1. Its always hard to avoid making a "head" related gag in these threads! I saw you post on another thread about looking for a new amp. I'd say you could do a LOT worse than going for this head and pairing it up with a cab such as a decent 2x12. I say 2x12 as I personally think 12's are the way to go for a trade off between bottom end from 15's and definition from 10's - and with a band like Oni I guess you'll be wanting some biiiiig bass.
2.
Flats are always an option. Thomastik do really good flats with the option of a high C gauge. Certainly worth a go.
Cool, I just looked on the Thomastik website and they actually do full 6 String acoustic bass sets! Would stringing an acoustic with steel flats cause a problem with tension? Somthing like this wouldn't bother me with electric as I know a fair bit about the technical stuff, but acoustic basses, I know NOTHING about really.
3. I didn't think of that... mmm... I think I'm prepared to take the risk for the sake of bassy-goodness.
4. Haha. Cool beans. And our locations form a sort of triangle, so a meeting place shouldn't be too hard to arrange.
5. Or, to spice it up a bit - If you want a 4 sting, how about Moos3h takes my MINT Crafter - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=crafter, Sarah takes the Head, and I take Sarah's Ibanez? I have the 4 string of the Ibanez and I'd love to have the 5 too! I wouldn't mind a bit of a drive to make a deal possible either. PM me if youre interested. Cheers
6. At the top of my list of instruments I'd quite like, just below an NS WAV4, is this The Michale Kelly Club Custom 5 string. Now, for me the low B on any 5-string bass is useless. My mind just doesnt work that way - I tend to play in higher registers. What I would really like is to be able to tune EADGC, like on my 5-string electric (my 6 that I had was E-F). But I can't see how I could go about it. I can't find strings for acoustic bass that have a high C, and I imagine that the intonation would be way out without making a new bridge. Anyone here have or have experience with acoustic basses with a high C? 5 or 6 string. I'd love to at least know where to get strings from as a starting point. Cheers Karl
7. I hope slazman hasn't already got a feedback thread - I couldn't find one - but if he did, then now he's got two! Sold my LMII to Peter recently. He's a fantastic guy to deal with - paid quickly and just did everything he could to make the sale as easy as possible.
8. LMII over the Ashdown gear any day! I just sold my LMII for around the £350 mark, and there have been quite a few about lately, so finding one shouldn't be too hard. As for lightweight cabs - small "normal" weight cabs aren't really THAT heavy. I use Aguilar GS112's and althought they are not neo, they are still a one hand lift up and down stairs, and they can be pickud up at around the £250 mark. Well worth it IMO. For bigger cabs like 2x12 and 4x10 I would definately want neo though.
9. Very easy person to make a transaction with. Payed instantly too - always a bonus! Karl
10.
For a good fix of ''pop'' noise go here http://www.geofex.com/Article_Folders/box_pop.htm , this method works really well at least in my experience. With regard to loops your imagination ( and technical abilities ) are your limit. You can put anything on them, blend pots, volume pots, tone pots, feed them back through the loop again, integrate DI etc. Go here for some simple examples http://www.beavisaudio.com/techpages/PedalHacker/index.htm . Once you set on what you want it is pretty straight forward. When you think that something is going to defeat you then you have to change this attitude. About 2 months ago a pcb for some of the effects I've done recently would scare me sh*tless but now I'm more confident and thanks to other guys on here as well as wealth of info available on the net you can get through anything. Cheers Jack
Sweet. Thanks for that - I'll be kept busy over the weenend then. Cheers
11. Hey Chaps Two things really, First of all, I have built an MXR microamp from a schematic online, and I get the most horrible thump when switching it on and off. Is there something that can be done to a switching circuit to stop this thump/click? Other thing is, I'm collecting up a few effects these days, and want to make a loop selector or two to try and get the signal path down when im not using things. plus the boss effects SUCK tone like nothing else. I can think of how to make a loop pedal, with a loop on/bypass function, but it would be literaly wires, jacks and a footswitch. there are some seriously expensive loop pedals out there - what else is in them? i assume something to stop the clicking thump, but what else? I'm no stranger to electronics, as I did a lot of it during my apprenticeship, and have copied preamps and other circuites before. but the building from scratch thing allways seems to defeat me for some reason. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
