1. I thought he was a Warwick man through and through? Ah well, I guess if you throw enough money at people they'll play anything... not that the Yamaha is bad, just a BB is a long way away from his Warwicks.
2. Trade in progress. Thanks for everyone's interest.
3. Why compromise or take a gamble on getting a "good" Fender? For about the price of a US Fender you could get a hand made Japanese Bacchus which is built to a much higher standard. When you're spending that kind of money you should be guaranteed that every bass is a good bass with no stupid cost-cutting measures (those crappy routes under the scratchplate, for example). IMO, that kind of nonsense is unnacceptable. When you spend big, you should get something which justifies the expense, not something with blatant cost saving measures and inconsistent quality.
4. There's a deal pending on my one, so isn't a shamless plug, but I would definitley urge you to check out a Bacchus if you get a chance. In my opinion there is nothing as good for the money. I don't believe Fender are in the same league at all. I used to have a Lakland 55-02 and it was a great bass, but the Bacchus I've played have all been genuinely superb, a good step above the level of the Skylines. Factor in the poor performance of the dollar and you can get a truly great bass for a fairly standard price.
5. He'll need to declare a value to customs regardless and you'll get taxed on that amount. The gift thing only works to a certain value and then you get taxed whether it's a gift or not once it goes above that value. I think it's a couple of hundred euro over here, it's probably a similar value in the UK. Generally, instruments fall well above that threshold and customs are always weary of bass sized boxes being marked as a gift. I've never heard of anyone getting away with a guitar as a gift.
6. That's interesting news, there must be some queue waiting for production to start again.
7. Bacchus Woodline P Classic Probably my favourite of all my basses at the moment, this yoke just rocks.
8. Check out some of the Jaco dvd on youtube, he's playing a maple neck (granted it's a P neck but you'll get the idea) with a sunburst body.
9. Regardless of refin or not, £1359 is way too much for a 4001. Shop around and you should be able to pick on up for under 1k
10. Keep an eye on Ishibashi's u-box, their second hand section http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/u_box They come up frequently enough at unbelievably low prices, even after shipping and taxes. Great bass.
11. Monday morning bump. This is a boutique bass at a mass produced price. C'mon folks!
12.
Beautiful bass, but please please please, get it away from that bloody radiator
Yeah, not the brightest place to take a picture Don't worry, the radiator hasn't been on for months, this is kept in a case when not being played, it's practically mint!
13. Cheers Frank, shouldn't you be updating that sig? PMs replied to, I'd be looking for about €1100 for a cash deal, for anyone else asking.
14. Has someone else thrown a bag of money at him?
15.
Would you mind if I asked where you get them from man?
I had to trawl the web, ebay, wherever. They're absurdly hard to get for some reason. The web store I used to get them from stopped supplying them, so it's usually on ebay now.
16. Pics added. String spacing at the bridge is 18.5mm, not too wide, not too narrow. This one was built in July 2002, still in great condition.
17. I love them. They're bright and stay bright for some time. They're especially good as a low B.
18. Since the last one was so much fun (and you don't get offered junk for good instruments here like a lot of other places ) I've decided to offer up another one of the clan, see if it takes anyone's fancy. This is a hand made Japanese Bacchus Venus 5. It features a stunning bound slab ash body, 34" scale maple neck with a bound rosewood fretboard, no dots. I do believe it's nitro finished. Hardware is made by Gotoh and it's built like a tank. Bacchus pickups and pre, it's active, controls are vol-pan-treble-bass. It's got a modern jazz sound with a nice growl to it. I bought this because I have a Bacchus Standard 5 and the idea was to defret it because I like the Standard so much. However, when it arrived I couldn't do it, to take a pliars to this would be a travesty. Much and all as I love this bass, I don't need two pretty identical 5 string Jazz, so I'm ready to move this one on. Bacchus aren't really a secret anymore, these are the real deal top of the line basses. Their choice of wood is always spot on and everything has that touch of class about it. I'll put up more pics tomorrow. This bass comes with a Liteflight case. I'll ship anywhere, I'm in Ireland, as is the bass. I'm looking to trade - a bass for a bass - rather than sell, ideally something different to a J bass, something along the lines of a 4 string Sterling would be of interest. Any specific pics or information required, just let me know. Cheers, J
19. Starting in 1989 up to present day... Aria Pro II XRB I butchered this, refretted, three pickups, painted, learned a hell of a lot Aria Pro II Laser Electric I later made one fretless out of the two Aria basses ESP 400 Series Jazz still got this one Rickenbacker 4003 Loved the tone, hated the lack of contours for the wrist, sold it Ibanez SR3006E Prestige Great bass but I'm just not a 6 string player anymore. Sold it a couple of weeks ago Fender Jazz 1977 It's starting a new life this week Fender Jazz 62RI fretless CIJ really nice but sold it cos I just wasn't using it enough Bacchus Standard 5 My first Bacchus, battered but I love it. Hotwire Custom 5 Never as good a bass as it should have been. I'm currently renovating it, there's a great bass in there, just needs some tweaking Bacchus Venus 5 Bought with a view to defretting, but when I played the neck I couldn't do it, it's too nice Lakland 55-02 Bought off ebay at an absurdly low price. Never really bonded with it for some reason and sold it on. Unquestionably a great bass though and I miss it Bacchus Woodline P Classic I needed a P and I know I can rely on Bacchus. Great, great bass, this one.
20. Something like a Lakland 55-02 or a G&L L2500 would be worth checking out too, both very versatile basses.
21.
what you trade for?
Something that doesn't exist until I can post pics
22. Trade pending on this. Thanks for everyone's interest.
