1. I know what you mean,i have other basses but the one that i pick up 99% of the time in the house is a Jim Deacon passive maple neck MM type that cost IIR £80.
2. It was 1975/6,i was 14/15,it was £75 IIR
3. We have 2 sets with 2 of the subs each side,we use them as monitors basically, and we are happy with them.
4. Looks right to me. "Mind u, they're well dodgy! " +1 in my experience. I would'nt buy a plectrum from them.
5. They are also going to build these. http://bassoutpost.com/index.php?topic=2847.0
6. It does work,i have done it loads of times,BUT,in a week or two they will be back to the state they were in before you boiled them. There is a thread ? or a link ? on here somewhere about how to do it more effectively by soaking them overnight in methylated spirits ? if i recall.Plus the boiling makes the string wraps go fluffy.
7. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Erm..........what basses do you use ?
8.
OK - I'm biased.
I used to be.Had shed loads of vintage basses, guitars, amps etc,but got over the thought that U.S built is better a long time ago.
9. Try Brasso,or something similar. As long as they are not rusty it should work.
10. Try as many as you can and buy the one you like best.It does'nt matter where it's made,or what the name on the headstock is.
11. Head £100,Dirt box £12 ....................ebay prices.
12.
Either that, or Leo Fender had the foresight to make slapping as difficult as possible.
The man was a genius.Its an A.S.D.
13. Finger rest.
14. Blue cheer,Vincebus Eruptum..............Not exactly country.
15. So, what you are saying is................ Core tone is everything ?
16. Cool.How much ? i allways fancied one.
17. Is'nt a P-J a super P ? theres tons of them.
18. Can you still get Humbuckers like that ?
19. Robin Freedom 2.
20. Nice................you really need a vintage amp now though.
21. http://www.robinguitars.com/1985-1.html
22. That would have been the best option, but cost prohibitive as it's not my main or even backup bass.
23. I took the pickup out of the Jim Deacon MM that i have, cut a hole in the Italia so that it would fit.Luckily ? the Italia body is made up of 2 seperate pieces, back and front, which screw together,so i only had to cut the top half of the body and soldered the connections up.This left me with an odd shaped hole where the 4 lipstick pickups used to live,so i cut a 3" square out of a mother of toilet seat Jazz scratchplate that i got in the local guitar shop, drilled a hole and screwed it onto the existing scratchplate. This will do until i get a new scratchplate made up. It also got a couple of gold knobs instead of the original "strat" type, just to bling it up a bit. Result...............1 unusual P shaped bass which plays great but sounded thin and weak, and now sounds much louder and punchy. Next project.........Jim Deacon MM to get 2 or 3 lipstick pickups,or a replacement MM style
