  1. I had a VM Jag PJ - black with a rosewood board and blocks with a J neck. It was a really nice bass. I picked it up thinking I'd mod it, but I didn't need to change a thing on it, the Duncan designed pups were great. They can be picked up pretty cheap nowadays too.
  2. It's not every day you see these and then 2 come along at once..... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/155391213178 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144925849912 I really like these, my dad had a 70s Ibanez copy of the guitar version and I've got a bit of a soft spot for one. Pretty cool!
  3. Looks cool with that scratch plate and knobs on it too
  4. I go through the effects return and bypass my amps pre. Both my bands have pretty different sounds, so I use a rusty box for the noisy originals band and a tech 21 vt for the blues covers band.
  5. No matter the colour it's a really great looking bass! I loved TI flats on my SG, but had to take them off when we got keys for the band. I'm tempted to whack them back on again now though
  6. Really cool new bass!! There's quite a variation in the colour across the pics and it looks a lot more orangey in your shots. In my head the shot of the rear control cavity is closer to what it looks like in real life?
  7. Starting off with a simplified version of the song is definitely good advice as you don't know if a song will work until you give it a go. I then start to pad it out if it's a song that sticks around and I haven't 'wasted' time learning the intricacies of a song I'll never play. Fully agree with @Lozz196's advice about highlighting it with the rest of the band too. It takes the mick if this is a persistent thing and you spend loads of time on something only for people to write it off without any prior discussion.
  8. We put it down to a vote for adding new tunes into the set. There's 5 of us in the band, we each put 5 suggestions into the hat and everyone gets 5 votes on what to add in (you can't vote for your own songs). The tunes with the most votes get worked on. There's normally a bit of a preamble before hand on the sort of song we want in the set....eg - slow/fast one, something to shake your money maker to etc, so that generally informs what sort of song gets added to the list
  9. There's an even cheaper Jaco clone for 86 quid on bax as well. They used to make an unlined stingray for just over 100 and that was really tempting
  10. You'll be safe enough going through the effects return and bypassing the pre in your terror. I have a quilter 800 and do the very same with 2 different pre amp pedals for different bands.
  11. Just nipped down a YouTube rabbit hole looking for the hoax cover of 'I've got a mind to give up living' - which is ace itself and has a bit of a Nawlins funeral procession swing to it, when I came across this........ Never knew they covered it, so it's new to me. Just solidifies for me why Peter Green is the best British guitarist imo. No one comes close to the level of feel and emotion he puts into his playing. Wonderful stuff.
  12. He's touring this year....... https://www.ticketmaster.co.uk/the-kenny-wayne-shepherd-band-tickets/artist/1920920 Love the Hoax too. I'm not 100% sold on Beaux Gris Gris and the Apocolypse, but some of their tunes are decent.
  13. I did one in one out for a while just as a self imposed rule........I ended up regretting a sale though so now it's one in then, maybe 6 months later once I'm fully on board with the new bass, it's potentially one out if I need it. I've also decided to put my basses on wall hangers as that sets a limit on how many I can have 😁
  14. It's a shame the Squier has already been sold. I would have very generously offered the option of you keeping it and selling the SB1 to me 😃 The LB100 looks ace and I'm sure it plays like a dream too!
  15. Those sites were my first port of call too, I've tried to find pics of the original LP to see if there's any mention of personnel but it doesn't look like anyone is listed there either. I've just seen this site.... https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/steve-cropper-pops-staples-albert-king/jammed-together/ One person there mentions Jackson on drums but drops Isaac Hayes as keys. Can't say I know either of them well enough to say it sounds like one over the other tbf. No mentions of a bass player, but it could well be Dunn - good shout!
  16. I've only just come across this and thought I'd break the mould a bit by posting a full album........ Albert King, Steve Cropper and Pop Staples jamming out some ace tunes. What's not to love about this? Really excellent work on bass and drums too. I can't find any info on the other musicians on the LP, so if anyone knows then I'd love to hear who's doing what!
  17. Or I could change my playing technique to incorporate one of these.....
  18. But think of the poses you could pull and how it'd go with a spandex catsuit!
  19. And who said Gibson don't know what they're doing when it comes to basses?!? That little gadget is exactly what I need and I'm surprised Fender don't make an equivalent, especially seeing as they removed the mute from under the bridge cover. I'll see if I can find someone who does metal work and see what they'll charge for knocking something like this up. It might be pretty expensive though and the lollipop route might come out the winner!
  20. But I kinda like it. Not sure if I've seen one of these out in the wild before either...... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134403422453?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=xNXIRMiCTFW&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=0ko1DpFWSW-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  21. That would be a great idea. If they could be placed under the body so they were invisible it'd be pretty cool!
  22. I tried leaving it longer and having the foam outside from under the cover, but that mutes a little too much for my liking. Cutting a ramp in could work though. I'd be worried about my clumsy hands ripping it off, but will give it a whirl
  23. Is it the Jaguar mute you're thinking of? It's spring loaded, but requires quite a sizeable hole in the middle for the spring and won't fit under the cover. Not sure I'm adventurous enough to drill a hole that big in my bass! I was supposed to chuck the pic of it here, but my phone put it at the end of the reply...... Ahhh, I suppose a bit of wood would look better than a bit of string. You could be on to something. Have you experimented with different lollies? Any idea if a Fab would sound different compared to a Twister or Feast? You joke, but this was considered so I could have a PBass with flats/foam and another with rounds 😂
  24. These really are superb basses with lovely necks. If this was the model with the maple neck I'd be tempted. On the plus side, if it doesn't sell you get to keep a hold of a fantastic PBass!!
  25. Yup, it's another how is it best to mute thread.......but slightly different! I have a PBass with a bridge cover and have been messing around with how to best use a mute with it. I've found just cutting a few slits in a bit of sponge and placing them over the top of the strings works best for me. However, the best tone to my ears is when I shove the sponge right unde the bridge cover. This has just enough of a muting effect and also has the bonus of hiding a bit of sponge under the cover. Great! What's not so great is that if I wanted to remove the mute for a song it's a bit fiddly to get the sponge out inbetween songs. Does anyone know of any device that is essentially a mute that fits under a PBass cover and has a quick release? As a bodge I could attach some string to the sponge so that I can easily pull it out, but I was wondering if there was a proper way of doing things.
