2.
Hmm now that i seen that pic i think it looks horrid :snob: Maybe a wee sticker would be far more appropriate
I've got a little Saltire in the corner of my amp grill. Subtle yet visible! I try and steer clear of things like that on my basses unless it's on the scratchplate and therefore easily replaceable. By the way, if it's for the bass in your avatar, don't do it! It looks amazing as it is!
 3.
Only cos a hard-hitting, rock'n'rolling Fender player would never be seen dead with a "baby blue" instrument: "What, that baby blue one? Pah. That's for wusses... What's that? It's Sonic blue?! Ah, gizza strap, fella. I'm firin' this sonic bad-boy up!" Yay for marketing.
To be fair Daphne Blue sounds a bit more feminine.
 4.
Check this out !! http://www.music-man.com/instruments/basse...stingray-4.html Do you know if they are available in UK europe yet ? You can get a new five stingray 2 band eq ??
I'm almost tempted to a five: http://www.music-man.com/instruments/basse...stingray-5.html
 5.
You know what brother...This really depends upon the relationship you have. Is this a wife with or without children? A live in girlfriend or just a lass you're dating? If my wife gave me that kind of ultimatum, she would have done so with full accepance of the fact that I would have given her an ultimatum on her pricy 4-day trips to Green Bay Wisconsin with her girlfriends to see her beloved Green Bay Packers football team. So there's no way on God's green earth that she would have thrown me an ultimatum like that. But that's our deal. We get to partake in our own activities without the other running interference. In my view that's how great marriages work. It's not only about the time you spend together. But the time you spend apart doing your own thing. Everyone gets to hang onto a bit of their own identity that way. So my view is that if someone actually received such an ultimatum from their spouse without some valid attenuating circumstances attached to it, (i.e such as small children to care for or an ailing parent to watch over) then I would suggest there is possibly a deeper set of problems trancending your gigs. It could be jealosy or mistrust on a different level. If it's just a girlfriend asking you to do this, then you might as well move on. There is nothing at stake here anyway. She's not going to change and when you marry her it's unlikly that she will ever be understanding. As a matter of fact, it'll probably get worse. If on the otherhand it's your wife asking you to do this, then I would hope there to be a good reason behind the request. (ie. That gigging significantly compromised my ability to be a contributing parent) If there isn't, then you tell her you're going to gig because that IS who you are; that IS who she married, and that she is more than welcome to join my wife on her next all ladies trip to Green Bay Wisconsin.
Wise words and good use of the word "lass"!
 6. Chili's, Flea, Naked in the Rain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c56GvyekbMQ From about 2:23. Fits in really well with a really funky and groovy song and isn't too long. I love it.
 7. I can normally find something visually pleasing about almost any bass I've seen but as a rule: Like: Basses that look like vintage American cars Dislike Basses that look like coffee tables.
 8. I can't find it but on a previous thread (possibly Band Image) some kind soul posted a link to some really bad band promo photos giving me much merriment. They might also give you some ideas of what not to do! Edited to add: Found it! 9.
I'm not buying another bass just to meet Flea. The cap thing is a possibility - if it's a decent looking cap. Any pics of the caps?
Both '96s, both 3EQs, both covered in fingerprints, both lovely.
 11.
Well - been and gone and done it. It was a really nice venue right on the canal in city centre Manchester and the function was a law firm's Christmas party. I wasn't looking forward to this one at all and arrived in an appaulingly bad mood - the drive into Manchester was tortuous thanks to Madness being on at the MEN Arena and Christmas shoppers and there was nowhere to park at the venue. Also, the harp player rang to say he was running very late cos he'd lost his keys and couldn't get to his gear so there would be no time for a soundcheck . We were asked to go on a bit earlier than anticipated so there was no set list prepared so the harp player made a few notes on a beer mat (no kidding). We started the first number - while they were still eating, and it took me at least 3 bars to figure out what key we were playing in. Despite all the embarrassing moments and lack of professionalism, we went down well in the first set Second set went well too but by now, approximately half the people had left or gone into another room so we were kind of playing for ourselves. Then, with about 3 songs to go, a load of people suddenly appeared from nowhere and started dancing and surprise surprise, a party had broken out. We finished to rapturous applause and left the stage only to be dragged back in to do a couple more songs as an encore and they were loving it. We finished the encore and were powering down when, out of the corner of my eye I saw the organiser walking towards us with money in his hand and thought "here we go, he's paying us off" but no, it was another £150 to keep going. So, I was wrong - we didn't go down like whaleshit. It ended up being a good night and we were paid a fairly obscene amount of money for a down and dirty blues band.
Good for you!
 12. I'd pick a promo shot of a band that you like and try to emulate it or do a pastiche of it. Nothing too cliched mind.
 13.
I left with a hand-solderer and a belly full of Guiness. Result!
I like your style! I'm probably gigging on the Friday and Saturday of that weekend and I'm off to Edinburgh for the Calcutta Cup the weekend before so I'm going to have to start working on Mrs HJ now for a chance to come to this bash!
 14.
OK, here's my 2008 SR4. I took some pics recently as I was thinking about selling. Turns out I'm a bit reluctant to part with it!
Ooooo! Tort pickguard on black. Mmm, I feel a pickguard change coming on.

