1. Great bass. If I hadn't bought a SR1300PM a few months ago I'd have gone for this. Good luck with the sale.
2. What's witht he BBC bashing? You don't know how lucky you are!
3. First chorus in Sam & Dave's Soul Man. Oops Still an all-time classic tune.
4. I quite like his tone, even if it's not something I'd live with personally. He still had a lot of body, it wasn't a thin sound. A lot of the bridge pickup imitators have a weedy, ball-less tone but Jaco's still had a bit of ooomph behind it.
5.
Does anyone else find dissatisfaction with almost everything they get ?
Not since I accepted that every different bass has its own characteristics and one bass won't do it all. Now I just need one of everything
6. We play originals. If we ever broke even I'd do a little happy dance. We're clearly not doing it for the money As for covers, no money = no band. I never found playing someone else's tunes quite as enjoyable, would need something to replace the buzz of living or dying on the strength of your own songs.
7.
However, I just can't get my head around my Olympic White Precision with black scratchplate playing this sort of music. I just think punk. I guess I could put the tort plate on which makes it look cream coloured and more retro but in my head its my punk bass that I have slung low and play with a pick
Bob Babbitt, Motown bassist.
8. That sounds like a Precision would be exactly the bass to have. You're just looking for an excuse to GAS out!
9. Mint. Get mint on there.
10. I had a Behringer flanger, dirt cheap, which I sold to buy a Boss one. Big mistake, the Behringer was a much better sounding pedal, though I'd be nervous about gigging it's plastic case for as long as I've gigged the Boss. I've used one of their ADA8000 mic pre units in the studio for seven or eight years now and never had a bit of bother with it.
11.
I have two and am dying to play in company. Just lack confidence.
There's nothing to fear, just get out there and get stuck in. Playing with others will be the most exhilarating (and most infuriating) thing you can do as a musician
12. Search for some setup guides, there are countless ones out there. Read them, understand them, then examine your bass and adjust to your taste. There is no black magic at work here, just a series of simple factors which combine into something which seems to intimidate a lot of people. You can fix this if you just put a bit of time into understanding it.
13. I haven't had a bass gig in about 3 years, but I still classify myself as a bassist first and foremost and I do a fair bit of recording at home so I'm keeping 'em all, thanks.
14. Good man. Nice to see people digging something other than the standards!
15. Yep, but I do it with a small file and then several runs of fine grade sandpaper until it's smooth as silk. The only downside is when you pick up a standard instrument, you really notice the harsh edge.
16. From a gig last Friday and, before you say it, yeah I know.
17. Gah. I read three pages of that talkbass garbage before I simply had to stop to preserve my sanity... I just hope it didn't push something important out the other side of my brain
18. In: Ibanez SR1300PM Out: n/a
19. Over here the selection in shops is pretty crap so if you want to play anything other than a Fender, Ibanez or Cort you've got to be a little adventurous, I bought a second hand Bacchus 5er from Japan unseen, it was so good I bought another 5er, a P and three Bacchus guitars. Only sold one, the second 5er, because I wasn't comfortable enough with the slab body, the rest I will keep for life. I traded for a couple of Godlyke basses here and, again, I love them. They're keepers for sure.
20.
Ernies Balls
This.
21. Tony Thompson, Sean Reinert or Reed St. Mark.
22. Mine would be always do a quick search http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=118611
23. The reason I ask is because generally, for Metal, this
i EQ to taste removing any high end popping/twang and add a little gain drive to warm and thicken things up
often doesn't work in a live setting, especially if you've got guitarists who do a lot of low chugging riffwork and if your drummer is fond of double bass drumming - there can be a lot of instruments trying to fill the same low frequency space. I can quite easily see why an engineer might brighten up your bass tone in order for it to be heard, rather than disappear in a sea of low end mud. I can't access any of your links in work, blocked, can't hear your stuff so could be a mile off.
24.
its not a problem because like i said i DO go seek them out and explain what we want to them, but ive only ever come across a handful of soundguys who act like they are even remotely interested in what i have to say.
Fair enough. The guy last night, what did he say about what he did to your sound?
25.
he really should come and find out about us and our sound if he cares at all about what he is doing.
There's your problem.
