1. Im not sure about the wiring options,pre-amp maybe ? The MM style pickup would need to be placed in this pic, would that be too far back ? an extra pickup could be fitted further forward to balance things out. Thanks for the hints.
2. Mines 11lbs,never been a problem.The strap is comfortable,and it's worn at a comfortable height.
3. I have an Italia, modulus,it plays great, but sounds VERY weak, and i want to use it.What pickup would fit in the space after the lipsticks are removed without too much cutting about ? I was thinking about a MM-type, I do'nt mind having a new scratchplate made, and im not bothered about the colour of the pickup that goes in,ie,it does'nt need to be chrome,as i intend to cover it with a P-style chrome rest,it already has a P-style bridge cover.
4. I've tried the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Michael Jackon etc but no satisfaction yet. Any one got any ideas? The long and winding road ?
5. Ashdown Behringer Multi effects units Lead guitarists that have been to some guitar institute or other, they ALL sound the same.
6. Im in discussions with "the sweet guy" :lol:sorry Howie, never heard you called that before, about a 60's type Precision.
7.
Nice collection I have a curious attraction to that sparkly gold Italia...
Hmmm,so did i,that's why my wife bought it for me,but to be honest,it needs work to make it really useable live,it's so under powered.
8.
Nice little collection there. Good to know my 5-string creation is still favourite - those EMG Selects were always underated. Looking forward to putting together a Precision type for you - it'll be ready for Christmas (but note I'm not saying which Christmas).
Thats great, ill have the very reasonable (read low)cash sum to you by Christmas,(but note,IM not saying which Christmas either)
9. Here are my current basses, 5 string Jazz, built by The Bass Doc about 8 years ago,Jim Cairnes figured neck,Selects, gold hardware.Built for me,sold, then bought back. Vintage 5 with a couple of wiring mods to make it hiss less when using full treble.Bought during the 2 months that the above bass was out of my hands. Italia Modulus gold sparkley thing.Sounds good but low on power. My wife bought me this to use on my bands T.V debut.Getting sorted over the next couple of weeks, wiring, maybe new pickup. Jim Deacon MM,re-shaped headstock, better tuners, new pots & capacitor, bought when i had carpal tunnel problems, for practice, but now very useable. Played through a Marshall DBS-2x10/1x15 +1x15 cabs stack.and a Carlsboro Delta + Behringer 2x12 for in the house.
10. That one was a 'Satterley Special',Never had one that i did'nt like.I've had a few.
11. Howard,my 5 string is still with me,nothing else comes near it,it's the loudest bass i ever played. It's still not pink though. That walnut Jazz looks familiar.2x jazz + single jazz ? did it ever have a walnut neck ?I had one like that.
12.
I'd consider the getting a few too, the fun thing about that for me anyway is, you get an original sound, and one of the reasons I love bass so much, what would you plan on doing?
sunburst - eb3 in the neck, precision in the middle, jazz in the bridge, badass bridge, schaller machines black - mirror scratch plate, another jazz pup alongside the bridge one, switch for single or both on together, badass, schallers
13. I went looking for a new amp recently,i was looking to buy Ashdown gear,i played one at a festival recently, and it was great,(with most of the middle knocked back anyway).Took my main bass with me,tried a few combinations of Ashdowns/cabs,and came away with a 400w Marshall DBS-1x15 + 1x15,2x10 cabs, for £400,loads of power, great tone, and no fannying about with 2,3,4 middle controls. It's the clearest my low b has ever sounded,i've had Marshall bass and guitar amps in the past, the last one being a chrome rackmount thing,150/200w,cant remember now.
14. I have a Jim Deacon Music Man type bass, natural finish, flame maple neck and maple board,(which has never needed more than the initial adjustment since i bought it for £60,four years ago),i re-shaped the headstock the same as a telecaster bass, because the original shape, which was similar to a Music Man head shape, but with four on a side tuners, just didnt look right imo.I also added a Duncan ,MM style pickup and changed the tone pot,now it plays and sounds good, and has been gigged a lot as my spare bass.Obviously it will never replace my custom built Jazz, but it's put me off buying a Precision.I've allways been a fan of good cheap basses, using 60's and 70's Fenders and Gibsons, when a 60's Precision was £300,i,ve even gigged modded Westfields and Encore's in the past, and found Jim deacon's to be better built than most, especially for the price.Really fancy getting a couple of Precisions and Modding them, one along the lines of Billy Sheehan's "the wife" ?,much less heartwrenching than doing it to a real Precision, but with the same end result.
15.
I've always had GAS for the Maranello in red sparkle & pearloid. Looking like that, I couldn't give a rat's gonad what it's made from. Had a good drool over these at Music Live (although they didn't have a red Maranello - ) and I love some of the details - the Modulo's inline staggered lipstick pup is excellent: And it seems they do that in red sparkle, too... Jon
i just got one of these in gold sparkle, sound has a definate vintage vibe to it,sounds similar to a danelectro longhorn, not sure about the finish on the neck, but wet and dry will cure that
16. Has anyone on here any experience of Fender's Highway 1 Precisions ?,and Squier modified Precision /block neck Squier Jazz ? they seem good at shop volumes, but not sure how they will cut it in a gig situation.
