  1. It's directly proportional to the weight of the rig...
  2. Sir Norman is the boss. He'd sound good playing a Satellite bass through a practice amp
  3. It's played with a pick - you can tell by the attack. It's so heavily processed it isn't possible to hear what's going on. Sounds like a Gibson type of bass - humbuckers. Other than that, dunno.
  4. Clever, compressed to death machine music. No doubt he'll do well making commercial jingles
  5. I tried the combo a few weeks back and liked it. Didn't buy as decided to get a lightweight cab and use with my existing head. A combo isn't as flexible as a separate amp and cab and if, as you suggest, you may need more power at a later date, I'd suggest the LM3 (which is being sold at a good price at present) the way to go. You don't need to use MB cabs of course. Perhaps look at a decent used cab or two?
  6. Gotoh are reliable and not expensive.
  7. And I thought mine was battered... Has wiring been replaced?
  8. Sorry to be a pain, but what's the depth in old money/inches? No ruler to hand. Whereabouts in Essex are you? Thanks.

I'd agree with Stevie. I went shopping for a compact combo and compared the GK MB112 with the Markbass 112 combo. MB was well ahead in terms of tone and clarity and went louder without struggling. Approaching twice the price, so ought to have been, mind. In the end, I bought neither. Bought a Phil Jones C4 Piranha cab to use with my existing head for small jobs - found it out-performed both.
  10. My 72 J (see my picture). Had it 34 years and it was the only thing that stood between me and not eating for some while.
  11. Ditch the Rotosound rounds? Not nice sounding strings imho. Clanky and harsh.
  12. Early ss amps used large amounts of negative feedback to give acceptable distortion results. That was reckoned to give them their flat lifeless weak sound.
  13. I'd leave the credit and debit cards at home and go to a well stocked shop and spend a few hours playing with the toys there. I did that recently and ended up buying kit I didn't expect to own and which I wouldn't have chosen on the basis of what I've read or heard others say.
  14. Al Capone. Oh, sorry. That's Prince Buster.
  15. For DB and Tecamp money, how about a Phil Jones head? Two channels, too
  16. Not sure about the cab. Head decent. I'd look at used, as others suggest.
  17. Not strictly accurate to talk of car stuff not being able to be used because it's only designed to run on 12v. With the exception of hardwired valve amps (which can have internal supply rails running at 500v dc - that's why you don't poke around inside them), solid state circuitry runs at very small voltages. The mains current is stepped right down. PCBs wouldn't tolerate mains voltages.
  18. All the talk of "tribute" bands increasing sales of CDs by, or boosting interest in the actual artists, is bollocks, I'm afraid. More power to the artists who sue, I say.
  19. As others suggest, people such as OBBM and Designacable are good. They use quality components (but not silly money stuff) and charge a fair price. I'd beware of being persuaded to spend grilions on jewellery cables. The hifi world has gone mad in recent years over snake oil cables, solid gold plugs and the like. They offer minimal benefit at best (and certainly do not justify the prices charged).
  20. 2x900w into 8 ohms? Not likely. Get the ratings from the Crown website.
  21. I'd suggest you don't need a separate engineer for pub/bar jobs. I play bass and engineer (and we get plenty of compliments for the sound) for my band. Good kit helps (I use a Fohhn PA, which is powerful and portable and set up in 20 mins).
  22. Agree with comments about correcting posture. Alexander very worthwhile.
  23. D'Addario Chromes on my Jazz. Sound great.
  24. Imitation and flattery are all very well, but people have a living to make. Even if you don't like ML (and I don't), he's entitled to say it's his image, his songs are his intellectual property and that people out there making good money out of them should pay him for the privilege.
  25. I have a pair I wear when I'm fishing at night. Great for baiting up, tying hooks, etc.
