1. That's nice, never saw one of them before
2. Take the black bass out of the black case and then take that pic
3. If you don't build, they may not come. I don't know who they are, but we won't find out with that attitude
4.
Speaking of G&L, my revelation of the year was dropping an MFD into a Squier Matt Freeman, a sort of poor man's L1000. It easily holds it's own against my other (much more expensive) basses
Very nice. I see the little switch, is it serial/parallel or did you install more of the L1K wiring options?
5.
Humm, I'm going to sound stupid here but what exactly would count as 'Thrash' - I know its a sub-genera of metal but I've no idea which bands we'd be talking about here. Anyhow, probably glam for me as I like a nice bit of melody more than noisy hi-gain stuff most of the time.
The first rule of thrash is that it died in 1992 and nothing recorded thereafter qualifies, even if it does mimic the blueprint. There were some fine UK thrash bands back in the day - Acid Reign, Xentrix, Sabbat, D.A.M., Re-Animator, Slammer, Onslaught, Toranaga and more. Check them out, they're well worth hearing. Thrash was more than just the US bands who get bandied around all the time.
6. Doug is ridiculously good. I'm surprised to see him leave TE after all this time.
7. I was a thrash orientated youth. In hindsight, it's clear that glam had a fancier caliber of female so now I have my regrets. I'll happily listen to both these days.
8. Get a Precision and play with your thumb anchored on the arse of the neck with some treble rolled off. Keep the EQ on the amp reasonably flat. Most of it will be in your right hand technique.
9. I didn't find one and the kit got sold a couple of years ago... which did increase the potential bass storage capacity, or BASTCA, if you will.
10. Good stuff. Just make sure Guitar 2 doesn't feel like he's being picked on. As above, positive reinforcement all the way.
11.
Awesome! Yeah they've all got max 10cm... You got any pictures?
I have better pics somewhere I cant find right now, but it's the same kind of idea
12. Although I was born in the UK, I grew up elsewhere and this fascination with supposed "class" is equally fascinating and baffling. From the outside looking in it looks like a self-imposed categorisation which doesn't exist except in the minds of those who subscribe to the notion. I can't think of any other country where the social origin they were born into in would be factored into the potential or authenticity of a band. It's an amazing concept to think of yourself in that way.
13. Nicely done. I did something similar actually in the wardrobe. Give no more than 10cm to each guitar and fill it up.
14. Whatever song titles you come up with, put each word into a thesaurus and pick whichever synonyms have the most letters.
15. 1. When choosing ice cream, does your guitarist like it whipped or... scooped? 2. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being not at all, 10 being entirely, how much does your drummer think he is Neil Peart? 3. How much do I get paid? 4. How much do you get paid?
16.
Boo, did some digging and the E-Tuner (actually a Shadow product) doesn't go low enough for bass - bottom frequency response is 66Hz according to docs. No built in cleverness for me then
Play the octave harmonic.
17. 2 because it's better than 3. I wouldn't use one, it looks like there's too much wood missing where the controls will be and you need that area to be as solid as possible and, even though it'll be epoxied to bejaysus, it would still bother me.
18. Another cracker is Mehliana - Brad Mehldau and Mark Giuliana - it's jazz but with a serious electronic influence. Brilliant, brilliant album.
19. Esbjorn Svensson Trio are very listenable and a great way to dip your toe in. Dan Berglund played upright but he used effects, even distortion, from time to time. Svensson also ran his piano through a pod, they were really something special. Viaticum is a great place to start. 20. In what context, who am I, venue owner, manager, musician, etc?
21. I don't think it's as good as the first album but there's still a hell of a lot to like about them. Kotzen is a great singer. They're definitely one of the more interesting rock bands around at the moment.
