Got my eye on a double bass a friend has offered me so i'm putting this up for sale. It's the black one, less than a year old and looks great. It's pretty much mint - there's a small bit of unpainted wood near the control plate on the back which was there from new. Comes with all the accessories including the braces and the nice sturdy gigbag. Has a handy line in and headphone out for silent practice to an mp3 player. Not much else to say about these, here's a link to the correct colour: http://www.normans.co.uk/p-1282-stagg-edb-...WELAID=98312501 These seem to be going for £250 as they're now £350 new so i'd like to get that for it. EDIT: I've been asked about posting this, i am willing to post as i have the original box which is sturdy and the gigbag is well padded so it should be ok. Obviously it will be well packed but i strongly reccommend insurance on an item like this, with it being so long Standard UK shipping will be about £14 and Europe will be about £50 (depending on country), that includes £50 insurance which can be upgraded Ta Steve
I drool over Godin acoustics. This one is over your budget but there may be others : http://www.dv247.com/guitars/godin-a4-sa-f...-natural--49726 I made myself a shallow body acoustic fretless inspired by Godin and it's my most used bass. Also are you so sure about wanting to play fretless that you'd get you nice familiar jazz de-fretted? I'd think about getting a cheap fretless to see how I got on.
There's an A5 fretless on the forum now at £700 http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=89528&hl=godin

I'd get another fretles myself, with that sort of budget you can get an absolute belter. I really wish someone would buy this, it looks fantastic: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=85336&hl=tokai Slightly annoyed that i can't afford it!

Probably the last thing you need to hear but maybe you should have a look at a Sandberg? http://www.sandberg-guitars.de/basscat-overview
The cost does tend to add up once you add in all the hardware, though it depends on what quality of parts you get. Obviously, you pay a premium for Schaller/Hipshot/etc over no-name parts. I've never used them myself, but Warmoth parts are supposed to be excellent quality.
This is one thing i would be aware of if you go the Warmoth route. The cheap Squier-mod project could turn into a very expensive but absolutely amazing project! I don't think i've ever gone on the Warmoth site and not been tempted to put together something absolutely top spec, when you look at some of the basses people have put together it's very tempting to go all out and get your dream bass at any cost. The quality is absolutely top notch on all Warmoth stuff, i couldn't find a single fault with the one i had
-
I had one of those Squiers, very nice basses. I sold it to Maxrossall and you can see it here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;hl=aria+jazz And here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...atural+stunners It's a lot darker than the stock photo, not so much as in Max's photos. The one i took is probably the closest to it's actual colour. Funnily enough i also stuck Barts in mine and it sounded great (so they should, cost as much as the bass!) but as they're a darker sound i think the standard pickups gave a more typical jazz sound. I think it would be a good idea, the Squier i had was very well made, much better than the MIM Fenders i tried at the time of buying it. Very individual looking basses too
-
The last Westfield i played was quite nice, Fender shaped headstock too so not a bad choice for a cheap bitsa. Also Squier pickups can sound pretty good! I quite like the look of it, might be a really nice bass. If it was £50 - £70 then i'd be tempted. Definitely wouldn't spend anywhere near the asking price though.
Linus27, buy it off Wayne (he's got it on for a very good price) and get it de-fretted at the Gallery for £90. All-in cost for the bass you want £450 - seems a pretty good deal if that what you are after???
There's a Mighty Mite fretless neck here (if it's still available): http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=89059&hl=neck £40 is pretty darn cheap plus you can stick it on whatever Squier or Fender you like to make an instant fretless!

Advertising Ebay Auctions that aren't Buy It Now
lemmywinks replied to Delberthot's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I pretty much agree with you Delberthot, i think highlighting bargain BINs is great, i'd much rather someone off here benefited. I'm unsure as to how much of a difference posting auctions makes but can fully understand how frustrating missing out on a bargain would be, especially on collect only stuff where there's not going to be too many bidders. I've bought quite a few bits off eBay recently for the starting bid (not bass related - mostly boring bits of furniture!) and i love getting a bargain as much as the next person -
Just realised....I think I might be a bass slag?
lemmywinks replied to Moos3h's topic in General Discussion
I realied a while ago that despite owning loads of gear through the years my main rig has been pretty static. First i used a Warwick through Hartke gear and couple of years ago i got the Zoot, Markbass, Schroeder setup. All the gear i've bought has either been complimentary to that setup or just for messing about on and trying new things. I GAS more for little practice rigs and cheap backup basses than i do for expensive stuff to use as my main setup. I think it's quite beneficial and interesting to try new things out in this way, also a lot cheaper than lusting after Alembics and Foderas! I've spent quite a bit recently on my bitsa fretless to make it how i want it, i'm also spending money on a tiny practice cab light enough for me to cycle with -

If it's genuine then this bass may have been played on a few more Jethro Tull albums. Dave Pegg's son filled the bass chair on a couple of them including Catfish Rising . Again if it is genuine then this is a piece of British bass history and should be snapped up! Ten grand for a '62 precision with good provenance? Easy!

One here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...l=fretless+neck Could just de-fret one? I don't think it's too difficult and would widen your options.

"For the average to advance bass player"
lemmywinks replied to JMT3781's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
To be fair you could tune so that you could play an entire gig one handed, leaving the other hand free for Saxon style air pointing. Also i thought Tennessee basses were usually a couple of hundred dollars? This is over $3000! -
At least it doubles up as a cheese grater or vegetable mandolin
From every review i've read on Tennessee basses i think cutting cheese would be too much strain for the dodgy construction to take! Check out the bridge! I wonder what it intonates like? -
Oh and Mighty Mite necks are very nice, i like the one i have on my fretless. If you like ebanol as a fingerboard material then i suppose any bass with a compatible neck pocket would be a candidate. They're very cheap, around £80 new and £40-£50 used usually. I'd imagine a CV Jazz with a Mighty Mite neck would be a sweet bass for not a lot of cash. Could flog the old neck too
£55 for a 5m cable?
That's £40 worth of soldering then! As it takes around 10 minutes to make an excellent quality cable that's £240 an hour!

Result! Looks like new now, whoever chose to paint it black needs a stern talking to methinks!