12. Smiths are sooooooo sexy. Post pics EVERYWHERE on here if you get one.
13. My pedalboard is currently Bass > TU-2 > DD-6 Digital Delay > MT-2 Metal Zone Distortion > Amp and I rarely even use the DD-6, and when I do, it's usually on acoustic 6-string. I also have an Akai Headrush 2, which I just use for playing about at home - so is irrelivant. My main interest these days, from a creative side, is playing with my indi/folk band and I have plenty of oportunity to play some pretty melodic lines and maybe one or two bass solos. So I'm thinking of maybe getting a reverb. I do really like the sound of the EH Holy Grail on bass, and it would be awesome on my acoustic guitar too. I notice they do a nano version. Is this any different to the normal one? Or is is just smaller? I understand the nano pedals use the 9VDC center -ve power supplies too. Sounds like a bonus. Other things that grab my attention would be a chorus pedal (don't know which one), althougth I don't really know how usefull it would be. And an octave generator which would allow me to add octaves to simulate an 8 string bass, or add depth. Micro POG maybe? Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions of pedals that I could use for acoustic bass that would augment my sound in an interesting but tasteful way?
14. I have noticed I seem to send the notes sharp a fair bit as I'm not use to the lighter action the bass now seems to have. But by god the speed I can get around the board without ruining my fingers is awesome (awesome for me I mean). I had been doing a bit of slap recently and using my index and middle finger on my plucking hand in an entwistle stylie typewriter thingy against the frets to make up for my lack of thumb speed and its SOOO much easier with the lighter strings. I can also play fast down/up/down triplets with a pick much easier and cleaner sounding than before. i was thinking about moving to lighter picks, but now feel there is no need. I've set the action back to the hight I had it with the heavier strings which was no relief in the neck and 1/16" from the 12th fret on each string. It feels a lot slicker than it did before, and i reckon I could take it lower - but would probably be useless when playing with a pick. Interestingly, I find the use of the bass knob on my stingray eq much more musical to use now. before, i hardly touched it as it seemed to just make it all boomy, but now i have more control over the amout of bass produced. suppose its becusae less is being generated with the smaller strings. All in all, a good move. Now to try some flats on my p-bass...
15. Just changed strings on my Stingray. After playing on one of the rather lovely E-Basses last week which was sitting on light strings I thought I'd give it a go. I just switched from Elites Stadium Standard (45-105) to Light (35-95) and all I can say is wow. Why didn't I do this years ago?!?!?
16.
Ah, the advert says acoustic and didn't see it. Sorry for the confusion.
'tis OK. A very good point. I've added photos and changed the title of the listing. Bumperoonie. Will accept trades for: Markbass Little Mark 250 head Quality hardware for 4 string basses, inc. pickups, bridges, tuners Grado SR325i headphones (mega longshot!)
17. I think stain wouldnt look very good. +1 for glossy white!
18. Slimming down to one bass, I'd think about something a bit more varied than a Stingray. I mean, I love mine, but today with my soul band, i was thinking sh*t i wish i'd brought my p bass! Are you not intersted in something with more pickups, eq, coil tapping etc, with more tones availiable? could be handy. just a thought. Or if youre set on a stingray, Id say 3EQ, maybe a HS or HH setup. Bit more vairiance with tone. They are great instruments.
19. SR506 for me. I used to have a 406. If I ever saw one of those again I'd have it. Lovely bass for the money.
20. Just making a couple of sales and trades recently so thought it would be a good idea to get some kind of feedback thing going on! Cheers chaps, Karl
21. Wow! It even has the function to power other pedals like the Boss one does... I'm sorely tempted by this jsut becuse how cool it is. Its even true bypass - my guitarists favorite buzz word! He'd be well jealous. If only I could justify replacing my TU2.
