There's this one from the eBay thread: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GALLIEN-KRUEGER-2001...=item45f0ecaf96 In brighton though

May also be worth looking at a different strap design that spreads the weight evenly across your back and both shoulders, planet waves do a comfort strap: http://www.djmmusic.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=50DARE000 I also remember one a while ago that went over both shoulders and had a sort of cross brace at the back, can't for the life of me remember what it was called though EDIT: Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Slider-Straps-Should...k/dp/B0002CZSX0

Thought i'd ressurect this thread as i've recently finished my £45 Aria Jazz. Got a nice tortie plate for a tenner and stuck some better tuners on that were left over from upgrading my fretless. I wanted a Timmy C style Lakland and as the headstocks are quite similar i stuck a nice logo on there. The old one left some pale marks on the wood where it had been but i didn't want to sand it down as the wood had gone nice and orangey Gave the fretboard a clean and its come up really dark, looks nice and sounds great too
Couldn't you get something from Warmoth? Specify a light weight body (swamp ash/sugar pine/Pawlonia/basswood) and a maple neck to your size requirements? You might need a set of lightweight machines to stop neck-dive, but as it's a custom build then no probs.
Warmoth necks are always really heavy though, they have the steel support rods so this adds to the weight. With a really light body this might affect the balance of the bass, light machineheads or not. Also their Jazz necks are chunkier than what i would describe as a Jazz neck, unless they've changed them in the last year or two. Mine was spec'd as a Jazz profile but was a real handful, amazing quality though. Somtehing to bear in mind if you go down that route A guy round the corner from me has a very nice Sadowsky Metro, that was quite light (felt about half the weight of my Zoot!) and balanced well, a 5er too so i imagine a 4 would be a shade lighter EDIT for spelling
I use them. Have done for 23 years. I always use Elite Stadiums 45 - 105. Love them, great strings.
+1 These are what i've been using for years. I've never had a bad set of Elites and they're usually around £15, i've paid £30+ for strings before and got the odd duff one They are quite coarse but i find them really easy to play, great for RHCP style lines and they respond well when you dig in. They're also tough as hell

Some matchsticks will most likely fix the holes for the control plate. That's not the Jaco fretless i (and also Dr. Dave and Moosh) used to own is it? If so, nice bass! Potential bargain too. If it is the one i had then the Pickups and pots are from a USA Jazz, i imported them! What sort of trades are you looking at?

Warwick Rockbass Corvette - Very low volume
lemmywinks replied to CraigPlaysBass's topic in Bass Guitars
Didn't you say the seller had to fiddle with some wires to make it work? Maybe a simple loose connection, you can find the wiring diagram here: http://www.warwickbass.com/media/manuals/R.../SP_RB_127R.pdf -

My mistake, the passive one apparently has a 2 band setup too, weird! -

If it's the one with 4 control knobs then surely it'll be active? Therefore it's puzzling that you can't find a battery, maybe the seller had switched the original electrics out for a passive set up? -
What sort of bass is that Geoff? Looks gorgeous!
-
Get Prosebass to build you something?

There's some on eBay, not original i think: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MARKBASS-T-SHIRT-XL-...229168001r37113 EDIT: They have done em though: www.markbass.it/risorse/allegato.php?id=156

Aye i spotted that a while ago, looks really meaty!
-
If it's got 4 knobs then it's active, same electrics and pickups as the German Corvette i think I tried one before buying my Warwick and was impressed, good score for that price
-
Good deal, they sell for nearer £200 on eBay although there's the odd exception. Is it active or Passive?
Absolutely stunning! thank you very much. andy
Never thought i was much of a looker but thanks for the compliment Andy!

Jeez! If it were near me i'd buy it just for the sake of it!
I think it looks more like the body's an odd shape / oversized - it looks like there's a couple of inches of extra wood at the back & the end of the body is less elliptical than a proper J. The bridge & control plate look in the right places relative to one another. Jon.
Yeah the distances between the neck, pickups and bridge look right, look how much wood is behind the control plate compared to a normal jazz I think the all black one looks sweet

I used to break loads until i switched to Elites, they seem really durable. Hartkes are pretty tough too
-
I prefer Corvettes to Streamers! Much nicer shape IMO Have you thought about an old Thumb bass?
-
Might be worth playing a few first to see what type of board gives you that sound? The Pau Ferro one i had was very hard and durable but i didn't like it as much as the rosewood, even though that churned up easily with rounds on I've never tried a maple-boarded fretless so couldn't commet, i assume it'll mark up quite easily though? I quite like ebanol as a cheap compromise, looks great, is pretty hardwearing and gives a good mwah-type sound I bought a cheap Jaco-copy for my first fretless and loved it, maybe try a Squier VMJ or a de-fretted Jazz?

Warmoth will do one: http://www.warmoth.com/Bass/Necks/StandardNecks.aspx $180 plus shipping and tax though. Dollar is still about 62p AFAIK Fantastic quality on their stuff, it's worth every penny Rosewood is considered a bit soft for fretless although i loved it on my old bitsa. Ebony and Pau Ferro are thought of as more suitable

I know a few guys who use a bit of compression to balance out the slap tone. I use a booster pedal. I sometimes use a little one made by Silentfly and other times i use the Eq switch in my MXR M80, that has a level and 3 band eq Before i got those i used the Shape switch on my old Hartke pedal. All of those 3 pedals did the job. I notice Silentfly does a clean boost pedal now, looks like a good design, maybe have a look at that?
