  1. You can almost hear the 60s just by looking at it - lovely stuff. I also like that you're using your Hartke as a stand for the boiler ๐Ÿ˜‚
  2. Nice! You're now an owner of what is officially the coolest looking bass or guitar on the planet! You've summed them up pretty perfectly when you say they're fun and easy to play, I go through phases of thinking about selling mine, then pick it up and instantly change my mind. They're just so light and easy to get around. Add that fuzz in there too, it's almost like they're designed to be played dirty.
  3. I haven't got one yet and I've just had loads on that puts me in 2 minds about learning - I have a new baby on the way in a couple of weeks, so won't have that much time for and I'm also wondering if it's better to just spend more time playing the bass rather than learning a new instrument. Then I think learning the piano will make me a better musician, so I start looking again. The Recital Pro I was looking at was sold by the time I was back from my break and I've been out bid on a couple of Yamaha P45's recently. I think the Yammy is the way to go though so I'm still keeping an eye out.
  4. Or, if a pastel green is fun enough then the Ibanez Talman is an option..... https://www.andertons.co.uk/ibanez-tmb30-mgr-4-string-bass-guitar-in-mint-green
  5. Ashdown Capri..... https://ashdownmusic.com/products/roasted-capri As well as the Bronco, Squier released a Jag in pink that might come up 2nd hand. It's medium scale at 32" though, if that's any good? If purple is an option, there's also this Bronco..... https://www.fender.com/en-GB/squier-electric-basses/other/limited-edition-squier-sonic-bronco-bass/0373803517.html
  6. Here's a brunswick blue 335..... https://www.gibson.com/en-GB/Electric-Guitar/CUS18827/Brunswick-Blue And a purple sparkle 335..... https://guitarscigars.net/2022/03/11/gibson-64-es-335-purple-sparkle/ Both look pretty great. Oh dear....
  7. A purple sparkle thunderbird........? I'm off to sit in a dark room and repeat 'I don't need another bass' for a few hours. Maybe it'll work.
  8. Steve Albini wears his guitar like that - the proper way to wear it according to the man himself ๐Ÿ˜ƒ I think he just uses a long strap and wraps it around himself, so you could always give that a go to see how you get on with it?
  9. Drummers, eh? I think as long as the whole band have a chat together and agree on a catchment area for gigs then he likely won't bugger off again. If there are other options though I'd base it on personality and who I'd rather hang out with over actual ability, unless this bloke is noticeably better than everyone.
  10. If he's a good drummer and everyone gets on with him then I'd probably have him back. It kinda depends a bit around his initial decision to quit too. He's admitted he made a mistake, but was there any specific reason he left in the first place? If there was and it's still an issue (eg. Doesn't like the set, too many/not enough gigs, doesn't get on with everyone) then he'll likely end up leaving again unless something changes. Life's too short to be holding grudges though, so I wouldn't say no just because he left once. If you don't have him back, what are your other options? That's another one to think about.
  11. You're not wrong, mine is a J neck too and it's lovely. Enjoy your new toy, it looks great and I'm sure it plays even better!
  12. Lovely stuff, have to love a pink P bass - it looks great with the anodized guard too. Did you go with a chunkier 50s neck?
  13. I enjoy solo's and technical playing, I just tend not to enjoy them if that's all there is to a song. A lot of solo songs I just find boring, lacking melody and a bit pretentious - albeit I can listen in awe and appreciate the skill and talent that goes into composing and playing the piece. On the flip side, I completely agree about root notes too, there's a place for it every now and again, but it can be dull to listen to. Adam Clayton is a prime example of this for me. I've heard people say that his bass lines drive U2 songs, but they're just boring to me.
  14. It sounds like I'm the same as a lot of comments here. It's not that I don't get certain players it's more that I don't enjoy soloing virtuosic music, and that can be said for any instrument, not just bass. I'd rather listen to a song I like that has 7 notes played tastefully and contributes to the song, rather than a 4 minute solo piece that I just don't connect with.
  15. Looking at the darker side of humour and a bit of punk...... TSOL - Code blue, for a tune about necrophilia DI - Richard hung himself. Slayer also covered it, but I prefer this Angry Samoans - They saved Hitlers cock
  16. The Reverend has loads of great tunes with funny lyrics, he's a great guitarist too. This is my fave.......
  17. Witch's Egg from the film Forbidden Zone....has a great vid too Cool in the Pool - Holger Czukay (from Can) Bombay Duck - Rick Wakeman. Sounds like a clown soundtrack if the clown has done lots of acid
  18. I like the Ernie Ball jacquard straps, they're extra long and come in some cool designs. The one on the Ric also goes on a sunburst jazz.
  19. This is mostly me........I've got one bass that I have to use for one band I'm in because we play in drop C and then the others I rotate. I do have a couple of favourites for the other band, but try to rotate and give everything a bit of love. Although I have to admit that there's one bass I don't use much that I'm finding hard to sell at the mo. It's fun to play, but doesn't cut through so well with us having keys in the band. Every time I think about selling it, I pick it up and fall in love with it again. Then there's another that's hard to come by on these shores and I think if I sell it and want it back, it'd be hard to replace. That's what I tell myself to stop me selling them anyway ๐Ÿ˜‚
  20. Noise rock. This could be 3 Shellac tunes, but I'll try my best to suggest others..... Shellac - Song of the minerals Unsane - Sick Jesus Lizard - Then comes Dudley
  21. Here's a nice story...... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-68440336 TL:DR - a band records a single in the 80s, but it doesn't chart and they disband. Fast forward to 2022, a DJ picks it up in a 2nd hand shop. Plays it in clubs that specialise in 80s music in LA & Paris, a record exec hears it and the band have just been signed. Maybe a record company will find my old bands MySpace page in 30 years time and I'll embark on a world tour......
  22. Ohhhhhhhhh, now that you mention it, I can't unsee it. Yours is loads better. You've ruined a perfectly good bass for me. My wallet is happy though ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
  23. That green is lovely and very tempting if it were a bit cheaper.....in a couple of years when they hit the 2nd hand market I'd like to get my mitts on one.
  24. Yes, but are we still in them? How many have broken up without us knowing!???
  25. Have to love Timmy C! https://www.google.com/amp/s/consequence.net/2024/02/tim-commerford-rage-against-the-machines-breakup/amp/
