  1. Mine is the Alder V7 5 string and is 10lb give or take an ounce or two, would be interesting to get some weights of the V3 and V9 models. From memory I got mine used for around £300 which is an astounding amount of bass for Squier money, great B string too. I think if Sire could do their own in house Ultralight copies and get the body weight down to make a 7-8lb bass they would be onto a winner, I'd buy at least one.
  2. Yeah the weight is the one downside which isn't easily rectifiable, it's not a dealbreaker and they aren't any heavier than a lot of J type basses. I was coming from 7lb Cort 5 strings with compact bodies so I suppose the Sire felt heavier than it actually was!
  3. Jaco liked 5 strings: That's a Gretsch (or a Guild? can't remember, think it began with a G) and a custom acoustic he specced I think.
  4. Good spot (not that I'd expect anything less!), I thought it was a Shine neck going off the headstock shape. That purple Maison looks great, I seriously hope he didn't butcher a complete working bass to make that monstrosity, although something tells me he probably did. I seem to remember a while ago he went through stages of making "customs" out of cheap Vintage basses, turning them into 3 strings, ripping all the controls out (putting duct tape over the holes) and wiring them straight to the 1/4" jack, reshaping headstocks (badly) and giving them horrid amateur motorcycle tank paint jobs. Like there's a huge market for that sort of thing. Then he did a few mock EUBs again made from cheap basses with the bodies hacked up and metal rods shoved up where the strap pin used to be, these usually started off at silly prices and gradually got lower until he took them off eBay when they still didn't sell. Although MDP gets a bit of stick at least he'll be selling instruments that play ok and aren't butchered, they can all be put right with a little bit of money and time. This guy is borderline insane.
  5. I'm distressed just knowing it's in the next town to mine!
  6. From looking at his feedback it seems he's knocking out counterfeit autographed pictures too.
  7. .....when you can just use a shovel instead? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Custom-distressed-cello-bass-guitar/273342006959?hash=item3fa47406af:g:Py0AAOSw3qdbP8pr This guy's efforts crop up on my local searches, he's been butchering instruments for years to make his "customs", I think he used to use a different account. He has a history of making shocking EUBs by ruining cheap starter basses and I seem to remember at some point he was selling condoms which were past their use by date, justified with his claim that he used them himself. Ewwwwwwwww......
  8. Go and watch a band using them as PA without subs and listen to how good the bass sounds, there's your answer. Honestly they're probably total overkill to use as a bass monitor and for me at least they're a bit bulky to use as a wedge - I get stuck behind keyboard players a lot and being able to position a smaller cab is beneficial.
  9. We used to whack a full band through a pair of these, I think pretty much anybody would love using one as a bass amp. Just big, clean power.
  10. I use mine with the Bass Amp preset most of the time, the preamp pedal I use doesn't really add any voicing to the signal though. I just like the sound of my bass straight into the desk so I've gone for the simplest option really, save for just plugging the bass straight in. Even fewer reasons for me to go shopping for £200+ pedals I don't need then!
  11. I was listening to some desk recordings a few weeks ago (our guitarist just bought the 32 channel Mackie iPad desk thingy where you can master tracks down individually) and thinking how great the bass sounds just coming straight from the Fishman, pretty much the sound I went through a ton of amps trying to achieve. Went home really pleased with my tiny but great live rig yet a couple of hours later I almost bought a GK Plex just out of curiosity, had to have a word with myself and remove it from the virtual basket.
  12. This is the thing, it doesn't cure GAS at all. It just makes you want to buy a ton of preamp pedals.
  13. I think the RCF HD32-A is at that size/price point too from memory. That's what I'd have gone for if the K10.2 wasn't so tiny, although i am getting sick of explaining to people where my amp is.
  14. Exactly the same experience here, I go Bass > Fishman DI > QSC and still can't believe the low end that little thing puts out. I am wondering if the magic DSP pixies inside need feeding or anything.
  15. No issues with mine, nothing particularly wrong with the tuners as far as cheap tuners go - they hold tuning for long nough. I have upgraded it though purely as it's my main gigging bass and I want it to be as stable as it can be as I plan on playing it indefinitely. I've swapped the tuners for Schallers and while the originals were perfectly usable this upgrade is a massive improvement, absolutely rock solid for an entire gig. I have also replaced the knobs for nicer ones, Gotoh flat top for the concentric pots (I already had one of these in my parts drawer which is why I chose 'em!) and generic Tele knobs for the standard pots (a few quid for 4 on eBay). I also plan on swapping the bridge out for a higher quality part when I get some excess PayPal funds, again nothing wrong with the original.
  16. That's a great writeup, belting pictures too. Always fascinating to get insights like that. You really need to get with the times and buy a colour camera though!
  17. Why not just tilt your cab back so you can hear it? Seems like that would have sorted your issue without buying the SC in the first place let alone a whole new amp to pair it with.Try an adjustable stand and an Ikea laptop tray: https://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/accessories-c2/stands-and-hangers-c70/amplifier-stands-c461/athletic-w2-professional-guitar-amp-stand-with-tilt-adjustable-lever-p10608 https://www.amazon.co.uk/IKEA-BRADA-Laptop-support-black/dp/B00GMM74T0
  18. Also even though it looks like something you'd scrape off the bottom of a trawler I'd wager it plays a hell of a lot better than a lot of old Fenders which everybody seems to covet.
  19. Well you can buy it if you want. 5k Euro to some people is nothing, some people spend that on a handbag. Warwick are being pretty clever here, they can screw around and make a monstrosity and some clown might hand over big money for it just because it's unique. Unique unless anybody else has been using their Corvette to shovel cement into a mixer for the past 6 years that is.
  20. It's not meant to be a relic, or a serious bass for that matter. it's a novelty instrument they knocked up, if you follow their FB then you'll see they do it every now and then along with more regular one-off examples of their range. It's marketing basically, they do it for fun and to get clicks/reactions. The only place it's been described as a relic is here so they aren't trying to pass it off as anything other than a bit of fun. They describe it as "The Fossil" btw, here: https://shop.warwick.de/en/Instruments/Electric+Basses/Warwick+Showroom/Warwick+Custom+Shop+Corvette+__,+4-String+-+Sanblasted+_The+Fossil_+Transparent+Satin+-+18-3794+-+Showroom+Model
  21. Ours does, he's a former pro drummer and when we have band member holidays he takes the odd dep gig here and there where it comes in handy.
  22. Now reduced by £30 to £269, bargain for someone. Just decided to buy a new bike otherwise I would have bought it this morning!
  23. iIRC they did a steampunk bass a while ago and also a CS rusted metal finish - not for me but at least they do fun and different things just for the sake of it, not many instrument builders do that really.
