  1. Loverly bass! And it is a US model. As well as having US pups, you can spot the US models as they have spiral bridges (apart from the 70s reissues) and have the tuners with the large bass plates.
  2. There's also Fiona Kitschen from Tropical F-uck Storm.. And Hiro-chan, from Otoboke Beaver....
  3. Billy Corgan seems to have a thing for female bassists. As well as those already mentioned, he's also played with..... Ginger Pooley.... Nicole Fiorentino.....
  4. I really used to hate the headstock when I first saw the Sire range. Now I just don't like it 😁
  5. I've heard good things about the LeBass! It'd be a bit excessive to get another pre if you're happy with the LeBass, but you could get a MiM, set of GZRs and a preamp for £800ish?
  6. Same here, Aaron's tone is pretty gnarly. Get yourself a Sunn Beta bass pre along with your new bass and you're there!
  7. If you want a more aggy PBass then you could pick up an older SB1.......? Or just whack some EMG GZRs in whatever PBass you pick up. I think they're based on Geezer's 70s PBass pups, so are a bit more toppy.
  8. I'd always heard this, so had written them off whenever one came up near me, despite being really interested in the MFD pups and liking what I had heard from vids/reviews. I played one the other day and didn't think they were too bad. Despite being chunky at the nut, it didn't feel too deep front to back. Now I'm kicking myself for all the ones I've missed out on!
  9. The P5R is pretty tasty in natural..... If they did that body with the roasted maple neck then I'd be very tempted!
  10. The 70s PBasses do it for me in both vids, they just seem to have a bit more bite to them and sound like they're snarling their way through a song!
  11. I've got your back on this. I really like the headstocks and can't see what all the fuss is about. If it comes to a fight we can use the headstocks like a pointed stick!
  12. There's been some great players mentioned already, I'd throw Georgia South from Nova Twins into the mix as well. She has some ace lines/riffs and plays with cool effects too.
  13. Do you have any preference on neck (size, finish, frets) or tone? Generally they're all PBasses, right? So you're going to be in the same ball park tone wise. I played a Vintera 50s P and Player Series P the other day in guitarguitar. The Player Series was a more modern hi-fi tone to my ears and a bit clinical. The Vintera was rounder sounding, but still had some grunt to it - I really liked it. The only thing that put me off was the neck as it's quite a chunky boy, its thin back to front, so not unmanageable, but still quite wide in the hand, especially down the dusty end. I've sold basses with thinner necks because of that issue, but it still doesn't stop me wanting to buy one! Who goes up the dusty end on a P Bass anyway?!?!?! If I was looking at a P Bass I'd be thinking about 2 options......... MIJ PB 70US. Lovely necks (40mm - the same as the Nate Mendel) that are a dream to get around. Gloss finish and thin vintage frets, which I really like. Ace workmanship and US pups/hardware. G&L SB1. The MFD pups can be lovely and vicious, but there's loads of play in them and they can be gentle too. I always keep an eye out for them in the sale forums here and they don't come up too often. I don't even think many shops stock them over here, so if you wanted to go full fat US then ordering from the States might be your only option. You'd get a load of custom options if you did this and @Ricky Rioli would be your man to chat to on how best to go about it. If you wanted the cheaper option then pick up a G&L Tribute SB2. Same bridge and MFD pups that are in the US models, with an added J pup for more bite. What @Lozz196 doesn't know about PBasses probably isn't worth knowing 😃
  14. I had the exact same problem when I first picked up a J. It took me ages and lots of playing around with pickup height, blend an EQ'ing before I got to a place where I was happy with the tone. My J is a G&L Tribute JB and I eventually upgraded the pups and loom and am now even happier with it. It sounds like a series parallel switch could be what you're after, it does change the tone of a J completely so it's almost like not having a J at all, but I like using it in certain songs where I want more bottom end.
