1. I actually used to own a pretty close example. I would probably have changed the fingerboard to ebony Walnut Jazz body with Pau Ferro neck and fingerboard, lined fretless. Seymour Duncan Lightning Rods to a vol/vol/tone, all black hardware inc. Gotoh bridge and Schaller tuners and straplocks Was awesome, i'm missing it now!
2.
If someone wants a black one with a badass II and Seymour duncan active pickup, I will match this price.
Now that's a good deal, someone bite his hand off!
3. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FENDER-P-BASS-SUNBUR...=item4cef7b0a23 Sunburst with black scratchplate
4. Ace pedals these, loads of good OD sounds in there They were over £120 originally too
5. I actually think Korea/China maybe Indonesia are able to mass-produce instruments to a higher standard than anyone out there. They've got more experience in dealing with huge numbers whilst still maintaining impeccable quality control. The only thing that disappoints me about the new Korean Warwicks is the price, they should be a good deal cheaper IMO
6.
Surely if they do that, it would make the new 2010 model Rockbasses obsolete? The only concernable difference between the new rockbasses that arent released here yet, and the German ones are that they arent made in Germany. If German basses arent made in Germany anymore, surely they will just be Rockbasses.
A MIM or CIJ Fender is still a Fender though, isn't it? Seem to remember Fender also making certain series (Lite Ash?) in Korea with an authentic F-Badge. I bet all those Lakland, G&L and Musicman owners with non-USA unstruments still call identify their basses by the relevant brand, even if they haven't been anywhere the original factory! I actually hope Warwick keep the bulk of their basses German made, purely for historical reasons - it's always nice to have a German 'Wick. The pics of the new Rockbasses and the Korean Pro Series Corvette look excellent though, i'd certainly buy one if they were the right price (which is doubtful) and i didnt have 2 German Warwicks already.
Them Koreans are getting a bit good at making basses. Less troublesome EU law causing difficulties too. Not unappealing to a manufacturer I'd guess. Deciding quality will drop due to having slantier eyed workers seems a bit racist.
7. That top one looks really nice, starting to get scared that i might be a closet Status fan now! Also, who is NAS?
8.
Oh my good lord... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=87870 This looks good too... with the 1x15 it's currently paired with, or possibly with the Eden 2x12? YOu lot got me thinking with your comments on the LMII with the Eden you see, and then I found a really big thread on here singing the praises of the GenzBenz Shuttle6... Tempted by such a teeny little lightweight thing...
That looks ace, buy that! A lot of rig for the money and no backache at all. I gigged for years with various half and full stacks (like a lot of people on here), i genuinely believe my current lightweight rig sounds better and goes louder than anything i've had before. For me it was a breath of fresh air not having to cart a ton of gear around, i can carry my bass, amp, cab and lead bag in one trip from the van. Also keep in mind a single efficient cab will most likely be all you ever need, unless you're playing huge places with no decent monitors. I've done very large stages with the rig in my sig below and it's always been more than loud enough. Another point, with that Genz rig and the Eden cab you'll get your money back fairly quickly if you decide to sell it on. Lightweight/compact gear always shifts as plenty of people are looking to downsize so it holds it's value well.
9.
Just like Martin said... Get Status to make it - Like the one in this picture!
Is that a Status? Looks ace, maybe i am 47 years old after all! Seriously though, that looks beautiful, although i'm a total sucker for f-holes
10. A drummer friend of mine does cruise work, has done for the last 8 years! He manages to put away a hefty amount of money, all his food and accomodation is paid for. I should say he mainly does big band stuff and also plays in a small jazz band so the money might be different I got offered cruise work a few months ago after posting on joinmyband, the band who messaged me all said the money was good and that was just party/covers stuff
11.
Stingray type truss rod adjustment and a piezo saddled bridge, with associated electrical gubbins.
+1 for the piezo bridge. Is it gonne be a fretless? Can't wait to get my piezo equipped fretless back, my tech's taking ages with it but it'll be worth it
12. Another +1 for Elixirs I didn't find them too bright, just really smooth across the board. Even used sets i've had lasted a hell of a long time. The treble boost on my bass is very suble so that might have something to do with it They can get a bit furry as the coating comes off but still sound great. They're also very slick strings to play and you may notice a little speed boost too!
