active to passive , is it possible ?
lemmywinks replied to suhinaffy's topic in Repairs and Technical
If the pickups themselves are active (rather than passive pups hooked up to an active eq) then they will probably be too low in output. Someone else local to me had the same problem and i thought getting some passive Wilkinson soapbars off eBay would be a good idea. They can be wired in series/parallel i think, handy as you'll have 2 holes in your bass if you go passive! Someone more knowledgeable will be along soon to clarify no doubt! -
This Yamaha is a good deal at £100: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Yamaha-BB414-Bass-Gu...=item2306b4a046 Comes with a strap, bag and 2 sets of Ernie Ball strings. Even better if you can arrange your own courier (Parcelbee or Interparcel will ship a bass for around £7)

ESP B-50 for £110 delivered: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ESP-B-50-BASS-CHEAP_...=item2a067a6d48 It's also worth scouring eBay for local collection only bargains. I picked up an Aria HSS strat with an amp, case and leads the other week for £50. Good as new!
I have a LG1000 and the pre section is a little weak- though if you use, say a Sansamp bass driver you can really boost the pre section which will give a lot more volume. I also use 2X 4ohm cabs so use the full 1000W- though dont really believe it is rated at that- plenty loud enough though- you can also boost the volume by using the EQ Bob
Would you say it's louder than the LMII Bob? I know it's hard to compare as you'll be using different cabs with each due to the output configuration, but does it seem like it's got more headroom when pushed?
Is it just the volume that seems a little lacking? A few people have commented that the Little Giants sound a little quiet for their wattage so perhaps that is your answer. Had a chance to use it in a band situation yet?
Yeah i heard that too, particularly about the 350w version. You'd think one side of the LG1000 @ 500w would still be sufficient though I remember some folk on here also saying that the pre stage is a little weak, that might have something to do with it. There was a post a while ago that said an amp tech built a booster to go between the pre and power amps. In this thread: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;hl=lg+pre+amp
If that's the one I have now yeah it's a good pedal but I don't really need it any more. He can have it for what I paid Oli for it which was £19 if I remember rightly?
Ah cool, cheers Wayne. I'll let him know and show him the pics
-
Cool i'll tell him about those, look slightly influenced by the Boss pedals!
Does it need to be a pedal? You can pick up a hand held tuner for £10-15.
Yeah it's for when we get gigging, he'll need a mute function and something that's easy to see. We've got some normal tuners knocking about around the house but he wants a pedal one after using my Korg
-
Our old guitarist had a couple of Behringer pedals, the tuner was the first to pack up closely followed by the others! I think he only got one or two gigs out of it and it failed mid-gig, i know some people use Behringer stuff with no problems but they have a shocking reputation for a reason, i'd feel pretty bad if i reccommended it to a mate and it stopped working. For the same price you can get something that looks much better, the two in the links above have metal cases, just wondering what the guts are like. I know Belcat's other pedals are supposed to be decent
-
One of my housemates is getting back into playing guitar and needs a cheap tuner pedal, he likes my Korg but can't shell out the money for one, he has about £30 tops I've been looking at eBay and there's a couple on there: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rockburn-Retro-style...=item3efe6ee289 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Digital-Chromatic-Tr...=item53e0773e05 The Rockburn one is made by Belcat who seem to make sturdy pedals, the other one looks decent enough, both have mute and true bypass and are metal rather than plastic. Has anybody got any experience of these? Obviously it's a false economy if they are rubbish but if they work then great. Alternatively anybody got any other suggestions for a cheapy tuner pedal? No Behringer please! Ta Steve
Wasn't there a guy on here who bought a fodera from them for £200 or something insane?
Yep, it was a friend of OTPJ if i'm not mistaken? Occaisionally there's a decent deal in Crack Converters, i bought my Shine 6er brand new for £120, needed a new battery and a set of decent strings for a bass that sold for about £300. Quite a few folk on here have had great bargains from CC, seems to be mostly cr@p in the blackpool one though -

Horrid Hohner P copy in red (eurgh!) with a Gorilla 20w combo. The amp had a "growl" knob and a sticker that said "Hear this Gorilla growl", which i found rather embarrassing I swapped the bass for a PC as i had saved up £600 and bought a Gibson RD Artist, the amp is also long gone, bought a Trace Commando and forgot about it, might still be in my parents' garage
That's a great deal! Head and homemade cab for £130, the other cab should be decent too
-
I take 2 long leads and 2 short, a spare speakon-speakon cable and a little cheap toolkit. I leave some 9v batteries and an old set of strings in each bass case so i never have to worry about those I used to take a spare bass when i was playing covers but don't any more. Also i DI through my MXR pedal so i never take a spare amp/cab either. Also worth mentioning that in my old covers band we had spare fuses/4 gangs and a toolkit (with soldering iron) in the van
waterslide stuff like Airfix n that do you mean?
Like this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Inkjet-water-slide-d...=item4839ed66e7 The one's from the seller mentioned above (i assume it's the same guy i used) are great, but really this is all he's doing. All it costs is paper, ink and a coat or two of lacquer
-
It's really easy to make your own, buy a sheet of transparent waterslide paper off eBay, get the decals off the net and knock up a sheet in Publisher. They work with any inkjet printer, i did some a while ago

What's the bass response on those little EA cabs btw? I'm assuming it's a Wizzy?
-
The speakers in the EA cabs will be good quality, sensitive units. Should be no problems, you shouldn't need to push the amp as hard to get the required volume as you would with inferior units No doubt someone more clued up will add something but i tend to think of it this way - quality and efficiency of cab/driver is more important than the numbers on the back!
Thats got to be the geekiest looking instrument ever played, he aint gona pull some groupies at any kind of gig
I think that groupies will be a bit thin on the ground at laser harp gigs to begin with...
