Some of the Bright Onion Pedals A/B swtching boxes include a tuner-mute switch and output. He is based in Brighton I believe and will build to order. I think all you need though is a box with two switchable inputs ( A/B ) to 2 switchable outputs ( X/Y ), one for fhe tuner. The switch box then does the muting and the tuner is not part of the input path.
who puts anything on top of the amps?
If you had to clean J2O out of your amp then you would understand. Luckily no long term damage was done on that occasion, despite the oh so helpful attentions of my band mates.

When the tuner is switched on it mutes the output for silent tuning.

I'm really happy with my 2 One 10s. I have been using a single cab with a Puma 500 & jazz bass for 12-piece big band rehearsals and was asked to turn it down on Monday. And I was complimented on my sound. Not bad for a 15lb box.

Lightweight amp head for upright and electric - recommend!
DBerriff replied to andyjevans's topic in Amps and Cabs
Is Acoustic Image a player at all in the UK market? For doubling with a real upright and fretless BG doing jazz stuff that would be by far my first choice, especially the new series with the extra EQ band.
A good call. I had an early model which was really well made. The sound was very neutral (or HiFi if you prefer) and the EQ rather subtle, which I found ideal for my needs at that time. AI EU is based in Carlisle so that is Overwater. The prices are not bad for made in the USA heads. You have got me thinking about a new Clarus now ... -
Just shows.... horses for courses. I have a Barefaced One10, and I love it so much I'm going to get another. I run a P bass with flats and an upright through my GK MB800 into the Barefaced, and seldom have to touch the eq. I usually leave the tone section flat at 12 o'clock, and that's it. As with Marc S, I struggled to hear my PJB on stage when sat on the floor. The Barefaced sat flat on the floor enables me to hear myself perfectly. What the difference between the two is, I don't know. I'm going to get another little Barefaced for big gigs so I don't have to lug my "other brand" cab around. This is all my opinion, and matters little in the grand scheme of the universe...
Same experience except with a Tecamp Puma head. The Taste control adds a bit of clarity when I feel I need it. -
Ed Friedland's "Blues Bass" (Hal Leonard series) covers many of the standard numbers and includes some playing advice. I found it useful when I needed a quick "refresh". For inspiration I would go back to the original "electric" blues from the Sun and Chess labels, and especially Muddy Waters who seems to have performed or covered all the standards at one time or another. Blues compilation CDs cost next to nothing if you do not use Spotify.

Genzler Amplification Magellan 800 - now released!
DBerriff replied to Ghost_Bass's topic in Amps and Cabs
Anyone tried this amp yet? Tony
Yes, but not on a gig as yet. The design is, for my modest needs, just about perfect, and it sounds superb through a Barefaced Super Compact. The B contour adds in old-school warmth if you need it, so you essentially have a Shuttle and Streamliner in one box but without the valves. I never had a single problem with my Streamliner but even so, this looks good for long-term reliability. The twin channels should be useful. Every switchable feature has an indicator light. It is a very practical head. As for the performance on a gig that will have to wait a few weeks, but I have no worries given Jeff Genzler's track record and some of the other forum feedback I have read. -
As you know the Streamliner you would immediately feel at home with the Magellan. Add in two switchable channels and 2 variable contour options to tailor the response to scooped or old-school and you have a really versatile set of options. If proves as reliable ss my Shuttle and Streamliner then for my needs it is just about perfect.

There do not have to be actual fights for things to get tedious. An ex bandmate of mine with a finger in her face: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153429021118920&set=a.183367098919.123861.515118919&type=3&theater Incessant requests for a song we cannot or no longer want to play; music stands sent flying (our brass needed the dots); punters who just look at you and don't move out of the way as you try to carry heavy gear in, but more usually out of the venue. With hindsight my disillusionment with it all was in part tied up with a bout of bad health, plus the incessant moaning within the band (about our drummer once they realised it wasn't me; about some band members turning up minutes before the start of the gig and then disappearing without helping to strike down the gear; I'm sure a lot of you know how it goes). My health is sorted, I have a found a new big band to play with. Onwards and upwards, hopefully

