socket, so pretty handy for messy mains when gigging too I expect. I'm going to buy one for my Markbass LMII as I find they are very suseptiable to mains noise. I hope this helps. Would certainly be cheaper than having your house re-wired...

With peavey hysis 1 speakers my pub covers band uses a peavey cs1400 power amp @ about £350, and i have a soundcraft efx8, 8 channel desk (with 8 propper xlr inputs, not 4 xlr and 4 line like you normally get at that price) and has built in lexicon effects which are AWESOME. cost about £230... as for behringer... generally from what ive seen you get what you pay for. however, theyre desks are actually pretty damn good. they actually got taken to court over they mx8000 (i think) desk which was pretty much a copy of a rather tasty mackie desk! a lot of their desk designs are "borrowed" from other companies and are pretty good. but still, the soundcraft is lovely...

Sansamp programmable bass driver DI

Hi, I have here a Sansamp programmable bass driver DI. I have stopped using it since getting my Stingray so it is up for sale. It its in perfect working order - a few light marks, nothing serious. I can post pics if anyone is interested. I would like £120 for it ideally. As for trades, I'm not really into effects, but would trade for a normal single channel Sansamp BDDI or VT with a cash adjust my way, or maybe something else along the pre-amp pedal line... Other than that I am interested in pickups, bridges, tuning machines and necks of good quality. Just ask and I can post pics. Cheers Karl
