Guild B302

Used to have a black vintage Guild B-301. Looked and sounded great. Sweetest set up I've had on a bass, the action went soooo low. Neck like a Warwick though

    Wham
Did you twig about ridgley being the stooge?
Unfair and wrong. If it hadn't been for Ridgely, not only would there not have been Wham!, but there wouldn't have been George Michael either. He co-wrote some of the early stuff, and was responsible for launching Georges solo career by asking George if he could do something with some music he had written. That song became Careless Whisper.
  4. At the moment I have a Shuker on order (within the next 4 weeks hopefully!) and an Iceni Zoot. These are high end custom basses, but I find myself gassing for a Dean Zone bass (pink), Dean Metalman Z, and Squire Classic vibe P - basses below and above the £200 mark. Maybe it's a case of, if you have steak at home everyday sooner or later you're gonna want a big greasy burger?

    Wham

Never liked Wham! at the time (remember the exclamation mark) but think they are quite awesome now. Edge of Heaven is my fave bass line, but so many are good.
  6.
A couple of weeks ago I had put some DR blue coated strings on it.. most bassplayers really didn't like the look. I thought it looked kinda cool...:-)
I'm the only person on Basschat who doesn't like Wals, but that looks sweeeet!
  7. It's an old argument, one where effects pedals are called talent boosters. Well let's see you get a nice chorused sound with a touch of delay from your fingers, is what I used to say. Anyway compression rules! Nice big phat bass mmmm...
  8. I got some studio monitors from them. The packaging looked a bit grotty but they work fine. Could have returned them, guy on the phone was very helpful, but no need. The only problem was, they were delivered when I wasn't in, so I had to pick them up from the delivery depot, which was 10 miles away. They still work fine, and were a great price.
  9. yep, they are soon on tour. I think the original soundtrack album was re-recorded at some point too.
  10. I saw this on Partysounds, not my thing but might be a heads up for someone on here? The band seem quite established, they've done TV appearances in Europe, and offer a 3 month paid retainer? WANTED: male/female Keyboard Player and Bass Player for Livan, a Prog/Rock band signed with Pumpkin Music. Needed for gigging/rehearsals. A 3 month paid retainer, starting asap. If interested please contact with influences, experience and a photo. . . http://www.myspace.com/livanmusic
  11. What bass is Nicky playing on Later? It looks about like one of those cheap Italian jobs, but I don't think it is? here's a pic and here's one I tried to get of the headstock
  12. 12stringbassist - nice collection!
i bought a charvel star not long ago i like the sound (seymour duncans p+j ) but it is attracted to hitting things being so pointy plays fine though and no balance issues here it is in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbT8_Lx_fx4...re=channel_page
Down strokes all the way! Sweet bass. I just did a Google and am sorely tempted by this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Charvel-Star-Bass-Ve...6QQcmdZViewItem
  13.
You know what they say about small hands?
small gloves?
  14.
Thats a bit of a bummer!
Another one due Friday But, I've been discussing the thumbchum with Jon. As the top of it will be the thumb rest - so the right hand position can be anywhere from the bridge to the neck - I want to make sure it's not too high. Jon is going to keep it at pretty much equal to the top of the p pup. There's a slight curve to the top, you can see on the pic, but Jon said he might be able to reduce the width a little if needed. I'm prepared to trust his judgement on what is comfortable, and I've told him I've got small hands
  15.
+1 for the MU cover, even though it only covers you as an individual. I've got this and I'm covered for whatever band I play in...I try to encourage everyone in bands I'm a part of to join the MU just for the free liability insurance and free instrument insurance - some people are reluctant because of the cost of being in the MU, but if a band needs insurance, it'll have to be paid for in one way or another.
The MU subsciption is cheaper than any insurance premium I've found - and reading the small print to find a policy that actually pays if things get nicked/damaged! I'm getting the student rate which is less than a fiver a month. I think that is amazing value.
  16. nice one Woodster! I saw one of Neville Staples solo gigs last year. I'm a metal-head (old school!) but I had a great time. The man's a legend! BTW I hope Platypus doesn't mind us bumping his thread. Remember tickets for sale!
  17. I've got a body, that I intend doing things with, but maybe not for a year or so - possibly longer. Do I need to make any special effort for storing it, or is the back of a cupboard good enough? BTW it is a bass body!
  18.
cetera would be the man to ask
Yep the man from the Pru, er I mean PRS!
  19. This might force some good deals on the old stock?
  20. Poor old Jerry Dammers. He's been keeping the Special's torch alight for how many years, playing all kinds of dives, and now when they're playing decent venues again where is he?
  21.
- I've provided the English translations as well.
Was it Oscar Wilde, something along the lines of 'England and The United States, 2 countries divided by the same language'
  22.
Is that not numerical? As opposed to 3 quavers to the beat, and 12 quavers in the bar. I think my post was a bit confussing, sorry Garry
If we are talking about 1/8 notes, then wouldn't you expect there to be 8 of them? In 12/8 I think explaining 3 1/8 to the beat, and 12 1/8 to the bar, is more confusing. In 3/4 there are 6 1/8 notes per bar, it loses all sense once we move out of 4/4. I'm happy using the conventions developed over 1000 years of written notation .
