1.
Pickups and preamp for my Ibanez. It has a great feel and unplugged sound, but the stock pickups and pre are a bit lame.
Got a 2 band Tonepump for £25 posted? Has bass and treble pots plus 4 black knobs I still want: Tobias through neck in natural (USA or Korean, don't care, it's all about looks!) Warwick Fortress in natural I also now want: A tiny bass cab to go with my newly stripped down Superfly head, even though i have a really good bedroom amp already A Bolin cos they look ace but can't even remotely afford one The ability to remember to take my bait with me next time i go fishing
2.
If only this was a lefty..
Never stopped Hendrix!
3.
Anyone tried the Vintage Stingray copy? I bought one locally via eBay because it was cheap and because I love the Musicman tone, and it sounds stonking to me. I'm not in a position to compare it with anything else, but I'm impressed. The finish is nothing to write home about. I can get a piece of paper in between the neck and body joint at one side. The varnish on the neck is thin and the frets are not as flush to the side of the neck as they could be. I took the top off the cover plate to tighten up the loose jack socket and discovered piles of wood shavings that hadn't been brushed out and also noticed that the earthing wire was hanging in mid air because it hadn't been soldered on. On the other hand - it's light, and it has that punchy, growly Musicman sound that I can't get out of my Yamaha BB. I find that I'm playing it more than my Yammy now, which is very strange because I've spent lots of time and effort getting my Yammy to sound just so. Comments, anyone?
I borrowed one a while ago for a dep gig, sounded nice but i didn't like the feel of the bass. I thought that there wasn't enough clearance between the body and the strings to allow me to dig in like on a proper Ray. Still i think the owner paid about £100 for so it was a steal, the citcuit was decent enough
4. Don't like tampering with this bass cos it's so pristine. I'll just take my Warwick instead
5. The polarity switch is either set to centre negative or centre positive, depending on what your pedal requires If it's a newer EHX, like a Nano etc. it will be centre negative. Most pedals are. The C shape and the dot shape represent the tip and barrell parts of the DC plug Cheapies like this one are often unregulated too, i used one at home and it played hell with a couple of my pedals. There was loads of background noise and it was unusable Dedicated guitar ones are a much better bet EDIT: From the pic the left hand setting is centre +ve, the right one is centre-ve
6. Just gone to re-string my Zoot and after taking the strings off i've noticed the one of the little retainers that slots in the back of the body to keep the string anchored is missing! Looked everywhere, no sign of it at all and i can't use the bass till i replace it. Got a gig tomorrow too!
7. EHX Electric Mistress is also the shizzle
8. Ah i thought they were some of your basses. Some stunning ones on that site though!
9.
Hmm. I've got a couple of their instrument cables but I sincerely doubt I've kept the receipt... The little bungee clip thing for coiling them up is a great idea though, that's half the reason I bought them.
I also hook it round my strap button as a shock absorber in case i tread on my lead, very handy! MB1, did you still have the receipt? One of mine failed on me a few gigs ago and i really like their cables. Seriously doubt i've still got the receipt now though
10. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WARWICK-FNA-JAZZMAN-...93%3A2|294%3A50 £45 postage though, no case too
11.
Hi Kev found this the other day...... could almost be brothers....
Like the look of that, is it for someone? Some interesting basses in the background too! If i sell my Warmoth i might put the money to one side for a bit...
12.
Just picked this up for a very small amount of money as a project bass. It needs rewiring and I think I'm going to have it defretted.
How much did you pay if you don't mind? I love battered old Warwicks! Missed a shabby old Fortress on eBay a couple of years ago for a ridiculous price
13. We must be super awesome, Sex on Fire only took us a few goes! Mr. Brightside always goes down well. We stopped playing Kaiser Chief songs cos we hate em and it seems they aren't that popular anymore. They tended to get more rolled eyes from the crowd than any other modern song I know they're not exactly modern but any Queen and Stevie Wonder tunes are sure fire winners. If you can get the harmonies right Under Pressure is fantastic
14. Bargain! Just got my Curbow 5er and it's mightily impressive
15. Nah not bidding on this, just bought 2 basses! (one was £45 though... plus i think i'm gonna move the other on)
16. What's goin on with this thread, thought i recognised it! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=55058
17. These are always in my local Crack Converters, usually at about £40-£50 depending on condition Was looking for one a while ago for my nephew, one went on eBay for £7.50! That was collection only from Sheffield though
18. The Boss SYB3 has a couple of decent envelope effects on it, not to mention a whole host of other stuff. I had the Dod FX25b and actually preferred the envelope sounds on the Boss. A bit more usable but a little less trebly, also i found a bit of signal loss on the Dod, only with my Warwick though The Boss pedals change hands for around £50 i believe
19.
To me a passive mode switch is for use when your battery is going flat. Otherwise I'd use the actives.
I always thought that way too untl i got the Zoot. The Aero pickups in that sound immense in passive mode. Still better in active though
20. Aye that's the one! They don't sell many guitars in there anyway. Once i asked if i could try a bass, i got the reply: "Well, are you going to buy it?" Cracking sales technique there!
21. Not this one is it? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=54442 Tried a very similar one to this (was natural with a lined body) and it was very good, although i don't think the shop knew what a setup meant The £45 aria i've just bought off eBay is sweet as a nut too
22. I always preferred my Hartke heads to Ashdown, could always get more top end clarity from them. Don't discount the HA3000 either, i owned that one for a while and it's excellent