 16.
Shall I go on about pay to play gigs again, you know, about choosing, managing and making the most of them, about non pecuniary benefits and about not moaning when you know the score? eh? Shall I?
Not if you use words like "pecuniary" that I have to look up.
 17.
i'd never buy one, but they do look really pretty, especially the seafoam green, sonic blue
I'd be right there with you but for the matching headstock. Not my taste unfortunately.
 18.
No problem - If you buy one, I'll happily kick it around a gravel carpark for you!
At a small cost.

 20.
Hi Al You have a fine blues band but If this is what you do and how you do it, you have two realistic options (other than totally revamp your entire set into a big scary entertaining pastiche of a blues band in action) Option 1: Run away. Tell the person looking to book you for a coperate gig that they will soon be looking for a new job unless one clear situation pertains: The big bosses wife loves your band. You and they may just get away with it then, just. Option 2: Take the money and be prepared for a somewhat uncomfortable evening.
Your band sounds great, I love watching youtube vids of other BCer's gigs. Anyone know if there's a thread about to post them in? Like the live pics thread? And for what it's worth I tend to agree with OG, and I veer towards option 1 myself when asked to do big corporate or wedding gigs that are going to be wanting "the standards". The band I'm in do exclusively 50s and 60s stuff and it can be uncomfortable as hell when the Head of HR or mother of the bride ask for Kings of Leon or some such. OG's wedding gigs thread is full of excellent advice for it all. I'll stop wittering now. Edited to add: You need a baseball cap too to match your bandmates! Edited again to add: Found a Thread of playing and gigs vids: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=61774
 21. Most places we play have a PRS certificate on the wall but only twice have we filled out a form with the songs we played, both times for a local festival. As far as I know it's the venue's responsibility.

Kind regards L A: How funny is that, not Q: Hi Paul, Does the hand smell of anything - does it have a rubbery odour at all? A: I don't know. It's all wrapped up to go. What difference does that make to either using it in a trick or as a display magic collection. Weird question. Q: Hi Paul, are the fingers fairly solid, or bendy? I would prefer if they were at least semi-solid and didn't bend under slight pressure, thanks A: I think that semi solid is the perfect description Q: Has it been used a lot..? and is it easily cleaned..? A: It was used in rehearsal, and then on one show. Cleaned? All I know is that it had a mark on it and I used plain water on a clean cloth to wash it off. It has been stored in a sealed box.
 23. The Duck and Drake is a great little venue! I've played there a couple of times. Is it Nige who booked you? The Sunday gig in this post in the "How was your gig last night thread" is the Duck and Drake.
