1.
a Zon Sonus 8 string is still on my list Just been listening to Faith No More from this year's download and I need a Zon like Billy Gould's - what a sound. It won't fit in with the sound of the wedding band but f@@k it
Every time i watch FNM vids i GAS for a Zon. Billy Gould has an incredible tone, even if he is looking more like Bill Oddie these days
2. Just noticed the reflection in that last photo. Is that a massive blonde affro you're sporting?
3. Bought a nice Levys strap from Legion for my new Warwick. Cheers bud!
4. I had the Shine badged version of this bass, astounding value for money. I was totally surprised at just how good it was, a great intro to six strings and totally giggable
5.
The single-stage FET buffer is very easy to throw up. And it would easily fit inside pretty much any control cavity. I'll try to remember snapping some photos of mine next time I'm able. Should be in about ten days.
Excellent, cheers dude!
6. I've just bought the natural 5 string version of that bass for £50, looking forward to receiving it as the 4 string version of it was great There's nothing worse than a brand snob, most basses these days are very well put together and are well up to gigging. Plus there's something cool about finding a great cheapo bass!
7. Ah, good work! And loft basses do actually exist!
8.
Whooooosh! Dibs, please.
Ok, 1st dibs it is! It was listed as a mahogany bass, . However it's one of the earlier Vintage ones with gold hardware and i presume a 2-band active eq. presume it's bubinga bodied as the photos were a bit poo. The seller also thought it was an Encore even though it says "Vintage" in big letters on the headstock!
9. Should have posted this here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=delivery Would have arrived by now!
10. I've just picked up a Vintage bubinga bodied 5er for £50 + £8 delivery, been trying to fing a 5er that i like the sound, feel and look of for a while If this doesn't fit the bill i'll pass it on at £58 + p+p to anyone who wants it I remember when i was at uni in Sheffield, i saw a new 5 string Stingray in natural for just over £500. The local music shop was closing down and there were bargains galore. My mate got a nice cheapy acoustic for £30. I remember having spent all my money of my course books and a memory upgrade for my laptop, when the next installment of my loan came through the bass was predictably gone
11.
1978 USA B.C.Rich Mockingbird bass,used in a Thin Lizzy Video,cost me £0 1981 USA B.C.Rich Mockingbird bass cost me £0 1960's Hagstrom bass cost me £0 1980's USA B.C.Rich Gunslinger bass,my cost on it £25
How did you wrangle these? Tell me via PM if necessary!
12. Joe bought my Pickle Pie, again great guy to deal with
13.
I've just snapped up an Epiphone Les Paul bass on EBay for £80 that was only listed 35mins previously and looks immaculate in the detailed photos. I should probably reserve judgement until it arrives but in principle it's a bit of a steal.
I was looking at that one, looked really nice in the tobacco burst. Think the postage was around a tenner too so that's a lot of bass for the money
14. Don't see many of these, one of those basses i've always admired wanted to play Check out the craftmansip on this one, proper bass! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Renaissance-Semi-Aco...id=p3286.c0.m14
15. FWIW i played one of those Ps the other night, loads of decent beefy sounds to be had just from the blend knob. The one i tried had crackly pots and a noisy pre (it was ex demo, the guy paid £435 if memory serves) so it was a bit off-putting but i was still very impressed. It was a slap monster and had a very assertive fingerstyle sound, i'd gig it any day I'd love to try one that didn't have the faults that one had, although i'd probably end up buying it! I think P + J is my new favourite pickup configuration
16. Makes you wonder just what the Crack Converters stores actually pay for these basses if they're still making a profit, makes me shudder just thinking about it! I'm going to stop reading this thread now as i can feel the first wave of jealousy coming on...
17. I've been on at our drummer for ages to buy a quiter kit. He uses an old Premier kit which rarely needs micing up in pubs, i think if he got something that was designed after the invention of drum mics then our problems would be solved. He always complains that he can't hear the bass, play quieter then!
18.
And the buffer is needed for impedance matching only - the levels are often very close to the magnetics (there's a lot of variation between different magnetic pickups, you know). For my Warmoth build I used a simple one-stage FET based buffer based on Don Tillman's design found here. Works great!
How difficult is that to knock up? Also will it fit inside a typical control cavity? I won't be doing it btw! I know how i'd want to incorporate the piezo in the bass, just the usual passive vol/vol/tone and a seperate volume for the piezo, i want it as simple as possible Ta Steve
19. Early example, medium scale Overwater: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Overwater-Custom-Bas...id=p3286.c0.m14 Looks basic but hey, it's an Overwater!
20. I'd just like to add that i recently bought a bass from a zero feedback seller, no pictures in the listing and a too-good-to-be-true price. Received the bass last week and it's excellent! The seller was very responsive to questions though, supplied pics and details readily In that case the seller was new to eBay and didn't think people would be wary of the auction, he was actually one of the more genuine sellers out there! RE this listing, as others have said if the seller isn't responding and you can't view the bass then it might be best to leave it unless you don't mind the risk of losing the postage fee in a Paypal claim. Also you the money would go to your Paypal account so they'd take another slice of the pie when it's transferred back to your bank. Weigh up the potential loss and decide if you wanna chance it!
21.
Fairly tempted to get htis and the fretted neck going (hence asking thickness). Would anyone be after the neck?
How much would you be wanting?
22. I'm in Cleveleys near Blackpool matey. Postage is no problem
23. BUMPAGE! No longer require a Warwick Fortress as i've bought one so just for sale now
24. This was originally mine, Dr. Dave was it's second owner. It originally had cheapy (but actually pretty good) pickups and electrics which i swapped out for USA Fender gubbins. I also added a decal but i'm not sure if Dave replaced this with a different one. It's an excellent bass especially for this price, it has bags of mwah and nails that Jaco sound. It also looks a lot more expensive than it actually is! If i had the space i'd have it back, unless someone wants to buy my Warmoth! EDIT: Oh the bass is about 3 years old btw and was £199 new (i actually chose it over more well known basses), i paid £39 for the electrics, £8 for the decal and £7 for the fender-compatible knobs (the shafts are thicker on Fender stuff). It originally had Jaco-style P-Bass knobs but i gave these away with the original electrics
25. Have a look at some match fishing holdalls, Preston Innovations do decent stuff in their Hardcase range (you might need to download the PDF): http://www.prestoninnovations.co.uk/hardcase.php I use a similar one (for fishing, not gigging!) and it's taller than me and i'm 6'5" You might have to modify the interior and i have no idea if it would be wide enough for a Palatino. They're usually divided into 2 sections. Loads of fishing shops stock Preston gear so you might be able to have a look at them before buying
