1.
I had one bass made to my custom spec's and was very dissappointed with the end result. Probably more to do with the fact that they positioned the bridge for 35" scale and set the frets for 34" and the thing wouldn't intonate until it got sorted - then they damaged the finish! Never again.......
Was that my Zoot by any chance?
 2. I like OHM
 3.
I've played a Corvette and Fortress and they were very well built and sounded great. If you're thinking of buying a new Rockbass Corvette, then you might also want to look out for a second-hand Warwick Corvette as the prices tend to be similar and you'll get much more bass for your money.
+1 on looking for a second hand German Warwick. £250 - £400 is the price the Corvettes and Fortresses go for and they're nicer basses. I have both of those basses and while i liked the Rockbasses the German ones are the ones i'd go for Ahpook's Fortress is sweet though!
 4. David is a top dude and keeps his gear in fantastic condition, BUMP for some uber cheap class A cabs!
 5.
I made a couple of 1watt all tube amps recently - more for guitar than bass, but they sound fantastic, and are plenty loud enough for practice!
They look ace, i want one!
 6.
I had an ash 5 string corvette STD, It was a great bass, just one string too many The ash ones are really light, this one should be heavier, but yeah if you can get it for £350.00 I'm officially jealous, would love to get my hands on a 4 string corvette.
Keep an eye on eBay. There's usually a few that go for sub-£400, i saw a nice battered old proline go for lower a while ago. I got my fortress for £250 and there was a stained Corvette from the same seller at £400 If i had the money i'd buy them all!
 7. £350 is a really good price, the Bubinga ones were a little bit more than the Ash. I presume it'll be the standard 2 way MEC job in there. Great basses, i gigged mine for years and still have it now
 8. So it should be, it's Faith No More FFS! Also the best name for a greatest hits album ever
 9.
The Boss LS-2 should be able to do what you look for. Alternatively, (I hope it doesn’t sound like an ad) I designed a booster specifically for absolute transparency. I can modify it to activate an external loop when the boost is not active.
I still have that Blue Dragon pedal (the one in the mini-chassis, think i bought it off you a while ago?) and it works a treat, very transparent and a handy little pedal
 10. Yeah i think that's just the volume, might be able to salvage it or buy a new one for peanuts. Good score!
 11. I'd be looking for around £400-£500 each plus expenses tbh, that's 3 days work for 16 people so they'll be expecting a large sum. If you don't ask you don't get?! We're doing a gig on the Isle of Man next year and that'll be over £1500 for a 4 piece, 2 days work
 12. That's a bargain! Looks as though the "knob" is actually a broken string tree though, probaly just screw it back in? All the knobs look to be intact, if it's like the one i used it should be volume/bass/treble. From memory it sounds pretty good, the pre is a little cheap-sounding and it doesn't feel too much like a 'Ray. But hey, £15!
 13.
I think this is where the difference is- a lot of people like (or think they like?) chopping and changing gear, whereas for Bilbo its all about the music, and the gear is very much secondary to that. To you (and a lot of other people) that is part of the fun but not necessarily everyone.
True, however i think if that Wal hadn't been available at the time then Bilbo would have gone through a few more basses in that 20-odd year gap. If he were to play a bass he preferred to his Wal today there's a chance he'd buy it I don't chop and change my rig, I've only really gigged with 2 basses and 2 amps (although the Hartke rig was upgraded gradually before i sold it). If i find something that improves my sound straight away then i think about making the purchase. The Zoot i own gives me the freedom to play different techniques live because it's a brilliantly designed and emminently playable instrument, Bilbo's Wal is in the same category so i don't think he's ever found any shortcomings in his bass which he couldn't work around with technique. It suits him down to the ground Alexclaber found several shortcomings in basses he owned, knew exactly what he wanted and took the steps to ensure he had an instrument which suited him. That's the difference between changing gear for the sake of it and upgrading because of a specific purpose. If you're amp is too quiet you get a louder one!
 14.
