Snap. I'm not a fan of PJ's (insert a joke about sleeping in the buff) but I do own one, a G&L SB2 Tribute. I only really have it because the don't make an SB1 Tribute and I don't use the J pup. I do think a fretless works better as a PJ though.

Is indeed, they're the light gauge for short scales. It's the only short scale I've ever owned, but the scale length and light gauge make it a lot of fun to play.

I went really light........43-100 on a P & Ric and then 43-106 on my SG.

I had a set of Fender flats on a PBass (think they were the 50s?) and thought they were quite high tension. I don't have any exact info on tension, but my finger tips on my right hand would hurt after a 3hr practice. I now use TI Jazz flats anytime I want flats and find them much easier on the fingers.

There are plenty of people here who feel the reverse, so you may be able to buy a Jazz and find someone who wants to swap necks with you?

I've had mine on wall hangers for the past few years without any issue and would say you can't go wrong with the Hercules. They're really well made, come with an insert for thinner necks, have a guard to prevent them coming off the hanger accidently (good for grabby kids) and the holder rotates so you can hang a different bass/guitar on it and it'll still hang straight. Just make sure you're hanging them on a sturdy wall and you'll be fine.

The G&L JB is thicker back to front and rounder in the hand than the current Fenders. It's still 38mm at the nut though, so might not be exactly what you're after.

I think there's a place for both. I prefer a jazz for my heavier stuff and think the single coils probably help the thicker distortion sound a bit less muddy. The precision just fits though. In a band setting it just cuts through nicely and sits in the mix pretty perfectly. I used to think P's we're boring and avoid them but they're pretty perfect. I've even got the silly notion in my head that I need another one so I can have one for flats and another for rounds. I do prefer a jazz neck though and the P I have has a jazz neck.

I think the metallic shell pink will go really nicely with your new purple Gotoh, so that gets my vote. If LPB were in the mix though........

Reverend - release a Sensei bass. Fender - give the Jaguar bass it's own identity and whack a couple of fat humbuckers in it.

Rotosound 66 swing bass for me. Doesn't get much more zingy.

Gibson - reissue the grabber/ripper/G3. And also sort out their pricing so they don't cost 2k. Fender - release a Vintera 70s PBass with 40mm neck and 70s voiced pups. Anyone - release a decent unmarked fretless for about 600ish and don't make it a burst jazz with no scratch plate.

They're really lovely basses and capable of being a lot punchier than your every day hollow body, though they do that well too! The necks are comfy and they're pretty light, as such they have a tendency to go south. It's not bad and neck dive isn't an issue for me, but it's nothing a suede back strap can't sort if it really bothers you. The only thing that takes a bit of adjusting to is the shape as they're pretty big and wide, so it means you just have to adjust your playing position. It's no biggie, but it might start off as feeling uncomfortable until you find what works for you.

The new colours do look great and I appreciate that the tuners are one of the main selling points but.........I think they're the worst thing about them. I'm sure they're great, but I'm just not a fan of that style tuner on a retro looking bass. If there was a P coming out with a roasted maple board then I'd be pretty tempted though

They do look pretty cool! All of those colours look great (I'm not normally a fan of sparkly finishes, but that purple is ace) and at only £199 they're pretty tempting. *Reminds himself he has a Jazz and doesn't need another one*

Lovely bass! I think that and the buttercream are the 2 best colour options in the Player series
