1.
Ah so you're still working on tweaks for it eh? External switches for the clipping options, or at least a hole to access the DIP switches without a screwdriver would be great!
I am 99.99% sure that I will probably not think about any further potential changes that I may be thinking about already... if you catch my drift! Diode selection will remain internal to keep the available selection large, though I am having a look at an access port on the bottom panel.
Say hypothetically I went for the knightfall 66, how would you suggest I use it? As a designated overdrive pedal to kick it up a notch from my standard tone, which includes a tech 21 vt bass? OR, would you use it in place of the tech 21 vt bass for warmth and suggest I look at another overdrive pedal?
It's designed to be a two-channel pedal, with a deliberately-shared EQ so that the second channel is a "more" rather than a totally different sound. It can be setup with one channel as your always-on "warm" sound, with the second channel offering a higher gain version of that same sound, or as an OD/Distortion with two levels of dirt. It really depends on what else you're using and whether you like to have an always-on OD really. I have used it in gig settings in both of the above examples. As you mention you want a dedicated overdrive, I would take that to mean you want to alter the tone when using that pedal, correct? If that's the case and you were using a 66 in that setup, you could go either way and either go for 66+VT or 66+VMT, for example. I know Danbowskill was running 66+VMT so he may be able to offer you some advice on that front!
Put tape over that work of art? Blasphemy!
I agree, lovely etch! Mods - as ever I've tried to answer questions regarding my stuff, but if I've overstepped any marks just give me a nudge
 2. Some very flattering comments on here, thanks very much Now I might be a bit biased, but the Knightfall 66 is every bit as good as those above have mentioned. I'm in the final stages of development with the production unit, and I hope to have that on sale at the back end of the summer/early autumn. This could quite easily be late autumn judging by delays in getting new products out historically, and I have thus far been particularly anal with the 66... In the mean time, I am still offering the prototype/mk1 Poulton custom version on request. Thanks again for the kind words!!
 3.
Got some already! Doctortweek only have 10n and 15n caps in stock, not sure how much of a difference that would make?
Put a socket in and then you're winning. Bear in mind that with that cap you're effectively setting the lowest corner frequency on the HPF when the Mids level is highest, so you may find that the lower frequency gives you more range. If you've not already, use Duncan's Tone Stack Calculator to map it. Consider whether you want a log or lin pot from that too. Also worth looking at is how the Blackout Musket mids control is implemented. I'm not a fan myself, but it's only a preference thing, and you may find it offers an interesting alternative. Have fun!
 4. Doctortweek for all your odds and sods needs :-)
 5. Hello all, I'm currently on day 4 of a pretty nasty case of the man flu, so depending how much I can get done between tomorrow and Friday night I may need to be working Saturday instead unfortunately. I will let you know for definite asap!
 6. Very reasonable price, going by the assumptions made above (no board-mounted jacks, replace the pots, new enclosure obviously). If the box was totally bare and unfinished then you're still looking at a couple of hours work if you want it done right, so factor in his time to actually do the work as well and it very quickly becomes reasonable :-)
 7. Great thread and great result, lovely looking board!
 8.
This is my current mini board, of clones Optical compressor > Pear OC-7 (octave) > SFT type overdrive > Mu-Tron Micro V filter > 'Prunes & Custard'
Always good to see a board of diy, some great choices too :-)
 9.
The thing is, once the 'highs' are cut from the oc-2, it loses the tonal charm that makes it so desirable, and the subs aren't as solid as, say, a sine or even triangle wave.
You'll not get much charm or character from anything low-passed at 80Hz. A/B it with an MXR BOD, Aguilar Octamizer etc and I doubt you'll see much difference honestly. Those pedals are all largely the same engine, just with different control sets. If you're processing the subs separately you can make it as simple or as complex as you like. As mentioned, the Density Hulk is ideal for this but can be an amp killer, but there are ways round it. Look at how proper PAs are designed, and the subs will be high-passed and limited to avoid damage to amps and speakers - that would obviously add more gear though... What cabs are you using? This will be pretty key too. My BFM cabs and most Barefaced cabs are designed and built to handle audio that low, but cabs I've had or used previously would struggle. Good luck with it
 10. South Yorkshire FTW. Welcome to the forum
 11. Alas I'm not doing mods or repairs at the minute, but I would message Umph on here as he is truly excellent!
 12.
I feel terrible selling this bud, hope there are no hard feelings!
None whatsoever matey
If I didn't have a special little Knightfall 66 already in the making I'd snap this up and flog my TFR! Bargain price for what's bound to be a remarkable dirt box, and one of Tom's proudest moments I believe! ... GLWTS Kev!
Al, You know where to find the Grand Tarkin if you miss out on Inertia
Your going to love the 66 bakerster135 ........IT'S ACE!as I imagine this would be awesome( if I didn't have a grand T on the way :-( )
Off-topic, but yours will be in the post to you next week Dan!
Kev, Sorry to be a pest and a complete doofus, but could you expand on the voltage requirement please. The info suggests it runs at "18v boosted internally". Does that mean it has a special power supply or can you use a 9v and the Inertia doubles it? Also, do you know what current it draws? I'm doing me sums as you can probably tell :-)
I'll check current draw and let you know. It's low enough that I can't recall it off the top of my head as it's not an issue!
 13.
I'm not entirely sure on how the clean and dirty loop work, what with one Jack and all? Can anyone enlighten me?
TRS Jack for both the send and return. You'd need a stereo-to-dual-mono cable, like this one...http://www.soundsliveshop.com/p/Hosa_STP-203_3m_Stereo_Jack_to_Dual_Mono_Jack_Y-Cable/HOSA-STP203?CAWELAID=1830895747&CAGPSPN=pla&catargetid=1831862285&cadevice=c&cagpspn=pla&gclid=CMrfhYnPsL0CFQ_HtAodeF8ASw
 14.
