1. I don't see why it wouldn't work, tbh i was a bit gutted when i opened the box to see my Gramma. It definitely doesn't look like £50 well spent although it does work well If you like i can take some pictures of mine tomorrow and upload them to give you a better idea of what they look like, although it would be incredibly easy to knock one up. It's basically a carpet-covered board on 2 bits of foam with another bit of foam inbetween those I'm thinking about making one and flogging mine really, i think it's a bit cheeky charging that much for them
2.
It's only Speakon and don't like the tone of the amp so I'll let someone else do it. I think it may be 250W on each side @ 8 OHMs I should have the email from the guy who sold it to me. Wait up.
The jack connector is the hole inside the speakon connector, i didn't realise it was there until i read the manual! Pretty neat way of doing things
3. If one side works then isn't it 250w @ 4ohms or about 175w @ 8ohms? They're two seperate power amp sections i think EDIT: Also have you checked the speakon and the jack connectors on this to see if both are duff?
4. Excellent price, these usually go for £100 fully working.
5.
the tuners do say west germany. Could it be 95? hmmm Ovangkol neck, Thought Fortresses were Wenge? Puzzling. The cuts on the body near the neck are strange. Could it be a replaced broken neck and refinish?
They did make them with Ovangkol necks, and there's one or two with maple necks too. The grooves near the neck are also on some other Fortresses, the one in the link i posted is a '93 and that has them. I had a looksee on the Warwick forum and a few there have Ovangkol necks and at least one other has the grooves near the neck Apart from the date it seems to be normal, everything else on the neck points to before they were discontinued
6. I'll have to re-learn it, but then i do like sweets!
7.
.....I aways listen to i can dig it baby by little beaver it was jacos first session and is one of the sleaziest smooth bass lines i have ever heard, wish i could play it.
Brilliant bassline, in f# or something? Been ages since i've played it
8.
the tuners say 'west germany' on them which would suggest that them, like the nut, are older?
Yeah that's one of the reasnos it's so confusing! Post-Fortress Warwicks just said Germany on the machine heads A guy on the Warwick forum said they had a stock of parts from when they were discontinued and they eBayed a few around 2006 so it might be one of those. A new/old stock type of deal, that's probably a better explanation. Like i said, it's definitely a Fortress neck due to the neck bolt configuration
9. The grooves near the neck are a feature of some Fortresses, i think the early ones (this is a '94 i think, well the body is!): http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=h...t%3D36%26um%3D1 I have since put the truss rod cover the right way round too . I've not had the bass long so i only discovered it was upside down yesterday! I know Warwick made the Fortress with Ovangkol necks as well as the more popular Wenge, also i have heard of them using a 3 piece maple neck on the German ones too. I posted on the Warwick forum and it's either: -A custom order made from old parts. However this wouldn't explain adjustable the brass nut unless that was lying around too. The only custom Fortresses on the Warwick site both have the Just-a-nut - An original body with a replacement neck. Still doesn't explain the nut unless Warwick were kind enough to take it off the old neck, or again it was lying around I suppose it's unlikely that there was an error when the serial was being stamped, giving an 0 instead of a 9? It's been confusing me all weekend!
10. Some pics up if anyone can shed any light on the neck wood. It's darker than the Ovangkol on my Corvette but nothing like the Wenge on the fingerboard
11. Leave it, it's relic'd! Whack it one eBay for £2,000 more than it's worth!
12.
strange. can we see pictures of this lovely bass, ive always liked the fortress shape
Yeah i keep meaning to get some up but my missus keeps forgetting her camera! I'll get some tomorrow I'm not actually too bothered if this isn't an original neck as i got the bass very cheaply, just a bit curious!
13. There's no takers on this now so it's available
14. Cheers, the serial number search doesn't turn up any results though. Maybe best to email Warwick on this one i think I took the neck off and there's no other holes in the heel so i'm stumped. The neck couldn't be off a Corvette as i compared it with mine and the screw holes are in differently places Weird! And before anyone asks, no i haven't mistaken the 05 for a 95! (although that does sound like something i'd do)
15. I'm a bit confused regarding the serial number on my Warwick Fortress One. I always understood that the last 2 numbers indicate the year of manufacture and the letter indicates the month. My Fortress has B and 05, indicating February 2005, however i thought Fortress were discontinued long before then? It was sold as a 90s model and i've never checked it. It has the Fortress Truss rod cover and the adjustable brass nut so i assumed it was all original, however i am now thinking it may be a different neck on the original body What do we think?
16. I think it's gone now matey, just sorting out payment. If not i'll mention it in the thread
17. Shipping would only be £8! I think it's gone now anyways Ta Steve
18. Good stuff! Forgot to mention that the strings will probably need replacing as they're not the brightest, at least not to my taste. They're all there though and it still sounds good Ta Steve
19. Aye i thought it'd be Bubinga, wasn't sure if they made the early ones out of something different. As for the price, i'm just passing on the love! I got it cheap so i'm selling it cheap! Ammended to V950B!
20. Hi I bought this recently to see if i liked it as i'd always liked the 4 string version. I do like it but can't justify keeping it so it has to go. It was sold as an Encore mahogany bodied bass, however it's actually a Vintage V940, the early version with gold hardware. It needed a good clean and some work and parts but it's come up really nice, the only things i'd mention are: - Buckle rash on the back - One of the retainer screws on the bridge doesn't match the others - The neck bolts aren't original - It may need a new battery connector wiring if it's gonna see heavy use (cost pennies) - The clip on the battery box doesn't spring back (still secure though, you just have to push it back. A new battery box is around £5 - £6 but this one works fine) That's all i can think of I bought this bass for £50, with delivery and parts it owes me around £65 so i'd like this back. No offers unless they're more than £65! I'll ship it with any courier you like, i usually use Interparcel as they're only around £8, so you could have this delivered for £73 I'm near Blackpool if anyone fancies trying it out
21. Senditnow will ship boxes for around £8, they use UPS. Use their economy service, last time i used them the bass arrived the next day If you can ship and fancy a px on a Vintage V940 bass with cash your way then i'l interested too!
22.
I do like this jazz...but I'm put off by the fact that the back pick up sound doesn't sound like a jazz...I think you said it had more of a precision type tone....that's a shame.
It does sound like a Jazz, just a bit darker with a bit more thud available. Roll off a bit of the neck pickup and you're in Jazz territory, roll off the bridge a little and knock the tone back and it does a great P impression. It can't quite do the nasal tone you can get out of a jazz, although with a more versitile eq you could probably get it. It does sound smoother than the Jazzes i've had, which i preferred for fretless. It's not the sort of active tone that jumps out at you with sizzling highs, it just sounds like a beefed up passive bass, which again i like on fretless I guess it's probably due to the woods and the basic tone control, there's a nice big control cavity on the back in case you wanted to add a different eq
23. How much for the Toby 4?
24. A total steal too, was having a think about that one but managed to restrain myself! I'm happy for you but more than a little jealous!
25. Not used those ones but i have played the Cheetah/Johnny Brook branded ones that Crack Converters sell, they were £4 when i got em but they're £6 now i think Was really impressed, a bit rough but they sounded better than the Hartke strings i took off that bass. I use these on my backup bass and they do their job