Hi, I'm Massimo Selvi the bass player on this vids please check this other one, it's one of my originals (I steel the 3rd phrase from a Zawinul solo on Cannonball played in Montreux back in '76) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sB1ZmgxVcM personally I feel comfortable with me, same for Julius and the other guys, so if you don't mind I keep doing music, especially my music, you can check it out at mySpace http://www.myspace.com/massimoselvi ...hope to meet some new friend(z) :-) Bye, Massimo
Nice playing bud, welcome to basschat!
 15.
Why?
I tried a few while ago, all were noisy with brittle treble, sounded like budget active electronics. I tried another recently and it was still very noisy although the bass itself sounded excellent. Maybe they've got their act together on the pre but the bass hummed very loudly
 16.
the EQ's that Fender use are dire.
+1! A happy active/passive medium would surely be high quality passive pickups with a switchable pre-amp?
 17.
There's nothing wrong with any of this. I am just trying to save people a lot of hassle chasing things thay probably already have.
Surely that's part of the fun of playing bass though? Trying new stuff out to see if you like it, if it can add something to your sound? There's 3 basses i own that i would be happy to use as my main instrument. I use the best looking and sounding one, the Zoot. It is a custom order but i bought it second hand for under £750, less than a new Fender and half the price of a new Stingray. It beats them both hands down I bought it because i had always liked the Zoot Chaser, the off-the-shelf model made by Iceni. Mine was cheaper and nicer, like buying a 2nd hand custom shop Fender over the USA Standard If i needed a new bass and had the cash i'd have no worries about ordering a Zoot or a Shuker, ACG etc. They're just superb basses, end of. The fact that i could take say a Warwick down and have the neck profile copied is icing on the cake
 18.
Always carry a spare battery but also buy a bass that can be switched to passive because your guitar player might steal your battery for his pedal because he does not follow the "always carry a spare battery" rule. My Peavey Dyna Bass is active but I play it passive all the time. It still sounds good.
+1 All my active basses can be switched into passive mode, only needed to call on it once but i was grateful it was there You don't get any tone control though as it bypasses the eq, unless the bass has a seperate passive tone pot The Aero pickups on my Zoot sound fantastic in pasive mode too
 19. This one down here \/ \/ \/ \/ \/
 20. That Warmoth looks the nuts, me likey!
 21.
MB1. I too prefer collection by the buyer or meet half way or even deliver in some cases!....1 metre drop test?..WTF? ..i wouldnt want them dropping it at all... isnt that what theyre not supposed to do?.
I remember a thread a while ago (about a damaged Ashdown cab i think) where a BCer wen't down to a courier depot and saw them throwing parcels around. It's best to be safe than sorry, i have had stuff damaged in transit but only when it hasn't been properly packed by the seller (not from here i might add) I bought a Netbook a while ago, the seller sent it in a jiffy bag. I cringed as i opened it, expecting broken glass and plastic but it was fine. 9 times out of 10 i reckon that would have been damaged though
 22. Most will insure it for the full amount as long as you pay. I think i read somewhere that some couriers insist on the package being able to withstand a 1m drop I use Interparcel who ship for £8 with £50 insurance, more if you pay extra. I've never had any problems with them. I think Porcel Farce have £150 as standard but will easily cover an expensive bass if you pay extra It'd probably work out better to get the buyer to pay £40 for a hard case instead of extra insurance though.
 23.
So did mine, due to a design flaw. The heavy aluminum external chassis is not ribbed, to act as a heat sink, but is solid, retaining heat. It also doubles the weight of the amp. I removed that, mounted the amp in a rack, added a fan and it runs cool to the touch. You'll note that the LG has abandoned the aluminum crap and added a fan.
+1 My Superfly hasn't had any cutting out problems since i removed the ugly casing. Just watch out for those sharp corners!
 24. Here's one for half the price: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Precision-Bas...id=p3286.c0.m14
 25. Or a pedal tuner, most will mute the signal when tuning. What's it like with the volume on the bass down? I assume your getting hum/hiss from the amp
