  1. Small venues are in trouble and some need all the help they can get. Two approaches - Collecting for the band on the night (the proverbial passing a hat round) - Pro rata your usual fee there in line with their reduction in capacity. Don’t feel ‘musicians playing for free damages it for other musicians’ stands up right now in the current climate. Everyone needs to do what they can to help eachother.
  2. Ahh woods debate. Normal service is resuming. Isn't the accepted wisdom that whilst under lab conditions there is a difference, once you add all the other variables, studio or live, the ear can't tell. Not seen a conclusive blind test.
  3. No bad options above. Fan of red Sessioncake here, practical and straightforward. Phil Jones Bighead is fantastic kit but probably costs more than the bass.
  4. Great job making that - looks a beauty GLWTS
  5. TBF you can do alot worse than that and remain employed by the catholic church ..
  6. Depends on the piano, and then where you are in the UK. If you're in / near a metropolitan city you might find a local shop willing to take it off you, or punt out to gumtree. Further out it can be harder. We had real difficulty getting rid of a lovely Bechstein upright recently from my dad's house on Norfolk coast, couldn't give it away. They're bloody heavy and difficult to move - so transport is the main hurdle. Had one couple thinking they could wheel it home! Whoever collects needs min of tail lift, and ideally piano moving trolley. Best place to start is put some calls into nearest local music shops, they should have good idea of what it's like where you are.
  7. From expensive trial and error - personally found best low B for the mix of good intonation, agreeable ‘tension’ (ie playing flexibility), and tone is LaBella 760FL-B. Like you found Chromes too stiff, and also 760FS the same. Dunlop came a close second to FLs, feel great but not quite the LaBella thump. The .128 B is tapered. Previously not a fan of tapered but it does what it’s meant to - clarity and intonation. String tension/flex is subjective - one man's stiff is another man's floppy (sorry) but the 760FLs (LaBella 'light') had a decently playable B - neither wet noodle of TI's , nor the bridge cable of 760FMs. The articulation on 34 scale, was more in line with the variance between strings you'd expect with good roundwounds . That is - the sound of a fretted F on B string, sounds vs fretted F on E string. With some flats they were miles apart. Whatever you pick, a low B on flats is going to mean a compromise somewhere.
  8. Yeah guess my reply didn't land as intended. Meant it in good nature. Not heard of 28.6inch scale commissioned before so was intrigued why. Plenty of great luthiers out there that can realise your dream, hope you get there one day
  9. One mans dream is another man’s nightmare BC is full of answers to your question. Many many folk have had their dream bass made for them. The problem is dreams change, so you need to get a different bass made a year later. Dare I ask , why 28.6 scale length ?
  10. She’s 5 ! Let her be a 5yr old. Lots of great current pop music she can identify with - way more than the creaking list of old women above - most are older than her nan! Car playlists are good way to mix her music and yours. My 8yr old daughter is a huge fan of Wengie (parents will know) but from long car journeys found some surprising gems she enjoys - Thundercat and the Prodigy. Sgt Pepper and Thriller have also gone down well with all my kids.

It's a credit to general ecosystem of Basschat - that it is broadly devoid of trolls and troll-like behaviour. Sadly unique in today's world, but does make a thread like this jump out.

Remember him accusing the buyer of not playing the bass with a pick ‘like a real man’

Yeah quite possibly. Recall there was a big gap between the buyer and luthier’s view of what was wrong

Totally. Jimmy’s response was funny, all still there. NitroGlossGate here had same hallmarks - petty complaint, outraged mob, etc. Until we get some new content on Netflix expect the lockdown mania to continue
  15. Yeah we're on the same side here. Streaming royalties are crap - artists should get more. One of the many paradoxes we have in life today. I view that avoiding streaming doesn't help the artist, but buying their record does. Listen to the vinyl / CD at home - and feel relatively comfortable listening on Spotify when out. This is all the more important for emerging artists. Sorry for thread derail - conscious it's ground we've covered before. 🤘
  16. Had fault with a Harley Benton PJ5 - rear pup didn't work - as @Silvia Bluejay mentions, put a call in. Service was excellent. They arranged collection and sent replacement, covered all shipping. Very happy with treatment given 108 euro bass.
  17. Yeah that is true, I get that. There's a whole mountain of great undiscovered stuff though. And re OP - everything the Beatles recorded
  18. Absolutely. Used that a lot BC when work meant commuting by tube..
  19. Surprised to hear BCers still downloading music files to their phones. Assumed the opportunity to have so much at your fingertips on Spotify / streamed would be where most were at ..
  20. Ha fair enough. Meant nothing personal by it btw - just sad to hear anyone thinking like that
  21. Loving the leather strides
  22. Nice bass! Not often you see different colour pickups. Do Lakland pick up the cost of repair?
  23. Overwater Scott Devine J bass has a reduced body, and 33 scale. Not cheap though.