  15. I think if we knew the answers to the following then we might be able to get you some more meaningful suggestions..........What have you got at the mo (complete signal chain) and what's wrong with them, what are they missing from the tone you want? Aaaand, what is the tone you want? The answer might be more to do with some EQ options or a pedal rather than picking up new pups. However, not too long ago I replaced the pups in my Jazz and looked at a few, spending countless hours on YouTube to try and get a gauge of the choices out there. My favourites were...... - DiMarzio Model J. Hum cancelling, ceramic humbuckers. These sounded really beefy, but not quite like a trad Jazz. - Fender Pure Vintage 74. These are one of the most middy J pups around, so will cut through and add some horrible aggression to your tone. Love em! I went for the 74s and couldn't be happier with them. You could also talk to ki0gon on here and get one of his looms (maybe even look at that first as it'd be a cheaper option), I added one of those with a tone bypass (for more agg!) and also a series/parallel push pull. That really adds more beef to the tone and my J is now a monster!
  16. Killer on the loose - thin lizzy welcome to my nightmare & feed my frankenstein - alice cooper like a nightmare - motorhead voodoo & i put a spell on you - screamin jay hawkins dead man's party - oingo boingo zombie zoo - tom petty witch's egg - danny elfman monster mash walk like a zombie - horrorpops god's away on business - tom waits devil in disguise - elvis people are strange - doors/echo & the bunnymen black magic woman - santana zombie dance & i was a teenage werewolf - the cramps (pretty much anything by them tbh) don't fear the reaper - blue oyster cult evil - howlin wolf no more hotdogs - hasil adkins spooky - dusty springfield ghost town - the specials richard hung himself - di body bag - nomeansno we must bleed - germs code blue - tsol
  17. I haven't played the JB2, but I did compare a JB vs a player series Jazz & Classic Vibe J. There wasn't loads between them in terms of quality, fit and finish. I preferred the feel and sound of the JB, so went for that in the end. I'd always be tempted by a G&L Tribute over a MiM Fender, their bridges are better and they tend to be loads cheaper with not much (if any) difference in quality. If you don't like the pups then you can always get new pups and loom and it'd still be cheaper than the Fender. I don't know what the neck on the JB2 is like, but the JB is fuller and more round in the hand compared to the player series. Personally I like it.
  18. I do love that Etta James tune and want to add it to our set. This cover of it from Larry McCray is a cracker too...
  19. Both of my Precisions (MIJ Hama Okamoto sig & G&L SB2 Tribute) have jazz necks. I prefer the feel of J necks, but the sound of a PBass. Doesn't stop me really wanting a Vintera 50s PBass with a really wide neck though!
  20. Hang on a minute.......last time you favoured a Jazz over your Precisions.....wasn't that just before Corona kicked off?? Don't risk anything else bad happening, just stick to the Precision!!!! In answer to your question though....I don't really stick to one type of bass and like to have a few different flavours to play around with.
  21. The Unsane show will be a first for me too. There's a few full concerts on YouTube, if they're anything to go by then I'm in for a good night! I've lost count (and probably the ability to hear several frequencies) of the amount of times I've seen Part Chimp. They're brutal live
  22. When I read the New York hardcore part of your sentence, I thought we were going to the see the same band. I've got Unsane coming up in October and then in November I'm going to see Part Chimp. Can't wait for both of those!!
  23. If you're in London and can get to Enfield then it might be worth dropping in to Fender Fever. They have loads of MIJ reissues, including ones that are pretty similar to the ones you're after ..... https://www.fenderfever.com/bass They're a bit more spenny, but you might be able to haggle him down a bit.
  24. Beat me to it! Although the US models normally have spiral saddles at the bridge on the 62 reissue. It doesn't look like this one does, but I have seen them with regular saddles before so nothing to worry about. I think the 62 is a non export US model with US spec pups in it, so that'd be my choice for you seeing as you prefer rosewood. I prefer the 57 on looks alone, so I'd buy that and change the pups/guts if needed if it were me. Can you buy both and send the one you don't like back? * I'm doing this on my phone and pasted this link in by mistake. I now can't remove it from my post, sorry! 😆
