It's a shame they never stuck with the original 500w version and just sorted the reliability issues, the detachable 500w head in a micro combo was a great idea IMO.

Yeah this is pretty much it really, I use in ears live but I still take my micro head to rehearsals for convenience along with a Speakon to jack cable so I can plug into anything with just that one cable. I had to replace the speakon in the amp with a combi socket but it was worth it as I have everything I need in a single box. Besides, look what the bloody Gnome cabs have, Bax are even doing a package deal with the Gnome head and a Speakon cable, somebody is going to be disappointed on Christmas day! Might just be getting stubborn and lazy in my old age but I don't really want to faff about with extra cables or adapters, besides the accessory pockets in my gigbags are already full of stuff anyway!

It's more just a "why do bass amps still have just 1/4" jacks in 2021" thing tbh, especially as it does lok like there's room for a Speakon in both of those. Maybe it's not just the cost saving of the 1/4" jack itself but also cheaper for it as much to be surface mount as possible. I can imagine if margins are tight then it might not be viable for a daughter board or soldering wires. I'd happily pay £10 more for that capability though.

Not really, the descriptions are massively prone to hyperbole. Once he described one of his old P copies as being suitable for pro players when in the accompanying video it had an extreme grounding issue, similarly one of his acoustics was described as having the perfect setup but the video revealed fret buzz up most of the neck. These are the ones that actually featured the listed guitar in the videos, usually they aren't the same instrument - the famous Night in Langney bass is in most of them! I suppose you can only guage the accuracy if you have the instrument in your hands but those videos revealed some serious issues, no way were either of those two I mentioned suitable for any sort of live use. With the Grabber one I mentioned above he avoided showing the neck join, from memory he had bolted a neck with a slanted heel onto an old Kay body which had a regular neck pocket, the pictures only show you what he wants to reveal.

The cut and shut one with the Grabber/Ripper copy body still takes the top spot for me.

This is the thing that niggles me on all these nano heads, turned down an Elf locally for a bargain price because of it. They could easily put a Speakon combi socket in there.

Promethean combo (the later 300w version, not the original one) in the classifieds for £150: Small enough to be a home practice amp but also much more capable.

There's photos of the BAM200 guts elsewhere on here: Would be interesting to see how similar the Gnome is, the control layout is identical although the LEDs are positioned differently.

Same. It's the bidders who get caught in a frenzy during the last few seconds that complain all the true bargains have disappeared. Best way to eBay is to spray and pray with low bids or keep refreshing the newly listed BIN. -
Just seemed a little worrying to me as the other cabs in the series have more conventional frequency ranges. Been thinking about a second 1x10 to partner with my EA cab and these have Speakons and also a daisy chain output unlike the Eden I was considering.

The Gnome 1x10 lists the frequency range from 90hz though, would this be useful for bass?

The EMG Select J pickups you get in those old Cort builds (they're licensed in house pickups, not real EMGs) are a bit puny and wet sounding, also usually coupled with a pretty naff sounding preamp. Barts are a huge upgrade, can get pretty trad Jazz sounds out of them. Aquilar are also bar magnets underneath the covers I think, again would knock the Selects out of the park. The Select P pickups are quite decent though IMO, I've actually put those in basses I like to play rather than taken them out as with the J pickups!

Could just try rail pickups instead of ones with individual pole pieces? I think Bartolinis and some EMGs are rails under the covers.

Had this hanging around and it's about to go in the bin so if anybody wants this then give me a shout. It's a cheapo 10w Kinsman BB10BS amp section taken from a damaged learner combo, I turned it into a mini head after selling all my amps and used it with a small EA 110 cab, sounded surprisingly splendid although the cab was probably doing most of the legwork. Original salvage thread here: It currently has no case other than the original metal shell and an acrylic top (the rest went in the bin) so you will need to house it, also no IEC socket as I used this elsewhere. I removed the Speakon combo jack but have since replaced it with a regular Speakon I had lying around, the pics were taken before I installed this. So put an IEC socket and build a shell for it and it's ready to go. I also have a bag with the feet, ferrules and a handle from the original combo if you need those. Collection from the Fylde Coast (FY5) or can post if you chuck a few quid in the next Brian House box you see.

Used to gig UK and German made basses exclusively and a Gibson before that, also a Warmoth USA fretless. All through USA Hartke cabs, later through USA Schroeder and finally all Italian Markbass gear. All Indonesia/China/Korea now aside from my little EA cab which is USA.

Probably easiest to run a line out or DI out from the bass amp into a small desk and feed that to your in ear pack, in a pinch you could run it straight from the DI to the belt pack. Realistically if you're looking to use a single in ear then it won't help much as the outside noise cancellation is a big part of the experience (for me anyway), probably best seeing if you can set up a small powered monitor or something.

Well there are dedicated powered wedges marketed as FRFR like the Headrush and similar cabs so it's a more popular term now., the QSC K .2 series have a high impedance input option and presets for use with instruments so it's a market they recognise. But yeah I take it to mean someone who uses a powered PA wedge as their sound comes from a preamp or modelling unit, they want to hear that without any amp or cab colouring.

FWIW towards the end of my short but sweet period of using an FRFR I was using it entirely as a wedge with vocals, keys and bass through it, half the band were already on IEMS at that point but the guitarist still used an amp. We used to take a separate monitor for me and the drummer anyway so just ditched that and put them through mine. At that point I tried IEMs using the provided equipment (cheap headphone amplifiers, normal ear buds and having no direct control over the mix) and hated it which from some of the comments here seems like a common theme. When I bought the Behringer/KZ kit and an ancient £25 iPad Mini 1 (our desk back then was Apple only 😒) it transformed the experience and I haven't used an amp live since. I think control is the key to having a good beginner IEM experience, especially if you don't have a dedicated sound engineer to shout stuff at.

Just using the BC cheapskate setup of a Behringer PM2 belt pack and KZ ZS10 IEMs. cost is about £50-£60. I DI from a Fishman Platinum Pro which is has everything I need, I have a small clamp on shelf to store the IEM setup and a tablet holder which are both permanently attached to my Hercules stand, that's it for my gigging setup. The desk we have now is a Behringer XR18 which are usually £480-£500, the old desk we had was a Mackie DL32r which is more than double that but has enough aux sends for stereo monitoring for 6 people.

Using IEMs exclusively now and not going back. Great sound every gig and I have instant control over every aspect of it. All of this fits in my gigbag and takes zero space on stage.
