1. started on 4, went up to 6, came down to 5, and now happily on 4 but with an extra 2 frets on my E string for a low D.
 2. Back in the early 60's I had an audition with a 4 beat combo from Liverpool. I was offered the gig, but they were planning on doing some gigs in Germany for a while which I didn't fancy, so I turned them down. I often wonder what happened to them...
 3. Fighting Talk - awesome! Can't say I've paid enough attention to the music to notice. sorry for the thread hijack, but does anyone know what Ricky Gervais intro music was on the 11 o Clock Show?
 4. another +1 for the MU. PLI and £2k's worth of instrument insurance too.
 5.
That's fantastic! Great stuff, Colin
+1 everyones a winner!
 6.
I'm going to stick to my guns on the 'mostly' pointless though because I don't think it expands the bass vocabulary beyond music you couldn't play using more 'traditional' techniques. Discuss?
If you can do it, it's another weapon in your arsenal. Sometimes a bit of varience from 'traditional' techniques can be quite effective. It's not something that can only be used in a solo situation, adapting technique within a song for certain passages can sometimes add to it.
 7.
Main thing to remember is..........if you have a one knob compressor on your amp it's "b*ll*x"!
8. when he played Kubicki's he extolled the virtues of the drop D, so I assume this - or at least his - will have a Hipshot? I've always liked the necks on basses Stu played, he must have wee hands like me!
 9. Had a great time as always, and as always didn't get to do everything I wanted or to chat to as many people as I would have liked - but that's what the next Bash is for! The organisation is fantastic. Been able to wind a rig up in the 'loud room', play with a drummer and guitarist in the 'jam room', and try out gear in the 'quiet room' and worshops in the theatre, great gear and great people. Mucho thanks to Clarky for the lift, and to Urb for my impromptue lesson in slapping! My thanks too to the organisers and workshop guys. How much did we raise? BTW I still don't understand compressors, but now thanks to s1m0n I don't understand them in a far more scientific way
 10. i love this thread. I'm living vicariously through you all as my gigging situation is somewhat dire at the moment
 11. sure colour matters, just as looks do. What Truckstop said really. I do like none standard colours though. Why would you want to be like everyone else?
 12.
Not surprisingly, due to his impending broken leg operation, Happy Jack will not be coming along to the BassBash
13.
Oh no it hasn't.
oh yes it has!
 14.

Saw them headline at one of the F*ck Reading's in the 90's, great gig.
 15. wowzers! how does it feel, weight and balance-wise?
 16.
I feel sorry for Tim PS, I've bought and sold around 5 basses on BassChat in the past two months
from Tim?

 18.
USA mate, and he has 2 of them, I found them both for him
ok, will have to settle for pics of him gigging it. If you'd be so kind as to keep us informed...
 19. whereabouts is he? If he gigs with it I'd love to see it!
 20.
Let's look at it another way: Ludwig van Beethoven, one of the most revered composers in music history. He had lost all his hearing ability by the time he wrote some of his greatest works (such as the late quartets). My question is, would these works have been any more interesting, thrilling, or more accomplished, if he had been able to hear a goddam thing?Well. we'll never know, but does that in any way throw doubt on the assumption that in general it's better for a musician to have good hearing than to be stone deaf? Does it mean that wearing ear-plugs to protect our hearing is a waste of time? If you can't be arsed to learn to read music, that's really up to you. But please spare us the b/s "reasons" as to why it doesn't matter. I doubt you're convincing anyone, even yourself
Mahler though so which is why he reorchestrated some of Beethoven's works. I like to paraphrase Pratchett 'going deaf for Beethoven didn't stop him hearing the music, it just stopped him hearing the distractions'.
 21.
He certainly wouldn't be any worse.
this
 22. looking good
 23.
Steve Harris from Iron Maiden is famous for playing with his nails
is what I was gonna say I keep the little finger nail on my picking hand a tad longer, for hard staccato strumming - usually end of song posing.
