1. Unfortunately shipping costs from here are astronomical, whereas I've got a big baggage allowance I won't manage to fill. Hard case it is.
2. Down here in NZ we didn't get live music back at all until we dropped all the way to level 1 (essentially normality). We've since gone back up to level 2 (social distancing 1m+, table service in bars, no crowds over 100 at all) and only seated gigs are going ahead, at much reduced capacity. Been quite a change considering that for the 3 months at level 1 we were back in nightclubs, gigs, big sporting events.
3. Sound advice all, thanks. @Lozz196 I hadn't actually considered selling the case at the other end but that could well be a winning idea.
4. So, I'm currently based in New Zealand but am returning to the UK towards the end of the year. I have a very cheap acoustic bass out here that does now have some sentimental value to me. I've got plenty of luggage allowance, but currently no case, which brings me to the point. Would I be mad to try and fly with anything other than a full hard case? Acoustic bass cases seem to be quite hard to come by out here, would attempting to cardboard box or use a padded soft bag be a false economy? I suspect it might be...
5. I'm a big fan of the "this isn't how they say to do it but it's how I do it" explanations.
6. Anderson .Paak is the truth. First came across him on the last Dre album - him on Animals was one of the standout tracks.
7. The Weeknd's first three mixtapes are absolutely outstanding. He's had some standout tracks since too - The HIlls and Starboy for me especially.
8. Bass and amp wise I'm actually reasonably happy. I would like to spend some time messing about with pedals and that this year though...
9. Wu Tang Clan - Wu Tang Clan Ain't Nuthing To F Wit, Wu Tang: 7th Chamber (parts I and II), Wu Tang Forever...
10. Just got in from Chance The Rapper at Brixton Academy. Put on a great show, no bass though.
11. Ooh, I don't know if they're well known enough but The Kills?
12. Alanis Morissette - You Oughta Know, Natalie Imbruglia - Big Mistake, Republica- Ready To Go.
13. Bit late, but I was at Seasick Steve at Wembley. Not a fan per se - I vividly remember being blown away by his very first Jools appearance but hadn't listened to any and was offered a ticket last minute. Loved it, just him and a drummer for the most part, the sound he got out of his guitars was incredible.
14. Does it still count if played through effect etc? I mean, both Royal Blood and DFA79 are led by bass, but heavily distorted.
15. Singing. Preferably while playing the bass.
16. Have to say I think it's out of order that the landlady didn't discuss with you when you got there if she was who you'd dealt with. Also, you'd think that they'd have been aware of both events a bit further in advance and would have planned for the eventuality...
17. As with Stylon up the page I am the worst at spending money. Music wise I've never spent more than £50 on any one item, but they fortunately all keep me entertained. I'm awful at getting rid of stuff though so give it a few years and I'll have spent thousands of pounds on a room full of cheap and knackered basses.
18.
In our old gits five-some, I play rhythm guitar, alto sax and tenor sax.
All at once?
19. I love Regatta, such a great album. His ability to play and sing is incredible.
20. I thought the first one was funny, not sure how self aware the author is though...
21. Yet another right-playing (wrong-playing?) leftie. From the very first time picking up a guitar it just felt weird the other way. Makes it cheaper and easier too. I did try playing a left handed bass the other week and it was just all wrong.
22. Like others I only know him through FlyLo and Kendrick, definitely a fan. Pretty sure he's fairly prominently featured on the Captain Murphy (Flying Lotus' rap persona) album but I may be mistaken.
23. Have to say I must have completely overlooked the laat album, will correct that this week. Travelling remains one of my favourites, some absolute crackers on there.
24.
Good for Steeley Dan stuff apparentlry....
And that one T.Rex song...
