2. like it and love the mirrored plate. Now all you have to do is make sure you have a light shining at it when you are on stage
Heh! I have to admit ignorance here and tell you that I don't know who Phil Lynott is! <--- Classical/Jazz musician!
he's the bloke who married Leslie Crowther's daughter.
 3.
I'm still waiting.
if you got to ask, you ain't never gonna know
 4. I've used a Hartke 4x10 combo in a rehearsal studio and got a great tone I liked. But at the SE bash I jammed with the drummer through a GK 400RB head (think that was the model - definately a GK though) and for me it was so much better. I like a big fat rock tone and the low mid punch on the GK was exactly how I like it. There's a lot of love on here for both Hartke and GK, ultimately the only right choice is the ones your ears make.
 5. hey welcome! don't forget to put pics of your Zoot in the Iceni thread
 6.
At least they don't take themselves too seriously
"this can colour the sound and the mood from demurely subtle to wantonly filthy"
 7.
Phew! That's not too shabby at all for your first four years! I wonder what the next four will bring?!
budget bassist? not from bass 4 onwards
 8.
Strange thread this- like what is overated?- seems to me this thread is about technique not musical ability. Theres a quote on here that says Jamerson would be a better bass player if he played with two fingers- no doubt some bright spark will say he would be better if he slapped or double thumbed. Both suggestions however will miss the point its not how you play but WHAT you play. There will never be another as successful as Jamerson and his music will be listened to in 100 years- same as the beatles and mozart. Can you say the same about Level 42 ( I still think Mark King is a terrific bass player though) - but its just chops. Bob
the Jamerson thing was possibly me? My post was in reply to Jamerson comments before, and I stand by it. After Motown he didn't get the work due to his style. In no way was I saying he was overrated, but if he had adapted - which he was unwilling (unable?) - to do he might still be with us making great music. Jamerson with one finger has his place in history as a musical and bass playing genius/colossus. Jamerson with a picking hand technique to match his musicality would probably have kept working and still be with us.

 10. It's a genuine Les Paul copy
 11.
The technique that you seem to be using sounds,to me,like what Bernard Edwards used to call 'chucking'. I believe he did it on the middle section of 'Le Freak'.
so I'm not being lazy, I've just been directly influenced by Bernard Edwards. That works
 12.
That's my gigging machine - a 1963 Precision with added Di Marzio J pickup. I started playing seriously the same year but it's in slightly better condition than I am. It's natural wear, not yer reliced by a kid with a carbide disc.
13.
First, the bad news. Stupidy, I thought it would be OK to perch my Walkabout head on top of Born 2B Mild's Genz Shuttle, on top of two Barefaced Compacts. And it was fine. Until it fell off: The damage... well, it doesn't work! Bent handle, and buzzing when you fire it up. It hums when you apply pressure to the front panel.
00.27secs "oh dear!" Nah seriously I feel your pain and can empathise, hope it can be sorted easily. What was the mojoed looking P leaning against then GK rig?
 14.
Got mine from WH Smith today, there's a small feature by ped on the BC SE Bass Bash, with photo.
can someone scan and post it? ta
 15. can only remember one, a few years ago (6) at the Garage in that London. Not particularly friendly but she did us proud soundwise - we sounded great - so can't complain. I remember they had some signs around the band areas along the lines of 'we don't care if you're David Bowie, our job is to get the bands on then off and we're not gonna take crap from you or your sh1tty little band'. Anyone else remember that?
 16.
so we'd "earned" around £1200 for less than an hour's work.
obviously all this money was declared to the taxman
 17. was gonna get tickets for Wembley Arena, then saw the cheapest were £55.00 before all the charges were added. Feck that Mr's Stanley and Simmons, I'm gonna go see Cetera and Dressed to Kill instead

 19.
Well folks looks like you are all wrong ! And it is now official ....Guitar and Bass magazine has just voted it best sub £500.00 bass and that was with a list price of £440.00... I think it says more about the magazine than the bass , and I for one will never read , let alone buy the said magazine again. I find it really sad (bearing in mind newcomers to bass would look to such a magazine or indeed parents looking to buy a bass for an offspring for christmas) that they have the audacity to print such utter crap......obviously they must get a lot of advertising revenue from the distributor, shame on them
perhaps they should be sent a link to this thread?
Here's mine, it's a PJ Performer which I'd been eyeing up in the window of the Bass Gallery for a while. I'm no expert by any means but this bass feels and sounds absolutely excellent to me, I'm a short-ass and can't deal with the size of Fenders, so I've been looking for a PJ with a more manageable body size and weight, and this is perfect, I couldn't be happier with it. I like it so much I've gone all fanboy-ish about it. How come they stopped making these? Their website looks like nobody's been near it for about 8 years.
SWEEEEEEEEEEET! Yeah I don't think Mike has ever put quite the attention to detail that he does for his basses into his website
 23. not any help, but that was the first single I ever bought
 24.
I know what you mean - but it's someone else's grotty residue! I wouldn't mind if it were my own...
25. sweet
PS: anyone know the best way to remove those unsightly stains on the edge of the neck (where the varnish has worn away and nasty sweaty grubbiness has taken hold...)
I'd say leave them, adds a touch of mojo.
