1.
I have the blue 60's CV P Bass and love it. I've gigged it with a couple of my bands and it sounds just right. There is something about a PBass that sits so well in the mix. I don't think i could go back to the hassle of lots of knobs and buttons etc Cheers Graeme
I'm massively GASing for that one in your avatar at the minute. I very nearly ordered one last night whilst drunk but resisted.
 2.
Def Parcels2go!!! ive used them loads and they have never let me down...very cheap too..
I think it was Parcel2Go that I used to ship a 1x 15 cab and it arrived safe but they never charged me. So very cheap!
 3. I've just sold a musicman stingray to the BC member thomastesselaar and the transaction went very smoothly. He is from Holland and the international bank transfer went though no worries. Excellent communication from him and I wouldn't hesitate to deal with him again. Sell to with confidence!
 4. It can go either way for me, sometimes I embellish, sometimes I simplify. I'm in a three piece band so if we're covering songs done by bands with more members, all three of us sometimes have to make it a bit busier to fill the gaps. Having said that, we all sing as well so we sometimes have to simplify our playing a bit in parts too. There's also the "I'll show off a little" factor which leads to embellishment (not too much though ) and when you want to get a song in the set quickly you start with a simplified bassline before gradually building up to the "proper one" the more you play it. The questions you ask are:

Do the punters recognise it as the tune you intended for the Sing A Long[sup]TM[/sup] that they're there for?
Is the dancefloor full?
The the answer to both is yes, no worries.
 5.
interparcel.com
I agree. Just posted a bass in a hardcase to a BC member in Holland. Insured it cost about £55, they collected Friday afternoon and it was delivered today.
 6.
It's got to me so much, I have gone out and bought another amp, one which I am willing to lend out. So I can keep my rig for myself, and provide a combi for anyone that needs to borrow.
I understand that you're under pressure here and that buying a spare amp would just "make it go away" but there is something to be said for standing your ground in these circumstances. How do these other bands rehearse if they have no equipment? I know it's easy to say on here "tell them to go forth and multiply" and harder in reality to actually do it but I think you're going above and beyond the call of duty on this one. You've been stung before, you're clearly uncomfortable about it, so to anyone who is asking, say this: "the last time I let someone else use my gear it got broken and cost me more than £800 to repair, so the answer is no. Sorry." If they question it say this: "I understand what you're saying but the last time I let someone else use my gear it got broken and cost me more than £800 to repair, so the answer is no. Sorry"
 7. I understand the practicalities of sharing a backline and I was happy for my amp to be used for it when I started doing those type of gigs where space was at a premium and changeover time was limited. It was all fine when each band on the bill were happy to contribute a bit and it was all by prior arrangement and everyone respects everyone else's gear. It didn't bother me much when we were headlining and all the others bands used our backline either, we got the decent soundcheck and you know the capability and how to get the best out of your own gear, again by prior arrangement and with the due respect for equipment. When it bothered me was if all our backline was being used and we weren't headlining, when within our band it was always me bringing my amp as our contribution, and the two occasions where my amp got damaged. That and when there was no prior arrangement for who was bringing what. I quickly learned which bands / promoters / venues / bandmates didn't live up to my expectations about sensible equipment sharing and developed a good few excuses when they asked: Sorry, it's being repaired. Sorry, I've got somewhere to be straight after Sorry, I'm coming on the bus to this one Etc. There is always the possibility that your stuff might get damaged if someone else is using it, regardless of how robust it might be, and even if they seem perfectly knowledgable and sensible when you're explaining the dos and don'ts. If you're not prepared for that, don't lend. Nowadays I'm in a covers band that doesn't have any supporting acts so it never comes up, when we play festivals we use the house PA and our own backline, the engineers at these things are pretty efficient at quick changeovers as are we so it's not an issue setting up and stripping down in a hurry. No-one has asked to borrow my stuff for their own gigs, but since we gig pretty often it probably wouldn't be available anyway.
 8. I've got one of these for that reason: http://www.deanguitars.com/acoustic_basses.php#eabc I like the bridge shape! It's fairly loud but like gareth hughes said it won't really be a match without an amp but it is serviceable for jamming in an acoustic setting with others if you use a pick and dig in a bit. Edited to add: in an acoustic setting
 9. Once in 17 years. I was holding a bass by its strings and shaking it up and down. The G went.
 10.
It might be an age thing, but since this link was posted, I'm having real difficulty dragging myself away from the site. I think it's only a matter of time before the order is placed.
