Hi there, newbie Basschatter here. I have a problem with my MB Little Mark II, and I hope it's a small one. In order to define whether that's the case, I need some advice, so thanks in advance to everyone who helps. I have this amp for around 5 years now. Yesterday, while playing a gig in Camden the power went out onstage. It was down for about two minutes and then the owner pulled a plug somewhere and everyone's amps came back to life... except mine of course. So I played DI and back home opened the fuse box to find out the fuse is black inside. I switched to the replaceble one (it was there since I bought the amp) - switched on and... a small "click" sound was heard and the amp would not switch on. The second fuse was dead as well. I bought another fuse, a slow-burning one (or however they're called) and tried the same thing - this time nothing happens. At all! No sound, no lights, no fan. Tried with different cable and the same. The fuse dows seems intact now. So, my question is, am I completely screwed and should find a nice vase to put on top of the MB, or should I fix it (if the price is not completely bonkers)? If so, do you know any MB repairman around central-north London? (also, one zipper of the MB case broke before the show. It's completely irrelevant but c'mon world, find someone else to kick around! I'm a good person, leave my good karma alone!) Thanks again.
Just check also if there is a fuse inside the actual amp itself. Don't know how this may help if that IS blown as well. It sounds like there may have been a big power surge down the line. Maybe use one of those trip plugs next time there?

Excellent dealings with BassVentura this week, monies transferred very quick and even better, the P.O. reciprocated by delivering the amp to him within 24 hours. Good all round stuff!

PEAVEY 15" SUB BASS Cabinet
mybass replied to mybass's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
I have one Peavey sub speaker cabinet which houses a 15" / 8 ohms Peavey speaker with its own built in crossover / frequency of 140hz, (so it could be hooked in line with other speakers without having to use an external crossover). Very lightweight cabinet, easy to carry about. Only used 2/3 times by the band over the last couple of years to give a bit more 'extra' weight to a small PA. Great addition to have and we never really had to use much volume from it to get a fuller sound. Still got the original box for it. The cab itself is in very good condition. £100
Bump -
Sorted ok?
Yes sorted and many thanks for your input....
I take it the cabs are lying horizontally? Have you tried them vertically & does it have the same issue? It does seem rather odd.
tested them again today with a 4x10 as well. Needs the volume up a bit (!) to get the top end /horn to 'show', all very subtle but effective.
-
Do the cabs have a dial on the side/back?
yes, the usual dials on each cab... turned full off then full on, the treble only appears to emanate off the right hand speaker.
I have both Markbass 2x10 HF and 2x10 Traveller cabs. The HF being a more recent addition, I checked it out on a gig and at home. (Facing the cabinet), when the horn 'level' is turned right around/up, it appears to add more top to the right hand speaker itself but doesn't affect the left hand speaker. The horn itself didn't appear to alter or actually give off extra top. This also occurs with the Traveller cab? Any prognosis appreciated.
Thanks chaps but........ The actual problem is that the horn does not appear to project the treble/top in either cab (different types of horns I know), it appears to radiate only from the right speaker in both cabs (looking at cab) and definitely not the left speaker. Thats my conundrum.

I have an 'Elites' Stainless Steel and an 'Elites' Nickel plated roundwound, both are E string / .100 gauge free but for the postage.........
-
Found lurking in the string box. A set of GIBSON POW•R•BASS nickel plated steel roundwounds, gauge of .045 / .065 / .085 / .100 The E string packet has written on it "fitted but unused for playing" so it is probable that I decided at the last minute to try another make of strings. There are also spare Gibson A / D / G strings to go with the set £8 for all the seven Gibson strings includes UK postage.
Bit of a bass clearout going on sees this bass from my 'workshop' for sale. 4 string fretless with a 5 piece Wenge/Maple (slight figured) neck. Macassar ebony fingerboard. Lovely USA Black Walnut facing on top of a very nice 2 piece mahogany back. Seymour Duncan Humbuckers......volume /tone/balance controls sitting on a top facing (what was that wood?) control plate. 3 large strap holders. 'Tru oil' finish looks very nice on this wood combination. Comes with a dedicated (Warwick) headless bass gig bag. The 'licensed' tuning system was bought as a 'seconds' unit but is in very nice condition. I designed and built this a few years ago and have only ever used it for one gig (in Italy) where it performed great, creating a big sound through a rather large Hartke rig. It has since sat indoors unused. I would be happy to let it go for £750. Mp3 recording is the bass plugged straight into a desk for each pickup and combined pickup sound, no effect/compressor used, so this is not the bass sound through a speaker/amp set up.
bump