13. Don't mean to complicate things further but you'll pick up a second hand Markbass amp for around £350 nowadays. Paired with a 2x12 you'd have a nice light, compact but very loud little rig. I use a LMII with a Schroeder 1212r and it's incredibly loud
14. Best bet is to scour the for sale section for a bargain, you can pretty much halve the cost and get something really good. Clarky has a Wizard Jazz bridge pickup for sale here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...8&hl=wizard There's also a sweet Dimarzio for sale here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=85159 EDIT: Also it might be the pre contributing to the flat sound, a pickup upgrade will definitely improve things though. The only IGB i played had a Musicman style pickup and active pre and it sounded massive and really lively, as i'd imagine they put the same preamp into different models the pickups would be my first port of call
15. What a great deal! I gigged one of these a few years ago and it was really good, i liked it and i don't actually like Musicmans! Worth it for the bass alone i reckon
16. This caught my eye: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-MIJ-Fretless-...=item439f45c094 Wonder what it sounds like? Has mag and piezo pickups and looks the business
17. Spotted this on eBay the other day whilst looking for local pickup bargains: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Bassman-100-/...=item27b1b05e8f Similar? That's a 70s Bassman 100 but with a whopping 4x12
18.
Look on the bright side - At least you didn't ask him which compressor pedal would improve the sound of your rig the most ;-)
Or if your amp will fit in a shallow rack!
19. Good little amps these, i tried one in a shop and ordered the A70, handed a low B surprisingly well for a small compact combo and sounded excellent. Great price too
20.
He certainly got da chops. Here he is again, cruising along nicely but then quickly sacks off the improvisation and turns to jamming fancy chops again.
I was quite enjoying that until he dropped all the slapping and tapping parts in!
21.
Jimmy was the true genius in pumpkins IMO. His drumming was top drawer. Everything else is overproduced nonesense from Billly. Even Celebrity Skin sounded like a Pumpkins demo, as does the new Hole album. Suppose the point I'm trying to make is that BC has a template for a band and he's gonna stick to it. I thought with Melissa it could have worked well as she has a great voice and sings superb harmonies. AFAIC the best days of Pumpkins are long gone. Think I'll give Siamese Dream a spin.........
+1 on Jimmy Chamberlain, fantastic drummer and ex-owner of an impressive mullet. Mellon Collie is a truly beautiful album and one that gets played every week at Casa de Lemmywinks
22. I'll actually stick up for mine now as since i took it out of the casing it's had loads of use and zero problems. I'm not gigging it but for a cheap practice head it does the job, it was £199 years ago so it's earnt it's keep I wouldn't use it as backup or take it to any situation where i would be depending on it working without error though, it used to be a horrible amp to use. Mine cut out regularly and went back a few times because of a dodgy channel - it arrived with only one side working! Like i said it's been absolutely fine since i took the casing off so i put the problems down to overheating issues, for now at least
23.
The fact that you played through a Hartke that actually works astounds me.
? Generally Hartke have a great reputation for reliability. A local shop near me changed from Ashdown to Hartke because of all the returns he was getting and is still stocking them to this day. I had 2 heads and 4 cabs, all of which got gigged regularly and the only problem was with the VX215 - needed some screws to secure the baffle board
24. It's not everyone's cup of tea so will take longer to sell i'd expect, also it would help if you described it a bit clearer in your sig (it looks like your selling a group of consonants instead of a bass!), maybe made the text bigger/different colour? That way everyone would notice it when you post. Could also put a link in there Some basses will go in a day, some will take an age (like my old Warmoth)
25.
Well, if it's good enough for Jack Bruce.... G.
Exactly! It's not like you were using an underpowered 20 year old carlsbro combo with a flatulent speaker! Those Hartke heads are great, i used Hartke stuff for ages and only really got rid because i wanted something smaller and lighter. Gigs and practice rooms with stairs are the deciding factor i'm afraid. The VX series offer serious bang for buck too, i had the 1508 and the 215 - both shifted a lot of bass and were dirt cheap. I stayed with the brand and bought a full stack and still own an A70 combo today You know you've got it good when a decent half stack is budget gear!
