  1. Lovely, lovely floor based 2 channel preamp. Really nice, as in proper studio grade, mic preamp. Two fully discreet XLR DIs and jack out to amp. It buffers piezos better than anything I have tried. The eq is powerful. The hpf works like a dream. If it is all that then why am I selling? I am just not using it as my gigs have changed and I could spend the money on something else exciting. There is nothing on my shopping list at the moment but I like to be ready when the next adventure is GO!
  2. I am too embarrassed to go through a list of all the amps I've loved before, that travelled in and out my door....... The Quilter amp seems to be getting a lot of love. People are using them to drive Greenboy cabs which can take GOBS of power. Small and powerful. Either take your whole rig to somewhere that stocks them, find a second hand one or buy one on distance selling and mess with it at home/rehearsal and then decide. Other amps are available. Perhaps borrowing a PA power amp and rehearsing with it would let you experience increased headroom before shelling out any £. Making decisions without shelling out £ is my favourite thing. Apart from cake, obviously.
  3. It is headroom. It sounds as if you are getting the volume you need. Re-eqing (it's a word now) will give you more headroom. Perhaps using a high pass filter. But it is the power section of your amp TRYING AS HARD AS IT CAN!!!!!!! And sadly 500w is usually only half the story. I have a/b/c 'd amps, all 500w and they were not all equal. HEADROOM is where it is at.
  4. These are the shizzle. This price is the ABSOLUTE shizzle. If it was courierable it would not even be here any more. And I do not even own an amp head. It is full of helium. It will fight with a drummer. I am a miserable git but actually LOL'ed for real when I picked one up. Someone do the right thing, buy it and put me out of my misery.
  5. Obv a complete lightweight
  6. I have not read the whole thread, but there are few games better than ebay roulette.
  7. The thrill of the chase!
  8. Don't be standing in the way of the creative flow! I have a bass ready and waiting for it. I wonder if I could put a series parallel switch in there as well for another flavour? This bass was very close to going active bit this seems more fun. @KiOgon, obviously whenever there is a question mark that is directed at you! The bass at the moment has a vol and a tone and a 3 position toggle for neck/both/bridge. It also has 2 DFA knobs to fill holes that were there before it turned into my bass and a mini toggle which also does nothing. How about vol/tone/G&L magic/series parallel all on knobs and pickup selection on a 3 way toggle?
  9. I KNEW Kiogon would know!
  10. Thanks BB, I was just transcribing what Ed Friedland said here. I am dangerously clueless in these matters.
  11. So, the LukeFRC's L1000 I played in the Bassbash has all the usual G&L action going on. One switch was the so called OMG mode. This involves (apparently) putting a capicitor across one of the coils which cuts the treble so there is a percieved bass boost. It was an attractive noise. Would this be doable on a Jazz? TIA
  12. I used to own a Bravewood. I also own a 66 J. The Bravewood scratched exactly the same itch. It also taught me that P nut width is for me. But that was not the fault of the Bravewood.

  17. I keep going on about these. The only bass I have tried where the Piezo pickup actually does what you hope it does. Lovely open and rich sound. But I am just not playing it. Life is too short for wall hangings. A 35" scale lightweight bundle of joy. EMG pickup with Vol, bass, treble and sweepable mids. Also Piezo vol and tone control. Pics this evening.
  18. I hate it when that happens
  19. Very stupid slide thing! It is actually an SKB copy, but still the same problem.
  20. Thanks, but sadly they are not your bog standard caged nut https://www.gear4music.com/Recording-and-Computers/SKB-Rack-Mount-Hardware/YL4?origin=product-ads&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-IKszqGM4wIVbwHTCh3mtQu4EAQYAiABEgIVivD_BwE I suspect they may be M5 bolts as well.
  21. I need some new ones. I could pay £24 for 12 but that hurts. Any cheaper alternatives out there?
