  1. ..Assume you're referring to Reign in blood ? 🤘
  2. Yeah always digital luggage scales here too. Also use these to weigh baby / dog ..
  3. It's just the author's pick of 100 at that time. BC is a great resource for discovering new bassists and I guess if lists like this help unearth some new players you wouldn’t otherwise have discovered, they’re not all bad. Would be impossible to say X bassist should be on the list, with Y excluded though.
  4. I mean, Teal is great but it's no Laguna Seca. And Black at 98 - seriously?
  5. Ranking the 100 Best bass players is as credible as ranking the 100 Best colours.
  6. Vulfpeck and Joe Dart. Vulfpeck are fun. Joe a fantastic bassist that has penned one of the iconic lines of recent years - but there’s an extraordinary amount of hype around him that eclipses his output. In fairness - it’s hype he hasn’t asked for nor stoked - but there’s something very premature about the pedestal he’s been put on by certain folk and media.
  7. Totally agree , and there’s some interesting stuff highlighted on this thread already. Found some old cassettes the other day, lots of John Peel shows - which were always a great source of new and underrated / undiscovered music. It wasn’t around in his time - but 6Music has done a good job in filling some of the gaps he left - some great new stuff / and old stuff you wouldn’t otherwise have stumbled across.
  8. Not into The Shadows at all but enjoyed this repeat last week on R4 ‘The Thing About Hank’ available on the Sounds app Knopfler & Jimmy Page interviewed, amongst others. Great listen.
  9. Isn’t Jools Holland already contemporary acts live? Ok unfortunately sometimes with added boogie woogie piano. OGWT copped a lot of flak for its mix of bands. Much in retrospect is great to have been captured (Steelers Wheel, Allman Brothers etc) but at the time didn’t go down well. It’s likely in decades to come many of these Jools show performances are looked back on as cherished live versions.
  10. Funny just came onto BC to search SessionCake for reviews.. I need a headphone amp and have broken numerous of those Vox units over the years.. then found this thread with the Kennys offer and subsequent feeding frenzy . In the unlikely event anyone on BC who wants one doesn't have one yet, they're £19.99 on ebay with free postage
  11. A new Wal arriving is such a rare sight it feels a bit like when someone’s had a baby Congratulations on your new arrival , she’s beautiful
  12. Oddly - Sunburst w/ Ebony fretboard is Alder. They’ve matched Alder-Ebony, and Ash-Maple across the range suggesting some tonal pairing but assume it’s just commercially led / marketing guff. Great basses, and as @Cato says, will sound identical - woods largely irrelevant (and Sire weights inconsistent) so just go with what you like the look of. Got one a few months back and really enjoying it.
  13. No alas not possible. You can’t collaborate in real time online.
  14. Given the general love of all things vintage here (basses and music) it's probably the right message for BC..
  15. Some good news https://www.notreble.com/buzz/2020/04/20/juan-alderete-recovery-update/
  16. Thanks @MNY for reviving this, I missed it first time round. Beautiful solo
  17. If anyone is interested in paying some remote respects, Thomas Dolby is hosting a candlelight vigil 8pm tonight. He's also set up a charity page to help his family. https://thomasdolby.fanbridge.com/campaigns/show.php?id=1550201&sid
  18. Very sad news. Loved his playing with Dolby - his version of I Scare Myself remains one of my favourite tunes to this day.. beautiful fretless playing.
  19. I've had some fun on stage in the past but never that much 😂🍆
  20. Great bass tone can transform music you'd otherwise choke on. Pino on Paul Young. Black Velvet (albeit synth). Blur - Girls & Boys. Lots of Mrs Drax's music..
  21. Definitely worth the thread revival for those pics 😎
  22. They do both. I’d linked above to the P but we bought a J..
  23. Had my 9yr old play a Jack & Danny mini bass , worth a look , £90 - fantastic quality for the money and a lot of fun (for you too).
  24. Loads / majority of 5’s will be 18-19mm, Ibanez and Warwick generally the big brand exceptions. Echoing @OliverBlackman you can’t go far wrong with the more premium Sires. Quest for a ‘higher quality bass’ is hugely subjective. BassDirect are good at listing string spacing, would start there and see what you might like.
  25. That’s it. Lefty loosey, Righty tighty. Don’t fear the truss rod. The coated Elixirs are on the less noisy than others but the acoustic zing and clang of new strings will definitely be contributing to the problem and making it sound worse to you ears - especially when not amplified. You won’t be rehearsing or gigging for a long while yet, so it’s worth seeing how the strings bed in over the next few weeks of playing.