I hope OG has shares in that comany because he's prompted many a sale on here! I for one have this one to look forward to on my wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks.
 11. But you're not looking to do an outright sale?
 12.
Public liability insurance is NOT compulsory. When they ask you for evidence of PAT testing - ask to see evidence of their IEE Wiring Regulations Fixed installations examinations. If they can't produce that tell them to f*** off.
I know I'm dragging up a very old thread but asking for this regulation (IEE Wiring Regulations Fixed installations examinations) has become my new favourite game. Recent victims are Leeds University and this weekend, the Holiday Inn chain. So much fun to be had! I owe you one NiceGuyHomer, I owe you big time. Kindest Regards.

 14.
The alternative would be to get a copy made of the existing Squier one, there are a few places which will copy a pickguard for you. That at least ought to be a reasonable match.
Thanks for the info. Any recommendations for places that would do a custom one from my current template?
 15. I'm in the process of pimping up my old warhorse Squier P Bass and one of the things I want to change is the pickguard to a tort one. I've used WD Music before for replacement pickguards for a couple of my stingrays and they've been fine but this one doesn't seem to be the right shape. WD Music have 3 variations of P Bass scratchplate and the only difference I could see was the number of screw holes so I carefully counted and the one that matched was the Mexican standard so I ordered that one. When I arrived I took the old one off and laid this one on the bass but it didn't fit in a few places: the "neck pocket" bit was too narrow, the bit that should cover the control cavity didn't and the holes for the pickups had rounded edges that didn't accommodate the square edges of the pickups that were there. I had assumed that all P basses were pretty much uniform in shape. Is this the case and the pickguard is just badly made or are there specific pickguard varieties for Squiers or do P Basses come in all shapes and sizes? Any help and advice is gratefully received.
 16.
Might be worth sending a PM to Higgie... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry470846
+1 Higgie's trans orange is a beaut! Edited to add: I will concede that this post wasn't motivated purely by altruism.
 17. Thomann are superb. Here's my story: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=659891
 18.
Thats me out. Backstabbing set of t**ts. Not nice at all, ive spent loads of money rehearsing. Guess they wont be ready for their next two gigs again then. I will make sure they know I know....and make sure I leave them in the sh**. To conclude, I didnt even get chance to ask them about this. All I did was explain I had 3 sets of family visiting over the next few weeks so I could only do one session a week. I am also very busy job hunting! Bit shocked at their appalling lack of honesty. That makes me look like an idiot.
That's really terrible of them mate, sorry to hear that. And +1 to S.P.'s point, they're the idiots, not you.
 19.
I think this is what you might be lookng for... - er, don't try this at home or on stage: Epic fail... PS I think it's actually a Sei bass that gets trashed... doh! M
I love these clips
 20. My new one: 2003 in Candy Red, 3EQ, Alder body, rosewood board (click to see em big!) A gratuitous sofa shot of all three: (The middle one's for sale!)
 21.
I think a guy on here told the story of how, at a corporate function gig, the MD was so shocked by the band's choice of music that he paid them to leave. Now that's rock n' roll, sort of
There was a thread a while back for tales of being paid off at gigs which I can't find at the minute but there was definitely a few examples!
 22. I've been asked to pay to get in once when it was a anarchist collective event kind of thing, I said no. I considered my playing as a contribution to the cause. For festivals, we'd get tickets to the fest as payment for the gig, how many depends on the fest size and our place on the bill. Tickets at £70 a pop for a fesival you'd go to anyway, I think that's reasonable.
 23. I tried to start calling mine nicknames with little success. I have a black stingray with black pickguard and rosewood fretboard that I wanted to start calling "The DarkRay" but it ended up being "that black one". The Trans Teal, white pickguard, maple neck was going to be "The SurfRay" but gets "that green one". And my new Candy Red, black pickguard with rosewood neck was going to be "The HotRay" (like HotRod ) but as you might've guessed gets called "that red one". You know what they say about good intentions.
 24.
I've played this show on two runs. Generally it's straightforward, some tricky rhythms in places, but lots of fun. And the band have to do a bit of acting at one point! "WE ARE, Killer Queen! ALRIGHT??"
Not to derail the thread but I've just been to see Dreamboats and Petticoats which is a musical filled with 50s and 60s music (all played and sung live on stage) that's held together with a fairly basic storyline. Excellent show and the band (who are on the stage the whole time) do a bit of acting too. Worth a look if you get chance. We Will Rock You sounds like a great show and a great challenge, especially if you're not a Queen fan! Good luck with it if you decide to give it a bash