Damn it Tom, you know how I love my Rat distortion! Any idea on the pricing for the TK's and word on switching options?
TK-421 will have silicon/LED external switch, and a 3-DIP internal switch for the Filter range, the TK-421-X has the same 3-DIP for the range and has a 4-DIP internal switch for diode selection (symmetric and assymetric for both silicon and LEDs, though people can specify other options on ordering!)
 15.
excellent, this sounds like it'll do well (love the OC-2, and love the OC-07, but not been able to find one!!!) - how will the effects loop fit in, will it pre or post the octaves??
The effects loop will be parallel, so you can add your sub in under distortion, modulation, delay - whatever you fancy really!
also, any rough ideas when this one will be available??
Available now with custom etch, I've not got the artwork drawn up for this one yet but I've got three projects with T-65s on the go as we speak! I hope to have it on the website by the end of April ideally.
 16.
ooooh, very interested to find out about the delay! also, what's the T-65 octave???
The delay is very very early stages at the minute, but will have the usual Time, Repeats, Level knobs, Modulation Rate Ratio (ie set the speed against the delay time) and Depth knobs. Lots do to on that one, and it's a little way off before I'll be able to really dedicate some time to it... The T-65 sits among the Boss OC-2/Pearl OC-07 octave family, with knobs for Clean, Octave Up, Octave Down, Filter on the Octave Down, and an Effects Loop Level control. Same footprint as the Grand Tarkin and with north-mounted jacks to save space!
 17. Hello chaps, some very kind words above, thanks very much The TK-421 (Rat based) and the TK-421-X (Rat based bass beast - details HERE) are both available, and will be added to the site as soon as I get chance to get away from the workshop! Also being added to the site soon will be the Dual Tarkin, Dual Knightfall and the T-65 Octave, and down the line is a germanium boost (this is ready and available but lower priority than the others!), tap tempo analog delay, and an LPF I'm working on for Shep that may well become stock. I need more hours in a day...
 18. Leicester isn't too far from Sheffield, so if people were interested I can head down with some Cog Effects gear. If I can sort transport I'll happily bring two BFM Jack 15s (i have downsized cars and this rig is suddenly a lot less transportable!) - lots of rigs being brought already though so will leave if we are all sorted!
 19. Too. Much. Slap. Just played a Les Paul bass on the Promenade Music stand and am contemplating what story I could tell my wife...
 20. Heading down for the Saturday as gigging Sunday back in Sheffield, would be nice to try and put some faces to the usernames if I can!
 21.
never tried the tarkin, but it sure sounds good on the pedals & effects vid - if i didn't have the TFR i'd try one for sure...
Thanks
i don't see the appeal of blending with a muff... it's very much a personal thing I suppose, others have sent W&C muffs to Mat at W&C to add a blend, just because they like that sound if clean signal plus fuzz, but I really REALLY don't!!
I actually agree with you on this, and my loathing for traditional clean blend with Muff was the driving force behind creating (in my mind anyway) a better/different way of blending. I don't like that with a clean-blended Muff you will hear a distinct clean tone next to the fuzz signal - they just don't integrate and you hear two signals (clean and fuzz) rather than one big tone. On the Grand Tarkin, the clean signal is filtered to complement the fuzz signal and actually BLEND with it as opposed to just adding clean signal next to the fuzz. The stock Tarkin (the basis for the fuzz signal in the Grand Tarkin) doesn't need a clean blend, it has plenty of low end on tap just with other Green Russian-based pedals. The addition of this filtered blend to the Grand Tarkin was to allow the user to create new tones by exploring the dusty ends of the Tone and Mids controls, rather than just the traditional blending of clean in with the dirt. Mods - As ever it is not my intention to do so but if I've overstepped any lines here please let me know!
 22. The Push/Relax on the Mastotron helps when using active basses, but as has been mentioned above for most Fuzz Face-based circuits (Mammoth, Mastotron, Sun Face, Fulltone '69, MXR 108 etc) there really is no substitute for Passive Bass>Cable>Fuzz. You might get on fine with an active, and many many get on fine with the Mastotron and active basses. Shep's Meat Grinder fuzz is based on the Mastotron. The AMZ pickup simulator mentioned above can help, and is very simple to put together with even limited skills and tools. If you use actives then, in my opinion, you're better off with a Big Muff-based circuit. My standard Tarkin has been mentioned above by dannybuoy and his assessment is pretty spot on, the W&C TFR is much loved on here by active and passive users, as is the Fuzzrocious Stache - all three are Big Muff-based, with the first two picking out the Green Russian as their base. Si's assessment is also correct and I will happily cater a Tarkin to individual tastes Hope that helps, unfortunately there isn't really a way round the active bass/fuzz face dilemma that doesn't compromise either the fuzz or your tone when the fuzz is bypassed. Matt Bellamy has Manson guitars put a Fuzz Factory (also Fuzz Face-based) directly in some of his guitars so he can still use his wireless but get the best out of his fuzz too. That's not exactly the cheapest solution though, granted!
 23. I use two with 2515's and no tweeters in conjunction with an Ashdown ABM 500 head and am very happy with them. I'd like to get a pair of Jack 12's sorted at some point as well. The 15's aren't the smallest cabs in the world by any stretch, but they aren't massive either. Having played through cabs by Ashdown, Barefaced, Ampeg, Schroeder, MarkBass, Peavey and Marshall to name a few I can say that only the Barefaced Big Twin would move me away from my J15's. Obviously Sheffield may be a bit far for you, but if you or anyone wanted to bring their head or hear them through mine they'd be more than welcome.