I had problems uploading new pics and found an earlier post about this..... It appears I may have reached my 'quota' allowed of pics etc on Basschat and needed to delete old posts before uploading new information and pics... 1/ Click/open your Basschat name top right 2/ Open 'My Profile' 3/ Open the tab for "Edit My Profile' (on the right) 4/Open 'Manage My Attachments' (on the left) This will (should!) open up all you listed past posts where you can tick the right side boxes and delete any old unwanted posts/pics.

Bit of a bass clearout going on sees this bass from my 'workshop' for sale. Mp3 recording is the bass plugged straight into a desk for each pickup and combined pickup sound, no effect/compressor used, so this is not the bass sound through a speaker/amp set up.
Hi, I'm getting increasingly weary of the hum coming from my pickups on my Jazz bass when playing with the volume controls set to different positions. I'm considering upgrading to new pickups, preferably with master volume/blend/tone rather than front vol/back vol/tone. Any recommendations? Or should I be considering a decent shielding job instead? (again recommendations welcome) Thanks!
www.delano.de Delano have a decent range and blend/tone/volume controls in their wiring... Nordstrand seem to be favoured by many, or Seymour Duncans or Bartolini....

Thanks all..one company contact made and some cheeky asides about drummers! The screen would be for a guitar cabinet mainly but Matt P's thoughts could be very relevant for smaller gigs with brick wall stage surround (e.g. Farnham Maltings, terrible onstage sound for bands). I recently saw Eric Johnson ion his European tour using a homemade type 'baffle' that looked like a hinged and carpeted screen, so if carpet is good enough for Eric, then I'm sure he has looked at all options available.
-
This may be a silly question.... Drummers are loud, put a screen round them and mic them up. they can play like Keith Moon and not drown out everyone else Valve bass amps sound better louder, run them somewhere with screens at the front (and back?) and mic them to get the fully saturated valve guitar sounds. A bass amp... in most cases not so volume dependent.... why not just turn it down?
The question was for a 'guitar shield'..I would never use a bass one !
Hi I'll be having a good clearout in the next few days and wondered if anyone would be interested in what i have for sale I'll start the list with the few things i can remember and update as i find more workshop treasure! 1x musicman 4 string pickup! bought new from musicground, Leeds 8 years ago for £60! i was told it was the real deal but who knows? i never installed it and has been sat in a draw all this time! Your's for £25 posted 1x set of Covered jazz bass pickups from my old Yamaha BBG4 Covers are a little worn so £15 posted is fine for these. 1x Stew Mac "Jaws" fret press device! http://www.stewmac.c...Press/Jaws.html this is one very clever tool! it's very easy to use and comes with all the popular radius cauls (7.5, 9, 10, 12, 16) it gives a much more even finish than hammering frets in and doesn't mark or damage the frets like hammering can sometimes do. this setup cost over £150 before shipping and duty / VAT. Yours for £80 posted 1x loaded squire strat scratchplate! white plate with 3 original squire pickups installed. (no pots / knobs included) looks wise, this has seen better days but it all works fine and could be of some use for a project / spares. yours for £20 posted Paypal or bank transfer is fine. i ship first class post or Fedex next day. i will update items as i find them and add pictures too when i get chance Cheers Chris 07974 317284
PM'd -
Out of interest I was trying to find if there are perspex type guitar speaker noise 'guards' available but no luck. Anyone know where I could get info on them please? These are the clear 'shields' placed in front of speakers, around drum kits etc on stage (and studio) to cut onstage levels from hitting the front row of the punters but allow the player to have their amp settings as per usual.
