5.
What are they like for funk sounds? I play a lot of fingerstyle and slap and wonder how the F1 or F500 would cope with this? I don't like Mark Bass cabs - too wooly and not enough definition for me but I did hear some MB heads through various cabs at Bass Direct a while ago and have to say that I was pretty impressed! Enough to consider changing from my Aggie AG500SC. Nothing wrong with this head but I just think it runs out of steam a bit when working the GS112. Now I could take both the Epi and Aggie cabs out and it would probably be fine but I do like the size of the 112 and when you are going through a PA there is no need for a huge backline anyway. The size and weight of the MB heads is very appealing right now - could walk to a gig with all my gear in two hands easily.
I think where it really shines through is with funky fingerstyle, aggressive pick playing and a good old bit of slap. The sound is so percussive from the head. If a detailed, bright, snappy and controlled sound is your thing, then I don't think there is much not to like about the F1.
6.
Ps. does it come with the matching bin?
The bin would be a deal breaker for me.
7. I've been looking at getting a Lakland DJ4. They are absoloutly lovely. Its all the looks for me though. Size is nice too. But as far as playability goes, I can play the same stuff on a Fender J... Makes me wonder though, what makes a Sadowsky, Lakland, Celinder, KSDesign etc the bass you want or own over a normal Fender? Some Fender clones I see are almost identical to a genuine article!
8.
I've got an F500 and it is a great 'hi-fi' amp. I prefer the TA501 as the valve compressor sweetens the sound, which I guess is my preference. But it's great having the choice. I'm just gobsmacked that they can build something so powerful and great sounding so small, yet with such a solid feel to the whole package. I was thinking it would be great if someone designed a scaled down rack unit to house these and the newer crop of small heads in.
Prepare youself for this... 9. You'd be supprised how many people actually screw up the groove on Mustang Sally. Wost song I have ever had to play was a Kings Of Leon one... er... Fans! That's it! If you've never heard it then prepare yourself for this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1hgRDRc3ug
10.
ooo great! I use a stingray 3Eq too, and my F1 and GS112 are on order! Snap!
You are going to LOVE it I can tell you! Only downside I've found is that really it needs ever so slightly taller feet, as if you put the Aggie on its side, the handle is a smidge to bulky to put the F1 on top. I think its literally 2mm though. I do have another GS112, but its off for repair with the Bassmerchant. I should really ring them to see how its going, but I have no money left now after my mini decided to eat its clutch, and they might want me to pay them some money... And yeah I believe the F500 is the same bar the mute and the DI thingy and such. Identical sound apparently.
11. These really are great basses. I fell in love with the 4 string version some years back, but couldn't afford it. At this price it is an absoloute steal!
12. Scratches and dents don't bother me. Same with repairs - as long as they are done propperly. I have brought second hand basses before that have been in fair condition other than being really REALLY dirty - and I can't stand that. Fingerboard gunk from MY fingers/use is fine. But someone elses skinflakes...
13. Replaced my LMII with an F1 head the other week, just for the shear hell of it - and I am SO glad I did. After what I had read people say about the difference, I wasn't really expecting a lot in the realms of tone. I was looking forward to the smaller size though. What I got was totally unexpected. The overall "fidelity" of this head is amazing. There is so much rich detail availiable, even at high volumes. The punch is awesome (slap sounds epic!) and the bottom end seems to extend further than it did on my LMII. I think the feeling of bottom end extension comes from how tight and focused the bass frequancies are. I rarely ever touched the bass knob on my LMII as it would just seem too bassy too quickly, but not the case with the F1. I have just been using a 3EQ Stingray and a GS112 with it and a clean signal, so maybe this combination lends itself better to finding the vast difference between the LMII and the F1, but I feel that there is a lot more to be said about this head than that has been said... In a rehearsal today, playing the Jam, Stones, Beatles, Slade, Clash, Chili Peppers, James (pub stuff) I could hear myself better in the mix and at LOWER volumes (I say lower, I mean knob positions compared to how I used to set the LMII - but these heads are the same output... so I guess it is lower) than I could before. They rock. Like loads and loads. I can't wait to pair it with my other GS112 and go gigging! Karl
14. Really, I would like to retain the acoustic bass sound from bronze strings. The Thomastiks are 60 quid though for a 6 string set, which is the only way I can see to get a hight C.
15. Brought a Markbass F1 head off Paul. It arrived quickly, was packaged really well and is in really good condition. I highly recommend him! Karl
16.
They do? I didnt know that, thanks for the info!
Yeah, I've just put 2 from a 4 string warwick into a 5-string peavey. If you look on the warwick website it says on there. I wish I had the money for that neck!
17. Worth mentioning these pups work for 4 and 5 string...

19. Nooooooooooooooo! Why do 506's ALWAYS come up when I can't afford them?! They really are amazing. Someone will be getting a truly great bass.
20. And here's me thinking that two GS112's is a bit excessive when playing in my 10-piece soul band! Although, I have personally always wanted to do the dual setup thing. Have been toying with the idea of experimenting running a split of my signal through a high-pass filter to a distorted guitar amp and possibly a POG or some sort of harmonizer type thingy to bulk up the sound on certain songs in my 3 piece pub band... Its VERY tempting to give it a go.
21. Mine does not come with a case, but I know 100% that you can get them, as I have seen someone gigging in my local area with the same bass and in a hardcase. I have been keeping it in an acoustic guitar soft bag that I have, and it almost fits in there. The body fits perfectly, but the headstock pokes out the top a little (only the top tuners though!) so I reckon a bigger acoustic case could do the job! I'd offer you that case, but it was quite expensive, and I use it to take my 6-string to practices. Glad to hear you are liking the idea though! Do it! You know you want to.
