1. If yours was a 6 string like that one I would be driving down to your place to collect it now!!! (assuming you are in the UK). GLWS Brendan
2. Has anyone tried the T-Rex SoulMate on Bass? It combines overdrive, fuzz, delay, verb and seems a good idea. There also seems to be an acoustic version coming out which may work for Bass? Or GFB they might make a Bass specific version!!! Brendan
3. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
4. Status do a 25 on the six string sets so you could make 25,35,55,75 say for an A to C bass? Edit they actually do a 20 in the custom double ball range. B
5.
Wake up, take heroin, meet junkie girlfriend, take more heroin, watch the day pass by, take more heroin. Allegedly.
"Allegedly!!!" As someone else on this thread said the interweb if full of None Humble Opinion "interpretations" of art... Lou was not an allegorical hidden meaning writer when he wrote a love song to Heroin it was called "Heroin'! listen to The "Berlin" album for straight talking darkness! Sorry to OP if thread drift B
6.
I suppose I could make a list of songs that are either gratuitously, in-your-face offensive, or which cover very dark territory indeed but do so in unexpected ways (e.g. Perfect Day, by Lou Reed).
Perfect Day? - Day out, Feed animals, Movie, Home?
7.
The fact there is a song written about this topic and that it is regularly performed, does not mean that anyone who performs it condones slavery, rape or prostitution. These are topics it is important to actually talk about and for them to be present in our society as a pointer back to the past, and for it to be ok to be talked about. Sweeping it under the carpet is the wrong thing to do. What about all the millions of women who are still in slavery and sexual slavery today? This topic still needs to be in the public eye. Are we supposed to ban the Blues? That is how I would talk to a disgruntled punter about it anyway.... http://www.globalslaveryindex.org
Big +1 to this
8. On the "website" is not in the advertisements or dealer POS sites. I am very happy with my Protec and if I need another bag in the future this is what I would buy. Brendan
9. See my thread about Mono for 6 string. I ordered a Contego from Thomann in the last few weeks for about 60 quid (the Euro fluctuation changes day to day) (Sorry to the UK dealers I normally try to support but as said the difference on these is massive!) Brendan
10.
Reference, please.
+1
11. Thanks to Ambient for the advice. I have just received a Protec Contego on a great deal from Heir Thomann. It is perfect for my needs. 6 string in Contego 4 sting in Vertigo over other shoulder Sweet!!! Bren
12.
Tell you a great bag for 6's or even basses with more strings, the Protec Contego. http://www.bassdirec...Gig_Bags_2.html I had one and they're amazing, better than the Mono in fact. Also the grab thing is adjustable, you can move it about in the bag, it attaches using velcro, and it's a strap that wraps around the neck, rather than the pad thing in the Monos. I only sold mine because of the weight of them, I was travelling to London 3 days a week by train. I also had a Mono M80, but they were too deep with the front pockets. They wouldn't fit into the overhead luggage racks on Virgin trains.
Thanks for that, bit cheaper too BONUS!! I just need for car & short walk to open-mic session so if weight = protection then thats fine. Brendan
13. Oh yes yours does fit much better. When I zip my bag up the back of the bag has a large lump & the whole bag looks twisted! My 6 String Basses are Status Graphite. I wonder if Mono are working on an adjustable headlock thing? I may get a M80 with strap for my 6s & use Vertigo for 4s 'cos all in they are great bags! Brendan
14. Here are a couple of (poor sorry!) pictures to illustrate first is 4 string fitting snug, then a 6 basically not fitting!
15.
Not trying to be rude, I've just been puzzling how it wouldn't fit when all of mine have. The bass is meant to face forwards, so the back of the neck goes against the narrow bit of the headlock thing.
Yes a 4 string fits into the groove & is cosseted by the bigger aperture the other side, a 6 sits atop the headlock groove & is pushed down on it from the other side. Look at the lump on your case where the headlock is & look how the headlock is being squashed! Not a correct fit! Bren
16.
I live in Manchester and am never going to another MEN gig at all, I much prefer to spend my time in smaller venues supporting smaller artists and venues that actually care about the experience, like The Ruby Lounge, The Deaf Institute, The Albert Hall etc.
+1000 Bl**dy awful place! Awful sound, Awful ambiance & they treat you like cattle!!! However to OP I saw Radiohead at Old Trafford a few years ago and it was the best outdoor gig sound I have ever heard? Someone says Old Trafford has been redevelop though so if this was not a one off another venue I won’t be going to!!! Brendan
17.
Thats worth knowing... I assume the sleeve will have the same issue? I have an M80 but was thinking of going for the sleeve, maybe not now!
Yeah I am sure the "sleeve" has the same system as Vertigo M80 seems to have a strap? So that fits 6's then? Bren
18. I have a Mono Vertigo case I got from Strings Direct. It is fine for 4 string bass BUT my 6 Strings do not fit because of the "head-lock" thing it is way too narrow for a 6 and pushes the neck forward contorting the bag & I contest putting strain on the neck. So 6 Stringer consider another Gig Bag... Brendan
19. Jonas Hellborg with Mahavishnu John (No wonder he plays them hollow basses now!!!) Brendan
20. Don't SVT 8x10s do a similar thing? Well you said you wanted portable!!! B
21.
Of the three replacements and one rumoured in previous years: Tony Levin - brilliant, played his 'funk fingers' for most all the Squire parts, worked well with Bruford Billy Sherwood - ok sideman on guitar for Yes tour few years ago, not sure about bass Jeff Berlin - Great player, wrong for Yes - disdain for the music, no sense of rock tone or Chris' phrasing Jon Camp - Lined up for ABWH but Jeff Berlin got it. Addresses both JB's defects above...
But there is only ONE Chris Squire!!! Wishing Chris all the best & sending love & strength for the fight ahead Brendan
22.
I find FretWraps more flexible than a foam mute as you can adjust the amount of mute more precisely.
Don't they just mute open strings? I can't see how they can mute fretted notes like a Foam mute??
23. It was not in Off-Topic this morning -- I never go in there B
24. What happend to todays thread about BB Kings passing?
