1. Some pics up if anyone can shed any light on the neck wood. It's darker than the Ovangkol on my Corvette but nothing like the Wenge on the fingerboard
2. Leave it, it's relic'd! Whack it one eBay for £2,000 more than it's worth!
3.
strange. can we see pictures of this lovely bass, ive always liked the fortress shape
Yeah i keep meaning to get some up but my missus keeps forgetting her camera! I'll get some tomorrow I'm not actually too bothered if this isn't an original neck as i got the bass very cheaply, just a bit curious!
4. There's no takers on this now so it's available
5. Cheers, the serial number search doesn't turn up any results though. Maybe best to email Warwick on this one i think I took the neck off and there's no other holes in the heel so i'm stumped. The neck couldn't be off a Corvette as i compared it with mine and the screw holes are in differently places Weird! And before anyone asks, no i haven't mistaken the 05 for a 95! (although that does sound like something i'd do)
6. I'm a bit confused regarding the serial number on my Warwick Fortress One. I always understood that the last 2 numbers indicate the year of manufacture and the letter indicates the month. My Fortress has B and 05, indicating February 2005, however i thought Fortress were discontinued long before then? It was sold as a 90s model and i've never checked it. It has the Fortress Truss rod cover and the adjustable brass nut so i assumed it was all original, however i am now thinking it may be a different neck on the original body What do we think?
7. I think it's gone now matey, just sorting out payment. If not i'll mention it in the thread
8. Shipping would only be £8! I think it's gone now anyways Ta Steve
9. Good stuff! Forgot to mention that the strings will probably need replacing as they're not the brightest, at least not to my taste. They're all there though and it still sounds good Ta Steve
10. Aye i thought it'd be Bubinga, wasn't sure if they made the early ones out of something different. As for the price, i'm just passing on the love! I got it cheap so i'm selling it cheap! Ammended to V950B!
11. Hi I bought this recently to see if i liked it as i'd always liked the 4 string version. I do like it but can't justify keeping it so it has to go. It was sold as an Encore mahogany bodied bass, however it's actually a Vintage V940, the early version with gold hardware. It needed a good clean and some work and parts but it's come up really nice, the only things i'd mention are: - Buckle rash on the back - One of the retainer screws on the bridge doesn't match the others - The neck bolts aren't original - It may need a new battery connector wiring if it's gonna see heavy use (cost pennies) - The clip on the battery box doesn't spring back (still secure though, you just have to push it back. A new battery box is around £5 - £6 but this one works fine) That's all i can think of I bought this bass for £50, with delivery and parts it owes me around £65 so i'd like this back. No offers unless they're more than £65! I'll ship it with any courier you like, i usually use Interparcel as they're only around £8, so you could have this delivered for £73 I'm near Blackpool if anyone fancies trying it out
12. Senditnow will ship boxes for around £8, they use UPS. Use their economy service, last time i used them the bass arrived the next day If you can ship and fancy a px on a Vintage V940 bass with cash your way then i'l interested too!
13.
I do like this jazz...but I'm put off by the fact that the back pick up sound doesn't sound like a jazz...I think you said it had more of a precision type tone....that's a shame.
It does sound like a Jazz, just a bit darker with a bit more thud available. Roll off a bit of the neck pickup and you're in Jazz territory, roll off the bridge a little and knock the tone back and it does a great P impression. It can't quite do the nasal tone you can get out of a jazz, although with a more versitile eq you could probably get it. It does sound smoother than the Jazzes i've had, which i preferred for fretless. It's not the sort of active tone that jumps out at you with sizzling highs, it just sounds like a beefed up passive bass, which again i like on fretless I guess it's probably due to the woods and the basic tone control, there's a nice big control cavity on the back in case you wanted to add a different eq
14. A total steal too, was having a think about that one but managed to restrain myself! I'm happy for you but more than a little jealous!
15. Not used those ones but i have played the Cheetah/Johnny Brook branded ones that Crack Converters sell, they were £4 when i got em but they're £6 now i think Was really impressed, a bit rough but they sounded better than the Hartke strings i took off that bass. I use these on my backup bass and they do their job
16.
a Zon Sonus 8 string is still on my list Just been listening to Faith No More from this year's download and I need a Zon like Billy Gould's - what a sound. It won't fit in with the sound of the wedding band but f@@k it
Every time i watch FNM vids i GAS for a Zon. Billy Gould has an incredible tone, even if he is looking more like Bill Oddie these days
17. Just noticed the reflection in that last photo. Is that a massive blonde affro you're sporting?
18. Bought a nice Levys strap from Legion for my new Warwick. Cheers bud!
19. I had the Shine badged version of this bass, astounding value for money. I was totally surprised at just how good it was, a great intro to six strings and totally giggable
20.
The single-stage FET buffer is very easy to throw up. And it would easily fit inside pretty much any control cavity. I'll try to remember snapping some photos of mine next time I'm able. Should be in about ten days.
Excellent, cheers dude!
21. I've just bought the natural 5 string version of that bass for £50, looking forward to receiving it as the 4 string version of it was great There's nothing worse than a brand snob, most basses these days are very well put together and are well up to gigging. Plus there's something cool about finding a great cheapo bass!
22. Ah, good work! And loft basses do actually exist!
23.
Whooooosh! Dibs, please.
Ok, 1st dibs it is! It was listed as a mahogany bass, . However it's one of the earlier Vintage ones with gold hardware and i presume a 2-band active eq. presume it's bubinga bodied as the photos were a bit poo. The seller also thought it was an Encore even though it says "Vintage" in big letters on the headstock!
24. Should have posted this here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=delivery Would have arrived by now!