How The Beatles still grip Liverpool ...
DBerriff replied to EssentialTension's topic in General Discussion
Liverpool is the only city I know where the girls go shopping in Tesco with curlers in their hair (before the big night out?). -
That's too bad. I love being around people ,love our bar gigs. In all these years. I've never played to what you guys call a roomful of drunks. BTW,I haven't had a drink since 1975. Blue
We played in a small community with a limited number of pubs/bars prepared to pay for bands. One was rowdy and great fun, one was rowdy and at times quite menacing. You have it sorted with your gigs and that is great. A good friend of mine is trying to do the same with early evening chill-out gigs, but unfortunately I have moved and cannot join in the fun. I enjoy people and their company, but drunks are not really people. My next gig should be with a local big band. That is more like it and it attracts the sort of crowd I want to play for. Peace!

As Wonky2 says. Liverpool is multi-dimensional city with far more than just its musical heritage. The stereotypes persist in the minds of those who have never been there. Thank you Harry Enfield. -
Anyone using a pair of Barefaced One-10 cabs?
DBerriff replied to fretmeister's topic in Amps and Cabs
I have two One 10s. I finally get to try them out with a big band next week, but it will only be in a small rehearsal room. I'll let you know how it goes. -
How The Beatles still grip Liverpool ...
DBerriff replied to EssentialTension's topic in General Discussion
I first started visiting Liverpool in the 50s as a wide-eyed 5 year old, when my Grandfather was an immigration officer and took me with him around the docks. I was shocked by the decline that had set in by the mid 60s. I am once again a regular visitor as one off our daughters lives there. What I see is a city that has picked itself up enormously over the last 20 years. I cannot think of a day when we have walked through Albert Dock without seeing visitors with their SLR cameras, in or out of season. As previously said it is not all about the Beatles, but even Bob Dylan took time out to visit John Lennon's home. Personally I would rather visit the Tate or the Walker art galleries, but you cannot unlink a city from its heritage. The city still has a hard edge but it is moving forward, too. -
I really liked my Streamliner but those valves - I know what you mean. With the possibility of a few gigs this year, I am picking up a Magellan tomorrow. I liked my Shuttle. I liked my Streamliner, a lot. So it is the obvious choice really.
I can see why some of you chose this stay home option. It's less work. I say if you don't like gigging your really not in this. Blue
I am new to this forum but feel I have to jump in on this one. After 9 years of playing in a covers band I can fully understand why playing to a room of drunk, aggressive Brits with their lets-get-legless culture might not appeal to some. Standing there watching the mayhem while stone cold sober eventually lost its edge. In my case age played a part but yes, I guess I'm no longer really in this.

Korg Pitchjack. It has an on/off switch, plugs straight into the tuner socket and does not cost much. Small and light, but large enough to be visible over the top of a typical class D amp. My minimalist solution.

Very late to the party but I have just watched 20 Feet From Stardom. Thank you so much for drawing my attention to it. Deeply moving in places.

May I suggest then that it has to be Bass Direct unless you take a trip to London.

I live near Stamford so I am interested in the advice given. I took a look at the Old Hat Guitars website and there is hardly anything there. It also looks to deal in expensive, vintage guitars which might not be what the OP is looking for. The last Facebook entry from the shop was in May 2015. To balance this a visitor describes the shop in glowing terms after visiting on the 22 January this year. So a great shop with a poor online presence? I travel down to Bass Direct in Warwick. It is a bit of a drive but you are not going to find a larger range of basses (not all are high-end) in the UK, I don't think.

Could his anger have something to do with this: "To this end, we’re becoming all-American built. Sure, we’ve got our German-engineering roots, and there will always be models built only in Germany.". Gosh, and thanks for the link walbassist. I'm jinxed. I only recently bought a Puma 500. Before that I had Genz Benz gear.
Was that a Trace head I spied atop his Aguilar rig? Had the 'green glow' but couldn't make out the graphic..
No, from his Facebook page that is the driver amp for his Porter & Davies KT (kinetic Transfer) platform.
